Im an advocater of having drawings within my books, like I don’t want to read a three page long description, just draw it for me on the page and then let me flip to the next page.

My toxic book trait is lowkey being a hater... I read loads of books (around 200 in the last few years) but I only rated 10 of them 5 stars, around 20 more were not 5 star reads but altered my brain chemistry and I remember them fondly, but the rest was not for me to various degree. I've learned the hard way to not reach for recommended titles just because they're popular. And to develop a DNF system that gives book a fair chance, but also doesn't leave me stuck reading a book that I don't enjoy. I definitely was guilty of buying entire series (of at least multiple entries) at once... not one of these series was one I was interested in reading entirety of. Also, I've got to say, nothing beats having to organize impromptu bookshop trip just because one is dying to read another book in the series, having to yearn for it just for a little while... I decided not to deprive myself of it anymore! Also I feel like too many times I got myself into emotional blackmail kind of situation, with series looking down on me when I quite frankly I wasn't going to continue it... don't need that in my life 😅

LOL I'm the complete opposite. I feel like I rate too many books too highly 😅 That being said, I've also learned to be cautious with hyped books. If the only reason I'm reading it is because I'm seeing it everywhere, I've almost always been disappointed. And you are so right!! It's hard to resist the instant gratification of buying a whole series at once, BUT there is something special about getting them one at a time. I've been doing that with a couple of series recently and I think I prefer it. You get to stay in the world longer, you have books that you're excited for to look forward to, and the extra bookstore trips/ book mail is the best! ...also totally feel you on the emotional blackmail thing. Currently Finale (the last book in the Caraval trilogy) is burning holes into the back of my head. Also the Plated Prisoner series and a Cassandra Clare trilogy I bought over a year ago are always taunting me 🫣 lol

i relate to the comment that was talking about flipping through pages i haven’t read and then spoiling myself 🫠 sometimes i do it cause i “need” to make sure the book actually gets interesting, sometimes i do it because i like the book so much that i want to know how it ends, but everytime i do it, i get frustrated with myself for doing it lol!! i’m also physically incapable of dnfing a book… i feel like i’m not giving it a fair shot unless i read it all the way through, even if i end up giving it a 2 or 1 star review

I've definitely been tempted to, but I know I would be super annoyed with myself if I did, so I resist lol. Sometimes I do skim over certain lines or paragraphs though, to move the story along (mainly when authors are too descriptive/ repetitive with how a character is feeling. It's like "ok alright already" lol).

My toxic book trait is loving the library, but never being able to read a library copy. I HATE the protective cover things they put on them, so I’ll often check out a book, read the first chapter and then immediately go buy the physical copy myself.

Also LOVE the library...but I actually love the plastic library covers 😂 I wouldn't want it for books that I own, but it feels nostalgic lol 💕 And, for the book buying girlies, I actually think your way is a smart way to decide if a book is worth buying. I might need to start doing this too! lol

how do you feel about unhauling or just giving books to family/close friends? that way if a better cover comes in, you won't have two copies ?

I never keep two copies of the same book, so I 💯 think that's the best way to get rid of books! I have a big box that I've started filling to donate/ bring to Little Free Libraries, and I've also sent a few to my sister. #sharingiscaring lol

My toxic trait is setting a Goodreads goal to an amount I know I won't accomplish. And those pretty covers!!! Can't resist them. PS: I started reading A Door in the Dark but stopped reading it after I got to know that the third book in the series is not available in my country. I am the kind who forgets the plot after one month or so. This can also be my toxic trait.

I thought I set a reasonable Goodreads goal for my self...but I've been behind all year, so same LOL Oh no! That sucks!!! ☹️ I wonder why it won't be available? And I totally understand you stopping! I also forget a plot shortly after reading it. I try my best not to start a series unless all the books are out or they'll be out soon...but I haven't been very good at that this year 😅

When I moved to my apartment a year ago I thought that organizing all the books by author in alphabetical order was a good idea. IT WASN'T. It was total chaos. Different heights. Paperback mixed with hardcovers. Romance mixed with sci-fi, mixed with YA mixed with fantasy. I do not recommend! 🤣

HAHAHA noted! I did them just by color the first time I got my shelves (not a straight rainbow, more like color clumps lol)...hated it. It was also chaos lol. All my series and authors were all mixed up and it drove me nuts. I still do the color clump thing, but now I also put series together and it's way better.

I think a toxic trait I have is that I am 100% an audiobook girlie but I will buy the physical book if I really liked it even though I will most likely never read the physical 😂. I think I just want to show off and prove I’m actually a reader.

I want Tommrow, tommrow, and tommrow in paperback with the sprayed edges, but like I have the hard cover so why do i need the other one?! wait you legit can´t take out 800 books, and you have to give them back. You can take back like 10 at a time. I hate when people dont use bookmarks. also if the book spine is already ¨damaged¨ then it´s fine, but like also use a book mark please.

I feel your pain! It's so hard to find another cover you like of a book you already have. I don't like having more than one copy of a book, so that is my personal hell 😂 ...also funny enough I saw a version of that book the other day that was so cool looking! (I think it was the UK version) I've never thought about getting it, but for that cover...I might have to 😏 (I say as I'm on my first official book buying ban 🙃)

I don´t understand how people can have more then one copy of a book they already have. Like two hard back? @@spiritedreviewexc LOL I never keep two of the same book. If I find one I like better I make myself choose...but let me tell you this whole Wisteria business is REALLY putting that to the test. I pre-ordered the hardcover for the 3rd book, and I'm trying to be ok with that....but the other two paperbacks look so incomplete 😭 And I think making a system is a good idea! I think I'm putting myself on a book buying ban for the rest of the year 😬(only exception is new books that I've been waiting for). And then I think after that I want to do a *read 5, buy 1* sort of thing. That way I still get to buy books, and also still make a dent in my tbr. I haven't read any of the Maple Hill series yet. That's one of the reasons I started this channel. I needed to talk books to someone! lol Bahaha love that you peeked your mom's interest with reverse harem 😂My mom's a big murder show watcher, so I tried to get her into reading with a thriller...but maybe I should send her some smut instead 🤔😋 Also no worries on my bad day, it was just one of those days where everything was being difficult 🥴lol But right!? buying a couple books after a bad day is totally reasonable! ..although very similarly I walked in and immediately found 3 books I wanted and was like "...oop well this might be a problem😳" lol. but I'm happy to report I just stuck with those 3, one of which being Voyage of the Damned. I'd never heard of it before, but man does it have the COOLEST hardcover! 😂

Ugh yes the really cool covers are the ones I will instantly Pre-order 🥲I feel so called out with these. The amount of times, I stop reading so I can go into my fiancé's office to tell him about the book I'm reading 🤣🤣 I'm the same with used books. I had a traumatic moment borrowing a library book and since then, I can't borrow physical books anymore. 🥲so I buy all of mine new or get "new" books through Pango if I'm able to see the condition the book is in. Not to add to the book buying problem...but have you seen the Waterstones covers for the Belladonna series 🙃
