I agree with you! She’s always wanted to do this kind of music. Her debut album was heavily influenced by 90s R&B and was executive produced by Babyface. Then she switched over to pop to play the game to get more famous only so when she went back to her roots, it’ll be successful. And it worked!

Exactly!!! I’ve been saying this to everyone I talk to about this lol. She’s ALWAYS made r&b. Yours Truly was entirely r&b. Most of her pop music is full of r&b and hip hop influence as well. Ariana is in the same exact scenario artists like Tinashe are in- society and the industry puts them in boxes. We tell artists who they are. It’s silly for anyone to get upset that an artist has a variety of genres & influences in their music ya know? Glad I’m not the only one out here saying this 😁

And you could tell watching old KZbin videos, that she was always trying to bring her vocals up to the point where she could do more of what she's doing with music now. Even in those early videos it sounded more like 90's R&B than it did pop. The only time it was different then was when she was doing songs in Broadway theater style.

the thing i likes bout the 7 rings video she literally did call back and references to her older era and she is showing that she doesn’t want that bubble gum pop attached to her name anymore. hints why some people didn’t like the rout she took with this song and they want her to stick to doing pop and Ariana shown that she grown up and that she is gonna do what she pleases. and also the song was inspired by my favorite things from the sound of music
