That original 000-45 1939 Joe has is incredible. Old wood is unbeatable.

A 45 style Martin is my dream guitar. Particularly an aged toner top OM 45. I love the extra volume and bottom end of the OM scale length. But the closest dream guitar if I could ever scrape up the money would be an OM-42.

My favorite part of the video was when Joe said “we didn’t want to make it too expensive…” I was like bro, $20k is too expensive for 99.9% of people.
@aaronshortmusicАй бұрын
All these things are relative. I actually thought this was going to be $30,000+ when I heard about it.
@jerb6817Ай бұрын
@ yeah, I guess it could have been more expensive but I was thinking more like $10-12k when I saw the announcement. I guess Martin is really trying to push Guatemalan Rosewood as the heir the Brazilian Rosewood legacy but, in my opinion, they haven’t really established why it should be viewed that way. Brazilian Rosewood has been rare and only getting rarer since the 80s-90s. I’ve only recently heard of Guatemalan Rosewood and I don’t see how it can be THAT scarce of a wood. There is no way it should be worth all that much more than something like Cocobolo or Ziricote. Granted, I am not in the tonewood acquisition world so my opinion is not worth much but I don’t see much convincing me that Guatemalan Rosewood should be seen as so valuable.
@aaronshortmusicАй бұрын
@ I heard that it is getting just as rare. It’s all about availability and Martin need larger quantities than boutique builders.
@BillNealeGuitarАй бұрын
Hi Aaron, hope you’re doing well. My view is if they are going to re-create it, do it with the same materials (Brazilian) or it’s not a true re-creation. If the buyer can afford $20k, they most likely can afford $30k. I’m sure we agree that this type of guitar is a collector’s piece , not a gigging instrument. Just my take. Thanks, Bill Neale🎶
@aaronshortmusicАй бұрын
I agree but that may have pushed it up to $35k and I wonder if it would still sell at that price. Maybe!
@SlinkyT82Ай бұрын
You could buy a vintage late 40's Martin for that price. wowza.
@jaepark8922Ай бұрын
Hi Aaron, I think it’s great Martin recreates these and this one in particular is interesting in that there is no need to “age” it. They added a truss rod though so not like their D authentics without a truss rod. Funny to hear Joe say the original wasn’t opened up and he wasn’t going to play a pick with it to open it up. It seems the recreation with vts sounds better to him. As we discussed he should try a Tone Traveler lol😅.
@aaronshortmusicАй бұрын
All Martins have a truss rod but they only had adjustable truss rods since 1985.
@jaepark8922Ай бұрын
@ I see, thanks for that clarification. Most reviews don’t seem to make that clear.
@aaronshortmusicАй бұрын
@@jaepark8922 Yes there is a lot of confusion around that. All guitars need a truss rod. If it is set correctly then it does not need to be adjustable but of course that does not always happen so they are useful.

Cool guitar, great backstory. I'll bet it's incredible. But not priced for mere mortals.

I’m not sure about a backstory of a guitar that’s rarely been played.

I think its more important for companies like Martin to produce new models, to attract new young players to use them. Because the best of those young players will eventually be the"greats of the 2020's". Companies maybe need to look at using more sustainable woods, maybe using some carbon fibre, some plastics, to create whatever might appeal to new, young players. Maybe to include some electronics that interface directly to a computer, to enable super simple recording, without needing a soundproof environment. Consider the new Yamahas with a built in looper. Certainly not my choice of guitar, but maybe it will be for some young person whose vision of what an acoustic guitar can do differs markedly from my own. Im getting bored with companies constantly regurgitating their old designs, and living off past glories and endless numbers of limited editions. But I play guitars, I dont collect them...
@aaronshortmusicАй бұрын
I agree but Martin and Fender are covering all bases which I appreciate. They still make the legacy models but also have modern instruments as well and are even starting to get into digital. I do wish they would push the envelope even further though!
@RobinDaelman28 күн бұрын
@@aaronshortmusic Well, I do not agree on this. If you look for electronics, carbon fibre, plastics..., you can find other brands that will support your desires. Martin is known for their pure acoustic craftsmanship. I also like my acoustic piano and I would never purchase a synthesiser that you can directly plug into your computer and manipulate the sound etc.
@aaronshortmusic28 күн бұрын
@@RobinDaelman Yes but they can do both and all companies have to look to the future to stay relevant going forward. I’m sure a lot more digital pianos are sold than regular ones these days.

I’m glad you said that for reasons you will find out later but I’m not sure. It’s hard to know once the guitar is assembled and it becomes a sum of its parts..
@flyonwall360Ай бұрын
Well, I have noticed that when strumming heavy on an Adirondack top, it stays tight and doesn't muddy up like Sitka does. However, I grew up in the same area as Joe, in fact, we both took lessons from Carmin Carmonica. Growing up in the Utica/Rome area meant spending time in the Adirondack Mountains. The Adirondacks hold a special place in our hearts.

Another Chris Martin IV schlock $20,000 Martin . If you want to pay $20,000 for Martin get a real one that was made by The craftsman that made Martin guitars great. VTS gimmick added to non Brazilian rosewood makes this not anything close to what they made 80 years ago. Buy a Martin from then, then you have something special.
@aaronshortmusicАй бұрын
This guitar from that time would be hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Unsolicited suggestions for show content.... Someone did a blind test, conducted under scientific conditions, with famous old violins like the Stradivarius and new violins among professional violinists and concert hall audience members and surprise, they preferred the sound of new violins or could not tell the difference. You should do a similar test with old Martins and old Les Pauls. kzbin.infoGgsqvthM8CI

I have certainly played a lot of old and also new high end guitars that didn’t wow me. A lot of the time we pay for brands and exclusivity. Cool idea though!
