If you saw the movie, “Naruto: The Last” it even says in there that Hinata, and not just Hinata but the whole Hyuga clan, are descendants of Hamura’s bloodline which is why Boruto inherited that eye. It’s probably a subset of the bayakugan right, a weaker version of it maybe but in all honestly idk. I’d like to know what that eye does though cuz idk wtf it does lol.

He got the eye from the other naruto movie when Hinata was kidnapped and the ōtsutsuki member implanted a black orb that looked like a truth seeker, inside Hinata, which that was later given to boruto because he was the first born. His eye can sense evil chakra so basically he’s able to see bad people in a more complex version than the byakugan. What’s he gained from Momoshiki was all of his abilities because he was the one who killed him, hence the mark on his right hand. So as boruto develops, so will his ōtsutsuki powers
