Black widow is colored to look like a Black Widow spider. The black with red lines. Her arm dots are like a stun device that gives her like stun gun punches. Sadly I don’t think they use them in the game. She gets her stun rods instead. People also say her curves help give that spider like body
@alekid19 күн бұрын
yes, I was about to comment the same about the spider look, without pushing the design into a sort of "spiderverse" direction. She's very well designed and I think it's my favorite. I love these videos you do about character design. I'm no artist, but really enjoy looking at character designs and what does or doesn't work. You professional insights are very interesting and help me understand more about why I do or don't like different designs. Now for my takes: That Loki design is fantastic! A really good, unique, take on the character, whilst keeping all the base elements of his costume. The fur was a very nice touch. It's a very royal look, that ties into how he see's himself as the rightful king of Asgard, whilst also invoking colder climates, which references his backstory as a frost giant. Easy 10/10 from me. Wolverine is a decent idea that I personally don't think was very well executed. My biggest problem is less with the costume itself, but more with the fact that his hands and arms are ludicrously, comically, huge. That, combined with the collar on the jacket, make it look like he has no neck, which is very off-putting. I get they're going for more exaggerated proportions, but I think they really overdid it on Wolverine. I do kind of like what they were going for with combining the casual jacket look, with the colours and aesthetics of his comic book suit. There's a good idea there, that's buried under the weird gorilla proportions. 4/10 Spiderman is ok, but I agree with you that less is more with him. I think there's a bit too much blue on his costume, and removing the bits on his hands would probably have been enough to tone that down a bit. Otherwise, not bad though. Not my favorite interpretation of the suit, but nowhere near the worst I've seen either. 5/10 Thor is pretty good. He suffers from the same lack of neck issue as Wolverine, but to a lesser extent, due to the lack of collar. His hands are also much more proportionate to his arms, and the exaggerated proportions are overall much better executed here. My biggest complaint is the lack of a cape. That's a big element to his costume, which is just completely absent, and I'm not liking that. Giving him his red cape would probably have solved the issue of not having enough red on his costume. Also, the hammer is the same colour as the armour on his chest, which makes it kind of blend into his torso in that picture. 6/10 Iron Man is pretty great. Maybe a little bit too much bulk around the arc reactor area, but otherwise, no real complaints from me. Solid 8/10. Black Widow is overall nice. That hairstyle is getting a bit too dangerously close to the SJW "shaved on one side" haircut, (that I absolutely loathe with a passion on female characters) but I love her suit design. I like the red accents, that resemble the markings of actual black widow spiders. Change the haircut to something less modern and cringe, and this would be an easy 10/10. As is, I'll give it 8/10. (Yes I hate the SJW haircut that much. That awful design fad needs to stay in 2014, where it belongs. Make women feminine again.) I'm not very familiar with squirrel girl, but that's a pretty nice, short-stack style, design. Good balance between sexy and cool. She looks pretty strong, without looking like a man in drag, and no SJW haircut in sight. Your interesting insights just made me appreciate the design even more. Very cute design, I like it. 10/10

It only looks odd in that manner because it's divided, which most modern Spider-Man designs really like to do for sone reason. I think the belt is a key facet of the character design, and would like it to simply be more visually clear, rather than removed entirely.

Hi again Jerrel, First I love the boldness of the art style and designs of the characters, Even though some of the designs aren't really my cup of tea I can appreciate its nailed a certain style and I think its very cool. And that's what you want with character design - that you nail the "cool" factor. You look at some games recently where the character designs haven't been as strong such as Concord and we aren't seeing the "cool factor" that helps a character resonate with players. With Marvel Rivals one thing that absolutely baffles me is the callout shot for Wolverine: he doesn't have his claws popped. Unless I'm missing something like a rollover or select state animation where he pops his claws, but if not I think this may be the first time I have ever seen a callout shot of Wolverine for any comic cover, poster, game, show or movie where he hasn't got his claws out. It's so synonymous with his character, iconic and instantly recognisable. It's well known in character design that a good character design should usually be recognisable by their silhouette - turn this callout shot all black and you can probably guess its Wolvie by his proportions and frame, but whack 6 claws coming out the hands and you know who it is instantly. Same as you Jerrel one of the first things I noticed was that it would have been really nice to have some yellow in his boots to tie in with the jacket and the original design. Keep the tongue silver to tie in with the claws and the soles blue to tie in with the shoulder pads, but add in some yellow to the side panels or as you suggested the trim - to me that would look more unified. Last thing, its a small detail but whenever I have done artwork of Wolvie, I have given him a Canadian Maple Leaf belt buckle. Wolvie is a proud Canucklehead and I think its cool to show more of a narrative element to the character rather than a cheap and easy "W" for Wolverine for his buckle. To me its totally out of his character to wear something like that. But I love the uniqueness and boldness of this games art design. As someone who is a massive Joe Madureira fan - Joe had a massive Manga and anime influence to his art when he worked on X-Men comics back in the 90's. Joe made himself a massive fanbase with his unique takes on the characters, but there were others who really didn't like Joe's style, so I can see this game having it's fans and ppl it wont resonate with. Anyway, another great character design video! Thanks!

I enjoy you calm approach to criticism, really like the chill vibes you give. Something I haven’t seen you do yet, and perhaps you have in a video I have not seen, is show your own character designs. I’d like to see what you’ve done, as an enjoyer of your content, but would also like some credibility added to your portfolio. Take care man.

You should do this comparison in game as the heroes change in gameplay when they use abilities, Wolverines hair for example goes more in the spikey side as in comics when he uses abilities

25:45 They're clasps. The ones on his shoulders are to attach a cape that he is clearly not wearing, a noted reflection to Loki's design.

Sungrand knows his stuff man. I trust this guy’s opinion lol he starts off with my two favorite characters as well with Wolverine and Spider-Man, but then he goes straight it to Loki, glazing up what I also find to be Marvel’s best written show so far 🔥🔥 he knows good superhero content

I highly recommend you do these character videos in game to rotate the models, check skins, etc. This game has a higher quality production than maybe any other game i have ever seen in terms of raw money on screen in the design at all times. Every hero has custom animations for even zooming in to inspect the character model.

Cloak and Dagger are a baaadAAS concept, I really like it. They included a couple as an inseparable unit an example of a non-casual, meaningful relationship in a videogame. How patriarchal and oppressive!

If you do a part 2, please do it in-game. As a lot of the animations are fantastic, plus the MVP animations go super hard.
