The first one chewed it because it was stressed in the box 😭 and it's sad because most of those cages are so small, same with their wheels 😭. The fact that people can actually be fine with there hamsters in TINY cages is sad. LIKE HOW WOULD U LIKE IT IF U WERE TRAPPED IN A TINY ENVIRONMENT WITH NOTHING TO DO?! sorry I get angry seeing some of these 🤣

hi! I was hoping if I could get some help/tips. 2 years ago I made an accidental mistake of buying a small hamster cage. Once I figured out that I wasn’t giving my hamster his (It’s a he!) proper needs I asked my parents if I could buy a bin cage. My parents said my hamster doesnt need a 12 inch wheel, (my hamser is a syrian/teddy bear) bin cage, etc because hamsters are small pets so they don’t need much things. Right now I’m stuck with my old hamster cage from 2 years ago and whenever I try to bring up a topic about a bin cage my parents ignore me, say no, etc. If my parents actually care or look I show them some bin cages and my parents say “It’s ugly” or etc. I also don’t have much room in my house for a larger house for my hamster (the tank houses I think) so the only larger and suitable cage I can afford is the bin cage. My mom says she is an expert in hamsters although she only fed her hamsters sunflower seeds, place them in the same cage together (hamsters are solitary animals!) the cage is small, and used NO bedding at all! BTW I have some of my hamsters needs like providing seed mixes, vegetables, fruits, hamster friendly bedding (I got the aspen bedding). Although I’m still missing a proper sized wheel, hamster friendly sand, a bigger cage, and some hamster toys because the cage is so small none of the those objects can’t even fit! Every now and then I try to ask my parents for a bin cage but they say no, ignore me, or make up excuses. What do I do? Thank you ❤❤

That sounds really frustrating for you! You are completely correct! Instead of making an 'ugly' bin cage, you could look for a 'better looking' second hand enclosures online, on eBay, gumtree, or Facebook market place! You might be able to find a good cage/tank that is big enough! 11 inch wheels are big enough for most Syrians, and they are more common/cheaper than 12 inch wheels! You will be able to find these online on Amazon! It has lasted me over 5 months in Pancake's massive cage! For sand, a cheaper option would be to get some colour and calcium free children's play sand, then bake it to disinfect it and sift it to get rid of any lumps! Children's play sand is good, because it comes in large amounts and will last a long time! For enrichment, you could make your own foraging toys! I have made a play list called 'Hamster DIYs' that may help with ideas! If possible, maybe check out your local pet store for forage mixes, sprays, hideouts, and other toys, as this will help enrich their environment! My 40 gallon cage has 2 stories and the top one came with wire as the bottom so I put in a thin fleece liner thing when he goes to the 2nd floor so he doesn’t get hurt. I heard you mention fabric is dangerous..is that okay?

If the hamster isn't chewing on it, then it should be ok, but you will need to remove it if they do start to chewing on it 🐹💕
