The best way to explain Arthas is he is WOW’s Darth Vader, similar story’s, but Arthas is much darker and cunning. Still my favorite character in WOW but got done dirty in Shadowlands

ive allways really loved the discrepancy between what were told and what we see in the trailer, the narrator aka arthas' father talks good about him but what we see is differently, everything his father says arthas twisted it terenas: "on the day you were born the very forrests of lorderon whispered the name 'arthas'!" - the sentence talks about being born yet here arthas is sitting so still for years that ice has formed about his body, he himself looks more like a statue or frozen corpse then a living man (and there are no forrests in view) terenas: "and my child i watched with pride as you grew up into a weapon of righteousness" - yet here arthas is, his armor literally covered in skulls and spikes, wielding an evil death sword and king terenas isnt around to be proud because he was killed by his son terenas: "our line has allways ruled with wisdom and strength" - arthas rules with wisdom and strength however he uses his rule for his own selfish motives because he lacks compassion, also arthas ended not just the king, not just the line of succession that terenas mentioned but he ended the entire country and for a lack of a better word enslaved (close to) the entire population terenas: "and i know you will show restraint when excercising your great power" - shortly before arthas literally ressurects a GIANT dragon just because he can terenas: "but the truest victory, my son is stirring the hearts of your people" - arthas 'people' aka the scourge dont have hearts, and not just figuratively, most oft them have LITERALLY no heart because they are undead, arthas doesnt stirr the hearts of his people he forced them into obedience against their will terenas: "i tell you this for when my days come to an end, you shall be king!" this one is obviously twisted aswell as terenas said it under the impression that he will die of age or maybe at the hands of an enemy... not at the hands of his son this is probably the reason why this trailer is so memorable, when what we see reflects exactly what were told we dont have to engage both senses we only need to listen OR watch, however when there is a noticeable difference or more likely direct opposition we cant focus on just one sense so we are more focused meaning the memory is more intense, this is also the reason why the cataclysm trailer that followed this feels abit lackluster, quality wise the trailer is just as good, however what we see and what were told is the exact same thing "i am deathwing, i am the earth, the earth feels my pain, bla bla bla fire and doom for all of you bla bla bla"

"Is he evil? Or good?" Very very evil... But not really his fault. The second Mal'ganis got him to touch Frostmourne, he became corrupted and a slave to the sword's will. The "bone dragon" as you put it, is Sindragosa, consort of Malegos, Aspect of the Blue Dragonflight. She was one of the most power dragons in Azeroth's history. She is one of the bosses in the Icecrown Citadel raid.

Blizzard's cinematic team has an amazing talent, in so many ways including, giving you the chills. It's definitely not just you. Would highly suggest watching WarCraft's cinematics, though I would suggest getting your community to help with ordering them & helping you understand what isn't explained. WarCraft has been the one consistent for my near entire life. 27 years since I first started playing WarCraft with WarCraft 1. There is.. A lot.. lol If you haven't watched the War Within Trailer, it is a work of art. Even if you don't know the characters, you can still understand them with what you see, especially the minor details. Not to mention, it just shows how amazing their work looks. It is however the latest one so if you want to do them all in order, which I would suggest, this one will be a while off lol

The story about Arthas and his downfall is without a doubt the most tragic story in the gaming industry ever created. Arthas was the prince of Lordaeron and was loved by everyone. From an early age he was trained to become a Paladin, a righteous and holy warrior fighting for the human race. Then came The Scourge threatening the very existence of the world and Arthas decided to save the world by defeating it, no matter the cost. He was forced to make lots of impossible choices, like having to kill everyone in a city that had become cursed by the plague, also known as The Culling of Stratholme. On his path to save the world and everyone he loved Arthas lost himself and later on became the very thing he sought to destroy. This expansion was the peak of World of Warcraft and this cinematic is such a masterpiece when you know the backstory to Arthas. He ends up being the final boss of the expansion. You can hear the king Terenas (his father) distant words how he wanted his son to turn out, which is the complete opposite of what actually happened. "My child, I watched with pride as you grew into a weapon of righteousness" while Arthas unsheathes the corrupted blade Frostmourne, the most evil weapon ever to exist. All he wanted was to save everyone he loved but ended up killing them all instead. Such tragedy.

is he evil or good - that depends on your view i guess. Id say hes the lesser evil. The scourge (undead) may be the only army in the world that can defeat the burning legion (demons) and may even have a chance against the void lords (really evil) but well obviously the scourge is full of the undead and not quite compatible with the living. The scourge is better than being wiped out by the burning legion and its surely better than being plunged into neverending torture and madness of the void, but being undead isnt quite...good either. That said the scourge is ruled by the Lich King who keeps it in check so it doesnt just anihilate all life on the planet.

The cinematic is a massive paradox of good and evil. The words his father left him were meant for him to use it for good but he is using it for evil. He interpreted it in a way his father never imagined he would. If you know the history it would make even more sense.

It is simple. The Lich King is Arthas Menethil, and his father King Terenas Menethil II is narrating, but actually speaking to him. You see, the sword that the Lich King wields is called Frostmourne and with every kill, it sucks the soul out of the person killed. Arthas was turned by the Lich King (whose actual name is Ner'zhul) who needed a physical form, a body and he found Arthas and chose him as his champion. The sword corrupts you the moment you start carrying and using it. Arthas killed his father, so his father was speaking to him through the sword. The sword acts a gateway to a soul keep where Arthas' father and thousands of other souls are trapped, however, there's a trick. The more souls Frostmourne sword swallows, the more difficult it is to control those restless souls who in the end assisted the living in killing the Lich King, when you as a player along with Tirion Fordring (an ingame important NPC) who shattered the Frostmourne, allowing trapped souls to come out of their prison and help the players attacking the Lich King (Arthas).

It's rather tragic if you think about it. The Prince, the Paladin, the son. Became what he had sworn to take down. Became the very threat he wanted to protect his subjects from. In this cinematic we have been shown the massive difference between the hopes and dreams his father, King Terenas Menethil, has hold for his boy and what became of him at the very end. We hear his father talking of what should have been while we actually watching what happened instead. As I say, rather tragic if you think about it.

What I miss in this cinematic is the background story of Arthas and such. His downfall as a Paladin, Prince and arise as a Death Knight and finally becoming the Lich King. The actual part of this story is in WC3, and it would be kinda boring see all that again in the trailer. But people who would watch it later, like Tibit here, will be left with many questions.

This boss was so op that he single handedly killed all raid members, that later only the paladin tyrion with the help of the last buff of the light, resurrected the players and even so, had to break frostmourne the sword of the lich king, with his counterpart of the light ashbringer, with the souls escaping from the sword they imprisioned the lich king to not allow him to do anything and the raid members took him down after, the lich king was just literally toying with the players untill he decided to kill them and resurrecting them to become his champions, seing they were worthy force to be reckon with, his ultimate goal was to make a powerfull force for the scourge and prepare it to face the other enemy of the other expansion the burning legion his jailers and makers. So yea too strong even for 25 raid players doing the best they could, only a strike by suprise from the ashbringer in tyrion's hands changed the corse of the action Cinematic to see in my opinion "The fall of the lich King" i believe you would like and would have an idea how dificult was.

Nobbel87 Is a really good channel to start on, Theres also a quickshot video that give a general summary of it in "The (almost) Complete History of World of Warcraft" by Hidden Azeroth, and PlatinumWoW is always a reliable one too! Sure there are books, but for the average person these channels are the doorway to all the lore.@@ironduke5058

And there's always quick videos that summarize like "The (almost) Complete History of World of Warcraft" by Hidden Azeroth. If you're not partial to watching videos about it they have books, and you can always play Warcraft 3 which spurs most of WoW's modern lore. This fictional universe is by far a conventional favorite by so so many people be it those who play games like the Warcraft RTS's, or card games like Hearthstone, or MOBA's like Heroes of the Storm, or WoW itself obviously.

Man... Arthas/The lich king is honestly... One of the best fricking written character in gaming industry. There are a lot of good ones and Arthas is up there among the legends.
