50:40 Honestly I don't see whats the issue with the story being "predictable" at some parts. The example that Sevy gave here with the theory that "Act 1 was entirely planned by the fatui" : IF it turns out to be truth it would mean that the writers did a brilliant job writting the Fontaine archon quests, since we the players were able to figure out with only key information that something was off during Act 1. And I'd ratter have a story that i'm able to predict by putting the pieces together that the writers pulling some BS out of thin air like the ending of Game of Thrones.
@rinnies7474 Жыл бұрын
Exactly! I hate when writers are trying to outsmart their viewers just for the sake of doing it, or not wanting to be predictable. Most of the time when writers do that, it turns into a mess like the example you gave. Also there's absolutely nothing wrong in being predictable, as long as you still find entertainment or you still enjoy the overall story. It gets really hard trying to be unpredictable when these works are based off x,y and z tropes, and cliches. It's how they are presented to you and how the writers utilised these tropes and cliches. 😆

100% agree. There is no shame in predictable because at least you're making logical sense. It's not twisting for the sake of surprise because that's less exciting and breaking rules YOU the author has established.
@FaithfulxFate Жыл бұрын
The problem with predictable story plots is that it’s something you already know and will know what happened which makes the story feel linear rather than complex where you can interpret parts of a story however you like which can open discussion about it, which is why stories that feels new and hard to predict feels refreshing and has discussions about it like how other people interpret an ending or a scene that occured in a few moments. Linear story is good if it follows the standard hero story where there is pay off, but I have never felt that in genshin, It feels more like an anime along with its cliches like seriously Furina looked felt like a court jester since her role in the story was to be an unreasonable character that is “Funny”.
@nde7816 Жыл бұрын
EXACTLY. I’d rather the story to be somewhat predictable than “woah plot twist!” all the time to the point where it doesn’t make sense. And I’m really glad that Hoyo didn’t do what GOT TV series writers did, like, when people predicted your story, you go along with it instead of trying to be different for the sake of being unpredictable

on the point of predictability: just because a story is predictable, doesn't make it bad. i'm one of those overthinking types that can figure out 90% of the ending to a story or chapter based off of a single screenshot or a handful of dialogue lines in context. but the reason i can still enjoy these stories or chapters despite knowing "whodunnit" is because the process of how the characters get from A to B constantly eludes me.

Tbh, comparing the new update to 2.0+ (Inazuma, which is still my favorite) and 3.0+ (Sumeru, which was a chore but was great), my expectations were really really high. I could understand how some players felt underwhelmed with the update, but I see the 4.0 update and the way Fontaine was introduced area-wise to be like an in-game trailer for something much more and much bigger the next few patches. I can see how the novelty feels a bit on the low end since it's a city with familiar and modern concepts: the bureaucrats in their big buildings vs the outcasts in the sewers, mechs and guns, mafias and syndicates and court room dramas. I'm looking forward to how HYV will spin things around for these and take things up a notch. Nevertheless, they've set solid introductions and foundations to characters and concepts that we will surely have enough time to get to know and understand later on. Now, exploration (underwater was fun but felt lacking) and QoL-wise, the devs have a loooot to catch up on as mentioned in this episode. Great talk, Sevy and Doro! Can't wait for the next episode!

59:52 I was NOT expecting yall to read my comment lmaooo, and yeah Doro kinda hit the nail on the head with me not reaally caring for the steampunk aesthetic. I didn't realize how much I just wasn't feelin it until he said that haha. When I think of Fontaine, I think of the underwater first and then the different islands with the mountains, I don't think of the city - and it makes sense to operate that way when you look at the other regions (especially sumeru). The vibe you get from a region is generally contained outside of the main area, with sumeru's forest and desert, mondstadt's plains, liyue's massive mountains and rugged, rocky structure, and then Inazuma's vastly varied islands and stories they contain. Meanwhile with fontaine all we really have (for lack of a better term) is the wet mondstadt parts. I'm hoping I'll get a fuller picture of the region as we get more areas to explore but as of right now the main area is very bleh outside of the main city, and I just personally aint a fan of the city's steampunk aesthetic (and as beautiful as the underwater areas are, i find the underwater combat experience way too dull to ever justify me spending time down there). As for the archon quest, I really like the way they handled the trial and story in Act I. They made the trial feel important as you piece together all the muddled information you got to reveal the real story while still getting key information along the way to make it extra heated. My issue with it mainly stems from Act II's implementation of it where it really just feels like an afterthought rather than a grand finale. The archon quest outside of the trial was alright, I didn't really love it or hate it, but that probably comes from me not bein the biggest navia fan. It was a good introduction to Fontaine, it had a nice driving story with the disappearing girls and Navia's past and relationships, and the ending with childe and neuvillette was really cool, but the trial really soured my taste for it all. It felt like they didn't have a lot of practice writing mysteries, and instead just wrote a normal genshin story quest while planning on having a big climax in the courtroom at the end. The problem with that is they... wrote the rest of it like a genshin story quest! (quick disclaimer, i dont know a damn thing about writing, im just gonna be talking from my own experience here, so feel free to set me straight in the replies lmao) The appeal of genshin's stories to me is both the interesting characters that are key in each one and what each story reveals about teyvat and the way it works / its history. We get to see cool characters doing cool things in a cool fantasy world that has cool lore. While that's great and all, it doesn't work in a mystery setting imo. We got to see Navia grow and learned her story and her past in the archon quest, but it was already said and done before the trial. We got to learn more about Fontaine and the whole water from the primordial sea thing, but again it was (mostly) outside of the trial. The whole quest felt like it was building up to the trial at the end where all would be revealed oOoOo but because of genshin's writing style, all that could be left is the emotional conflict between navia and the big bad villain, not any mystery or plot twists in the story (i refuse to call navia's uncle's reveal a "plot twist" because of how insanely obvious it was, they knew you knew). Then the issue presents itself when navia's big moment accusing her uncle is means nothing to us because 1 we knew he did it and 2 we have no reason to care about this random npc. All we're told about him is "Navia loves him" but we're just told that, never even shown it. She doesnt treat him like anything other than an acquaintance and the first time we meet him we're sussing him out to see if he's the culprit. It all just fell flat really hard for me, and it fell even harder because of how much build-up there was. If there wasn't the big childe reveal at the end of it, this easily could've just been a Navia solo quest with Neuvillette making a cameo for a potential trial scene. The whole thing felt like a Navia story quest pretending to be an archon quest with a gimmick that fell flat. Overall, I like Fontaine, and I can tell a lot of love and passion went into it, but it just aint my thing. The aesthetics are ones that just don't appeal to me, there's aint enough explorable areas for it to have a distinct identity in my head, and the second archon quest fell flat for me. But I'm glad Fontaine is what it is - the community seems to love it, and im sure it feels like a breath of fresh air after we were all down in the dirt with sumeru and its mountains of lore (and text). If yall had to deal with Sumeru while I happily skipped across miles of desert, I'm sure I can swim a lil while yall enjoy Fontaine haha. And I cant lie, I do love a lot of the characters here - c6 frem main and im (im)patiently waitin for wrio to come around so I finally have a damn use for scara's bell lmaoo. So yeah, Fontaine tripped and fell a few too many times for me to fall in love with it in 4.0, but im sure I'll catch on by the time we're headin to Natlan. Thanks for readin my essay of a comment, and I'd love if yall replied with some stuff you guys love about Fontaine, I really wanna hear what yall's favorite things about it are. And I loved Doro as a guest, he's a very insightful guy! Have a nice day yall o7 (P.S. I'm a massive Danganronpa and Ace Attorney fan, so thats prolly why I have higher standards for the trial parts, but the whole thing felt like dangan game 1 case 3. iykyk)

49:00 funny he said that the archon quest was predictable, because I actually had the opposite problem with it. I generally enjoyed the story, but it feels like the writers didn't really take advantage of Ace Attourney/Danganronpa-esque framework that they wrote the quest around. First off, it didnt really feel like the mc was the main character of the arc. Navia was a far more prominent force, as she had all the emotional investment, she gave us leads and theories, and she even has an entire segment where she goes off on her own to do off-screen investigation and figures out WAY more than the traveler ever did. Because the trial was so centered on her past and less on hard evidence found by the player, we could theorize but basically nothing was set in stone until she said it herself. It's not inherently bad that the trial was Navia-centric as it could be a way to frame the traveler as being somewhat out of their depth, but if they continue to format trials this way I'll definitely be a little disappointed. Additionally, the whole piecing-together-evidence segments just felt pretty messy to me. A lot of evidence felt somewhat redundant ESPECIALLY in the first trial (most items boil down to "Lyney wasn't where Furina said he was"), making it a weird guessing game as to which exact piece the game is calling for. A pretty large amount of those sections also framed the traveler as the stupidest person in the room. I don't wanna go on for too long, but whenever DR or AA has you put together evidence, it is because everyone else has hit a wall or come to a conclusion that the main character knows isn't true. Everyone has the same information, but the player is the only one who can figure out the truth with it. In Genshin, a large amount of those evidence sections come right after another character figures something out and then looks at the player and says "you're thinking what I'm thinking, right?" You're not allowed figure things out before someone else does, which just feels kinda shitty. Again, if this is all intentional it's fine, but I feel like if the traveler was meant to grow as an investigator we would've seen it in act 3. TLDR; I felt as if the trial would've played out the same way if the traveler wasn't even there. The trials were unpredictable because I felt as if there was always someone hiding offscreen with a piece of key information that I just didn't have and couldn't account for. I liked the story, but I don't think it's a good mystery game.

First time listening to your podcast (while doing my weekly SU + exploring Genshin), and it is thoroughly well laid out, albeit still entertaining to listen to. I am glad to hear every single opinion you both made not just about Genshin, but also about your experiences in content creation, which I'll be honest, is hard to find a good one out there especially when everyone's opinion is not treated the same. Genshin, despite the release of Fontaine, remained stale with the updates. Do not get me wrong, Fontaine itself is superb and breathtaking alongside its stories and characters. It is just that I am a bit frustrated whenever I see the updates in Genshin's sister game HSR where every update seems like a Lantern Rite festival in Genshin terms (like literally, every patch has 10 free pulls, and that's not all). I keep on asking myself "Why can't we have roguelike PERMANENT game modes like the Simulated Uni in Genshin?", "Why can't we have the good stuff like auto-resin reserve in Genshin?", "Why does Genshin feel like they are holding back with the version content? Are they stupid?", "Shield meter and buff timers when?" All of these questions, some stupid some well-pondered, are making Genshin less enjoyable, especially to players who have been playing it for a long time. I'll end my short ranting right there (because I don't want to create a 5000-word essay of things Genshin can learn from HSR), but tl;dr I really do hope Genshin's team will start incorporating ideas from its sister game as well as get good with the QoLs (I mean, underground maps and daily commission revamp is a good start) ;-; If you are reading this (maybe Sevy will read this too-), I am glad you read my mumbling pertaining to Sevy Doro44 podcast collab and hope you have a great day!

I felt that in my heart, when players felt betrayed that some of the character selection screen animations were underwhelming. Ignoring the fact that some animations are extremely simple and bland actions (Zhongli, Alhaitham, and Beidou's turnarounds), some are straight-up copies of one of the characters' default idle animations. I hope they do better with newer characters. Anyway, thanks for another nice episode! I agree so much about the resin thing: i am still a new player and i find myself playing more when i have resin. I am ar 55 already but thats only bcs i kinda played everyday since i started (3.7 2nd half). Now the thing is, i enjoy playing with people and joining coop to explore is different from joining coop to do bosses, domains etc. I noticed that the more i play the game, the more i see the value of resin. Yes exploring is amazing especially if you are just discovering different areas, but in the long run, u will soon 100% areas and u will soon see everything that region has to offer. However, when my resin is still full, mentioning coop again, its sooo much more fun to play with people doing combats. -I sometimes find myself joining random domains to coop with people even if im out of resin and its just so much fun. Maybe having a higher resin cap would be nice but also having a faster replenish time could do the job.

Not sure if I would say that I'm blown away by the architecture of Fontaine but it looks really good to me. I really like the Archon Quest for Fontaine so far and I'm interested to see how far they will go with making the story "darker". I don't think the Archon Quest was necessarily predictable to the point where you know every single little thing before it happens but because we deal with these types of things in real life, the overall story of Act I might feel predictable to some people.

Regarding the QoL situation: I think it's true that Star Rail got a lot of system improvements over Genshin and I would love to see them carried over, i.e. permanent availability of talents materials, unification of boss materials etc. The resin change cited at 1:21:05 however is something that also happened in Genshin, just so long ago that people forget. But I very clearly remember loging in for a few minutes in the morning before leaving to work because I wanted to avoid capping my resin if I was out for too long. If anything I was disappointed that Star Rail made me do it again.

58:00 Don't forget we're still only one patch into 4.x, Hoyo could not unleash all their plans with pneuma/ousia on us that fast. 3.0 Abyss also was much lighter on Dendro mechanics than later rounds. I wouldn't be surprised if later on Pneuma/Ousia started providing more significant advantage in Abyss, something on similar level to how you don't need to bring Hyperbloom to beat ASIMON but it pays off big time if you do. 1:24:00 Regarding diapers, gliding and so on... my guess is, it's affected by the game's chinese origin. I've heard that in china, you can't peek on your character while flying, they would disappear similarly to when climbing. And on the other hand, the thing is, when gliding or running around, it's your choice how you turn your camera. While when swimming forward, you're pretty much always looking at the character from below. I think I'm almost thankful for the "diaper" because none of the characters are really designed to look good from this angle. I guess we get more fun with the diaper than what we would without it.

I have 2 points on Fontaine, but both surprised me in different ways. First is the exploration: Initially, I was annoyed that half the zone was going to be underwater and that there wasn't going to be much fighting on top of being able to just go there the second you are done with Mondstat, however, after exploring it now for a while, I actually enjoy the relaxed nature of the underwater portion of the game and am looking forward to more of it. The going there early instead of questing to it like Inazuma specifically is actually a really good thing especially for new players since you can go there and be able to get the materials you need for specific characters instead of being forced to wait. I hope they do that for all the zones moving forward. My second point is about the story. I don't see how anyone thought this was predictable at all. I didn't see the twist in Liney's magic show coming at all because I thought it was going to end up with that thief girl being all tied up and revealed to be who she was. The whole Vacher thing caught me completely off guard as well. The weakest point of the quest, in my opinion, was Furina herself who came off as a spoiled brat who constantly ran her mouth without thinking first. She gives me strong Sakura from Naruto vibes just minus the simping over some dude.

First of all, I gotta say I'm loving the podcast episodes. About the Genshin vs HSR comparisons in regards to qol improvements I gotta say, i would love for resin increase in genshin but it's not really that important because apart from 36 staring abyss there isn't really need to level up characters faster. The game itself is easy and pretty much any character half built can take care of overworld content. HSR in the other hand just came with the swarm thing which is brutal, the game has been out for a few months and IL already powercrept all the other dps and if they follow honkai Impact legacy, powercreep will be present in the game. So building characters faster is a *need* to keep up with the harder content Again, would love for genshin to increase resin but I get why they feel like it's not needed

What I would love to see as qol improve in genshin actually is remove the fact that the talents and materials domains are locked under specific days. Great episode, love Doro Not gonna lie, this is definitely a very semantics opinion but I can't help getting annoyed when people say "oh genshin is finally getting dark" for fontaine. Like, Alhaitham's quest had suicide. Scaramouche's story involves abandonment, betrayal, immense amounts of self-loathing, and murder. Even the archon quest was a tyrannical government literally imprisoning a newborn god and harvesting the essence of their people for their own crazy schemes. I will agree that the issues referenced in Fontaine are much easier to tie to things we have experience with in the real world, but I think saying Genshin was only "dark" before Fontaine in artifacts or books is a bit of a disservice lol. this is definitely an unpopular take though

I think the people who think Fontaine is a let down or think the story is mediocre forget that Genshin is still a casual player oriented game. The puzzles will always be on the easier side - and so the Phoenix Wright aspect of the archon quests won't be hard. The exception was GAA 2, that island had harder puzzles and I had a blast exploring it. The point about the the villains being one dimensional...I think the villains we've seen so far in act one and two are just minor villains. Sure, they could have been multidimensional, but I don't think they are very important to the overall plot either. The "true" villains that we've seen so far, for example Dottore, have been phenomenal. I definitely think we'll see the major villain for the Fontaine arc showing up in the next two versions, so hopefully we can see a more multidimensional villain then. I keep saying the traveler should be downgraded to a 4 star character. They don't deserve to be a 5 star when their dps is compared to limited or (most) standard banner characters at C0. Thanks for the interview Sevy! Looking forward to more of your podcast!

I think I'm one of those odd balls who was kind of disappointed by Fontaine. I don't think I'm burnt out because I don't play Genshin daily any way but I am underwhelmed by the exploration which is my favourite part of Genshin along with lore (for reference I 100%ed Sumeru desert before 3.8 without the treasure compass and map update). I was so stoked for the underwater stuff when the trailer dropped but I found the underwater exploration a bit bland, the puzzles are also toddler level again in Fontaine (but I do appreciate that they give you exquisite chests now) and even though I don't see a lot of people complaining now I do think in two or three patches people are going to be tired of moving in the water. I get why Fontaine landscape doesn't awe you as much as the Sumeru ones, it's just that so many games have European countryside as a setting and not enough have good anime deserts or rainforests. But the battle music is also underwhelming for me (no it's not because of the composer, my fav sumeru songs were not by him and nothing can beat duel in the mist I fear) as well as Lyney's story quest. I did like the archon quest tho and I'm excited for all the characters so far and definitely for the Fatui lore Edit : Genshin World Quests have always had darker tones and what happened in the Archon Quest is probably tame compared to what happened in the lore ( The tanit tribe, Enkanomiya kids, tsurumi island, that one world quest where you have to fight this guy who slaughtered his village)

Idk if I'm the only one who felt it. When it comes to star rail resin?(i forgot what it calls), it felt that you needed more since you need mats for the traces, you have 6 relics and the number of characters to build and matching its weaknesses to give you more numbers. So yeah that's my experience in star rail. For genshin, definitely increase the resin even for 180 to 200 or more stored fragile resins. Am i the one who thinks that star rail and genshin have different platformed used for coding? It felt like it though but please correct me if I'm wrong I'm willing to listen. And more collabs! I love doro he's like a big brother to me even i didn't see him personally.

I really like Fontaine but I’ll admit I had a better time exploring the desert. Partly because this first section is pretty small and you have to go through over water multiple times at different elevations to find lots of stuff. I think I just need a bigger sea.

Great show. I personally feel Sumeru was ok and keep in mind Sumeru was so big cuz thats where it all began all shit 500 Years ago all began ther. Khanriah literal gate locked with the seven archons seals is in Sumeru. I think Sumeru had to be big because it was such a lore dump. I 100 % everything did every WQ aswell im F2P so primos are nessecary :). Also Dehya best character enough said.

1:10:50 Yeah, no. Because Nahida’s was one of the best banners ever. And Alhaitham did well. Baizhu was the only 5 Dendro Character that bombed and that’s because it was released not only during the Dry period, but also after the Hu Tao Yelan Double Banner, which was the highest selling one ever. Not to mention that Baizhu took to long to come out and few people cared at that point. If they were concerned about that, they wouldn’t have given both Bennett and Lynette for free during Lyney’s banner. If anything, the amount of already Good Hydro Characters in players’ possession is what would affect sales if they don’t meet certain standards both in performance and design/characterization. Not Hydro Traveler being at very least usable.

Exactly. My despair when they stated their intent for 50:50 ratio for surface vs underwater areas. For all their beauty and convenience, taking away the _core_ gameplay mechanic that got me into the game in the first place is frustrating. Get a character, level up, farm talents and artifacts, and then dive underwater to use other sea creatures' skills? If they know darn well the regular elemental combat system won't work, then they should reduce underwater areas to a quarter to third of the map. Having exceeded 100% of the current map, there's no reason anymore for me to dive and rob myself of my team's elemental combos. Now I'm stuck to those narrow strips of land hunting what few enemies there are.
@controlcon Жыл бұрын
The whole appeal of Fontaine is the underwater. I absolutely got burnt out of Sumeru because it was fundamentally the same feeling as the rest of the regions imo, the underwater exploration is way more fun right now. Obviously eventually it'll get boring too but we've had normal boring exploration every patch so far, why can't Fontaine be a little different? It's the land of Hydro after all. You say that you're stuck to the small strips of land, but you literally have half of the region to do so. Is half not enough?

@@st0281zrI played *Breath of the Wild* for seven months long after I completed the game. Why? Because it was just so _fun_ . With seemingly limited ability set, one chain together rather complex combos, some even unintended but perfectly legal according to game rules (like bomb jumping), that makes the gameplay so _satisfying_ . Even when repeating the same activities over and over, month after month. I played *Nier Automata* all over again (after the save game delete feature), re-farmed and maxed out everything, and specifically played a story section repeatedly (against the once-friendly androids). Why? Because it was just so _fun_ . The elemental combat system of *Genshin Impact* is similarly so _fun_ . Achieving the elemental reactions and synergy between characters is so _satisfying_ . Add new characters and abilities and near endless possibilities will open up; provided they design the characters well of course. What revitalised the game that got players excited when version 3 released? Oh yea, _dendro_ which stirred up the _combat_ scene in brand new ways. And realise in this very video Sevy and Doro are echoing my displeasure, as with anybody drawn into the game because of the brilliant combat system. Gameplay is _king_ . If it is fun, I will keep playing it. Add to the fun, I will be happy. Deduct the fun (like adding so much underwater areas) then I will be less happy. The formula is very simple. Notice the examples I listed above are not MMOs so I am unsure what preoccupation you have with that genre and what argument you are positioning for.

@@st0281zr I'm not mad; I'm disappointed. Did I mention a game I didn't enjoy? I played those games and _loved_ them. I am perfectly capable of playing games, have my fun, then move onto another game to have other fun. *Genshin Impact* just so happens to be what I'm currently having fun with. There is nothing wrong with being able to identify what one likes or dislikes about how games are designed and implemented. Otherwise all those people complaining about EA Sports or Blizzard games could be considered spoilt brats too. And by extension Sevy and Doro are also spoilt brats. Perhaps Angry Joe is the most spoilt of them all, I guess. How successful a game is be it popularity or revenue has no influence over _my own actual game experience_ playing it. Or I am supposed to outright dislike games like *GNOG* or *ABZÛ* simply because they don't have wide reach, and then somehow have to like *League of Legends* or *Elder Scrolls Skyrim* even when I don't find them appealing?

People really don't understard the resin thing at all and why is it bad to incrase it in Genshin . Since they incresed energy in Star Rail I opted not to login daily . In Genshin they want you to login daily and create "trafic" for them(I think they said it in a video nut take my comment with a grain of salt because I'm not too sure XD ) , if they incrase the resin you will not login everyday because you know your resin is not maxed out . In star rail you have little to no exploration so they really need to do it there . Also Overall the podcast was amazing and thank you for this amazing video 🥰
@phoenixlau Жыл бұрын
You still need to log in daily to Star Rail to not cap out. Yes, there is reserve resin, but it accrues at a lower rate, i.e. you are still "punished" for skipping, just not as harshly. Since the need for resin to build characters is just as high if not higher in Star Rail (I'm completely tapped out just from Fu Xuan mid-build, haven't even started Lynx project yet), for me at least the incentive to suck up every drop of resin available is still there. This is also to say nothing of the primos you miss from skipping, which are even more crucial for F2P especially. The main benefit to me of raising the cap + reserve system is that you have leeway to log in once daily at different times. Right now you need to do it twice, and exactly at that time.

The best QOL update Genshin could ever give for me is the interactive map syncing on in game progress. As for Fontaine underwater swimming, a lot of people talk about the underwater combat and stuff, but the issue that really bothered me was the fact that only Fontaine characters can Dolphin jump, even Kokomi which was shown on her character demo can't. Traversal is a big thing in my opinion and I feel bad they locked this feature for older characters, it's like the equivalent of "ONLY Mondstadt units can glide" or "ONLY Liyue units can jump when climbing" or "ONLY Sumeru units can grapple on those Four-Leaf Sigils", it's not good. I wonder why people don't talk about this issue much, basic traversal shouldn't be locked on wishes.

I believe that Fontaine's event is kinda meh this time because they're really taking the community's feedback by heart. People said: "Don't put the character's lore into the event!" and they did. And in the end, it becomes a bland event that no one cares about. I still strongly oppose having Simulated Universe in Genshin. I still don't do my swarm SU because that one really burned me out and really make me not even want to touch Star Rail. Many of my friends also the same. For the people who like hard challenge, it might be good, but for total casual players, it's just another path to stressful day. Since the swarm SU added, I realize that I don't even have motivation to play Star Rail. And I don't want that in Genshin, because Genshin is the only way for me to truly stay sane and happy during the hardest time in my working life right now, and I just want it to be stress free. For me, the best of Fontaine is the characters. I think that the characters are just so vibrant. Maybe I just like the way they act and talk like normal "human." Or maybe it's because of Sumeru keeps giving us weird pets like Sorush and Liloupar, but I seriously just love the Fontaine characters. They have their own personality and it keeps thing fresh.

@SevyPlays You asked for a Fontaine Hot Take, so here's mine (though I don't know if this is "Hot" or not): Coppelius Sucks! Coppellia is fine, but I don't like how they designed Coppelius. He requires very specific characters or you're just not going to beat him unless your characters are cracked. I used my Tighnari Comp that runs Nahida against him; the same comp I used against Coppelia that wrecked her. I barely beat Coppelius with that comp because of his BS Shield. It wasn't until I searched "Icewind Suite" on the Internet that I found out why that Shield was such BS. Only Anemo (which he is highly resistant against), Geo, Electro, Pyro, and Claymores can actually damage his Shield. When I found out that Shield was impervious to Dendro, I was pissed. So, to satisfy the Elemental Requirements to efficiently break that shield, I brought out Zhongli and Ei. I was like, "Ok you wrecked one Archon. Let's see how you deal with TWO." Yeah... Rock plus Booba Sword destroyed him. But I shouldn't have had to do that. You either need very specific elements to take that shield down efficiently or you need Ouisa. The two Ouisa characters, currently, are Lynette and Freminet who are Anemo and Cryo respectively. AKA the two elements that Coppelius is most resistant against. So I either have to own and have built very specific characters or I have compromise my team just to be able to efficiently break that shield. Kinda BS if you ask me. I mean, for me it's not a huge issue because I have all the characters (except Cyno and Nilou) and the correct ones built, but I can see this design completely screwing F2P players who don't have the necessary characters nor the characters they DO have being cracked enough to compromise their team by including a Ouisa Character that is going to do eff all against Coppelius outside of his Shield (especially if you're trying to farm this guy specifically FOR your Ouisa character). This just seems like really bad design to me.
@phoenixlau Жыл бұрын
It's called an element check. There are tons of bosses and other enemies that behave similarly, so I don't know why Coppelius in particular grinds you more than the rest. Like you noted, pyro and ousia are most favored, but there are plenty of tangential options that also work (e.g. electro teams like Aggravate). Your dendro-centric comp just happened to hit one of its bad matchups (cryo). Thems the breaks, kid. Other teams have bad matchups too. Being able to use your brain and counterdraft your team or individual subs vs. these matchups is part of the game. Seems you figured it out in the end just fine.
@ForeverDegenerate Жыл бұрын
@@phoenixlau Because Coppelius is the only enemy in the game with a shield that is immune to more than one element. And Elemental Shields are a pain in the ass already. To me, this goes beyond "Element Check." Having a Cryo Shield that is immune to Cryo is an "Element Check." And Dendro isn't a bad match-up against Cryo. Dendro is a bad match-up, specifically, against Coppelius' Cryo Shield. In fact, I would go so far as to say that if I didn't have Nahida, there's no way my Tighnari Team would have survived that initial fight. Which goes back to what I said in my original post that you either have to have specific characters or your builds need to be cracked to beat this guy all because his Elemental Shield is BS. My problem is that Coppellius goes beyond merely having the right elements and, instead, requires very specific characters and/or very specific builds. Or it forces you to swipe to buy Fontaine Characters to bypass all the BS. This goes beyond a mere "check" and is a hard "gate," imo. And I don't like that.
@phoenixlau Жыл бұрын
@@ForeverDegenerate Most cryo shields behave in similar way to Coppelius. Cryo herald, cryo abyss mage, etc. (Note this differs from cryo "armor", e.g. Fatui) Pyro 1st, electro 2nd, anemo/geo/blunt 3rd. Cryo/hydro/dendro no effect. So cryo enemies are absolutely a bad matchup vs. dendro. One of the recent 3.x Abyss had exactly that situation on one side. Easily fixable by diversifying your dps sources. You don't need "cracked builds" to clear an element check. All you need is application of enough units to break, actual damage is irrelevant.
@ForeverDegenerate Жыл бұрын
@@phoenixlau Huh. I've never had any problems against Cryo Shields with Dendro outside of Coppelius. " All you need is application of enough units to break, actual damage is irrelevant." As far as Coppellius is concerned, as far as I can tell, this is not the case. Unless I'm reading his Shield Information wrong, only specific elements are coded to be allowed to damage and break his Shield.
@phoenixlau Жыл бұрын
@@ForeverDegenerate When I say units, I'm talking about elemental gauge theory. Some attacks can apply 1 unit per hit, some can do 2 or even 4. How much damage that attack would normally do to an unshielded enemy is irrelevant to how many units it is worth for breaking a shield. If you had a level 1 Xiangling, you could swap her in for a few seconds just to drop a burst and leave, and that would be just as effective as level 90 for breaking.
