Honestly it’s so dope to see someone who admittedly has had Mariah as their #1 greatest vocalist of all time and then be open and able to move/bend & recognize Whitney’s unique talent and abilities and change their judgement. WELCOME! lol to the Whitney club 😂 Na but seriously both ladies are INCREDIBLY talented and skilled but Whitney just does it for me when I think about a well rounded singer. The tone, runs, riffs, personality, stage presence, crowd interaction, phrasing, ability to sing a song and turn it into her own each time, belting, did I mention TONE 😍 and everything else is not only good but it’s GREAT. All of it. I’ve yet to see a singer possess so many qualities and ALL of them be superior and just different than the rest. It totally blew my mind in 2012 when she passed and still does to this day August 9th (Her Bday 😍❤️) 2020. #Whitneystan4L

Yay you reacted to this for me!! Thank you so much. She is just eating through these massive songs like they were nothing. Tone, diction, melisma, pitch, lower register, growls, chest belts and head voice-all on point. During this time she was extremely happy, she had her baby, her husband, her career was at an all time high-and her voice was still in its prime. Again I must say, she used her instrument far superior. Happy birthday Ms Whitney aka The Voice.

Alexis Samone See? I told you. Whitney is just phenomenal. I Loves You Porgy is from a 1935 opera written by George Gershwin. It’s a beautiful song and it has been sung by so many legendary ladies. Whitney in typical Whitney style took it to a whole different level. Now you must react to her singing I Am Changing (San Francisco ) again it just and audio but it will blow you away. Her upper register and head voice will literally take you breath away. Even if you don’t react to it just listen to it. As a singer you will find it astonishing. Here’s the scary part, in her early career, there were so many live performances that were not recorded that people who attended the concerts were left speechless. I’m so glad to have found you. Plus I love your voice and your vibrant personality. Looking forward to more videos of you singing and more reactions. Here’s the link! kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKe6laGfotaam6M

Whitney is the greatest. She always came with what she came with LIVE! No fakery and trickery. She wasn't there to be cute (cause she was always a beauty) or to rely on the background singers or backtracks. She would play around with the arrangements of her songs live...notice so many of the others magically could/would not.
@thenandnowfilmlocations98624 жыл бұрын
Whitney was freaking amazing. She always performed her songs better live then the studio version. Not many can do that. At lot of people actually think this was Whitney first time performing this melody. She also performed this melody at radio city music hall in July of 1993. That was Performance is on KZbin as well and is a just as amazing as this one if not better.

I agree with just about everything EXCEPT the comments about hand movements. Whitney uses her hands for two reasons 1) Whitney is a storyteller and 2) Whitney is a musical director. Those hand movements are mostly for her band to see where she's going. Notice those accents on certain words made by the band are 100% cued by Whitney's movements. Whitney's voice can't be tamed. And when she decides she wants to take her vocals somewhere else she "signals" her band. It's so musical and most people don't even recognize it. Mariah on the other hand. Like you said, her hand movements help her to visualize the notes. It's almost a crutch. And at this point in her career, I'm surprised she still does it.
@AlexisSamone4 жыл бұрын
NIKO THOMAS oooh I can totally agree with that!! I started catching that. Especially when she sings “and I’m telling you”. She controls the movement of the band and that’s how every artist should be when performing

Your comment is on point! At the beginning of her career I thought that she did a lot of mannerisms, but when I take my time to look her live videos, I noticed that she was moving her hand to communicate with her bands! That's fantastic! I always say that: Whitney didn't sing, she was delivering, she was telling a story!

I've always had Whitney nr. 1 and Mariah number 3. Whitney's tone, her master interpretation skills, emotive ability, her head voice and her amazing live performance sets her apart for me. But how lucky to have lived in the same time as both!
@Qu33n2 жыл бұрын
I have been binging on this performance of hers for the past 2 hours. Her rendition of "I Loves You, Porgy"...I have been obsessing over it! It's an out-worldly take from her that is sooo captivating! Like everything about it is enchanting! I didn't realize before just how much she performs non-vocally until I saw this performance. Her hand movements and eye motions are such a part of her lyric-telling as she sings. It's so subtle yet nuanced. Whitney won't move that much on stage (choreography-wise) but she didn't have to. Because vocally she encompassed so much space that she could literally stand in place. Yet she stood in place and still "moved" in a sense by how well her cues were with the music. There's a part of the song (i think you might've just stopped and restarted it and didn't catch it in your reaction) where she runs her hands down the front of her body + closes her eyes and then reopens them as the song takes a little climax as she sings the lyric "deep inside me" and it's all so perfectly done!! She's so sensual and appealing as she sings this song without even doing much. She reads the music, she reads the camera(s) and she reads the audience. The way she interacts with every piece of animate and inanimate object in that arena. Her jazzified version of this song (I'm not really sure if it's considered a classical song as Mrs. Nina Simone I believe originally performed it) put me in a trance!

Alexis, I have seen your reaction to this legendary live performance before, but not sure if I ever commented. So I will do so now. First up, let me say I enjoy your reactions to Whitney's live performances, mostly because, apart from your hilarious facial expressions when Whitney executes her vocal gymnastics, you break down the technical aspects of Whitney's vocal genuis. I totally agree that because she lives so much in her higher range, she never sounds like she is struggling whenever she hits those high notes. I also agree that Whitney's ability to change her recordings on live performances is unmatched. And this again places her in a different class!! I have commented numerous times on KZbin on Whitney's performances, highlighting her amazing and unmatched vocal prowess, but let me say that her stage presence, ability to connect to an audience, control of her instrument (voice) and emotive ability is special. She really continues to amaze me, no matter how many times I listen to her songs, (and believe me, it is a lot) whether live or on recordings. Indeed, I can listen to her music for hours and I am never bored, and this says a lot about the incredible quality of her as an incredible singer/ performer extraordinaire , never to be equalled!! I daresay also that her tone is unmatched and her head voice, well, is the absolute best in the business across eras and musical forms. The truth is, she had the total package and is blessed. Not many of us can say the same. I can go on and on, but suffice it to say that she is the G.O.A.T. I am sorry that you were forced to change your number 1 vocalist, but there is no question that Whitney is unmatched when it comes to vocal prowess. And may I add that this performance, as you so accurately puts it, sets her apart from everyone else period. Thanks for your very animated and I interesting reaction. I just want you to know that I eat, drink and sleep Whitney, when it comes to music! This is not to say that I do not listen to other singer's, as there are lot of excellent vocalists,. But I find that Whitney's songs pulls me in like a magnet, like no other. And this is how I know and am convinced that she is the greatest singer that not only lived, but that will ever live. Like one music critic says. I said what I said. Whitney as not only a vocalist, but as a musician, is not ordinary. I would love you to react to Whitney's live performance of" Didn't we almost have it all" at the June 1988 concert at the Wembley Stadium for Nelson Mandella's 60th birthday. She did quite a few songs for over an hour. Good nite.
