I don't know very much about BTS's band members or anything BTS-related other than I enjoy their music. But this documentary broke my heart. My sons are about their age, and as a mother I'd be devastated to see any child of mine subjected to such unrelenting soul-shattering treatment in their simple quest to chase a dream. Dreams are the most precious of currencies and deserve to be pursued without the stain of prejudice. This ARMY of theirs is probably the only thing that keeps them going in their darkest hours. Thank God for loyal fans.

Their homeland treat them waay worst than this. Even after they won the grand prize (it s called Daesang). The korean show literally let them IN FRONT of TOILET as their place to rehearsal (cz the show didn't give them a place, even to exchange their clothes!). Not to mention the harsh treatment off camera (that left trauma, until now. Even for strong leader like RM of BTS)

Thank you! I am a 60 year old ARMY and mother. Often the general public doesn’t understand the bond between BTS & ARMY. I feel like an Auntie where they are concerned and any negative ordeals they go through are heart wrenching. I also feel pride and joy when they happy and achieving their goals. If there is a group who doesn’t deserve this treatment, it is BTS. BTS are such a gift and positive influence for young and old alike. BTS have fans reading literature, learning languages, appreciating art, studying psychology and Greek Mythology, giving to worthy charities, working harder to meet their goals, and loving theirselves. All this is included with having music that we love, dance to during happy times, and lean on during hard times. There is so much more to BTS that the general public doesn’t understand unless they dive into the BTS community and world in effort to learn. Again, thank you for understanding.💜

"The army is probably what keeps them going in their darkest hours" They have outright said as much. In their special mv for Bulletproof: The Eternal there is even a part where one member, RM, is depicted as plunging underwater and just sinking down and down in this pitch black void until these purple lights depicting army are able to bring him to swim back up again.

Part of the issue is Bang Si-Hyuk himself. When he created Big Hit he openly stated he didn't like the system that the Idol industry had created and he wanted to do better. He from the beginning was rejecting the system that had been established for like 10+ years. So in the Big 3's mind, how dare this songwriter try to come into their space. But adding onto what was said during the Kin Yongdae segment, every time BTS was snubbed or hurt or disrespected, Big Hit pulled them from doing those things. Like after the hamburger thing with Jungkook and other horrible tv variety shows they had been on that's how we got Run BTS, Bon Voyage and In The Soop. Big Hit started making their own content which was further proving that BH and BTS didn't need the Big 3 who controlled the stations and news. So you have a company that let's their Idols have control over music and opinions over many things and you let them talk about more than the stereotypical girls and partying for almost every song and this is what you get. Young adults allowed to talk about issues that many in SK society wouldn't like mental health, school pressure, disparity in societal classes etc. We all like bangers and party songs but sometimes you need an Imagine or This Is America along with your Cell Phone Bling and W.A.P.

I still remember bawling my eyes out when they lost their grammy this year and the first thing they said was "let's work harder" It was so heartbreaking that they in any way think they were slacking when western artists don't even do 10% of what they do but get put up there. bts has to work 100x harder for what gets handed to western artists

I know. I remember when Suga was talking about Dark & Wild and he said that was the first time he realized effort didn't guarantee success. They work so hard, but I really don't know what it's going to take for BTS to really breakthrough in the US to where they are accepted by the general American public and not just American ARMY. Probably a collab with Justin Bieber or another huge American artists might do it.

The Korean mainstream industry hated BTS for what they stood for. Traditional idols are expected to be perfect. They are not allowed to speak about politics or any personal opinions publicly. BTS came out of the gate professing their opinions through their music. They spoke up about LGBT rights, against the Korean school system, the economic hardships of Korean youth, etc. Add to that they are outsiders in the Korean music industry. No one wanted them to succeed.

21:54 "What was the pushback?" The answer is the same for both in South Korea and in the US, and while it looks like racism and xenophobia, it really isn't. The crux of the matter is that BTS rose to the top, and is sustained purely because of their fanbase, and not from any media power. SK's media is largely controlled by the other larger labels, and they were pissed that no matter what they did, they were not able to control BTS' popularity. They tried hard to control the media narrative to focus on their own bands. It's the same with the US. If BTS was owned by a label that was American, and they benefitted and profited from them, it would have been a very different story. BTS has been held down because they didn't need the media power that would typically be used to popularise other artists or bands.
@ystrw
@ystrw 3 жыл бұрын
There is significant racism and xenophobia, though, and several other kinds of phobia as well. You just have to listen to some of the detractors talk- on the air- about 'that lesbian girl group' and 'what's a [Korean] group doing on an American award show?' 'Do any of them even speak English?' 'You can't even tell them apart.' 'They've all had dozens of cosmetic surgeries', and other filth like that to hear it. ARMYs do tend to fly off the handle at a perceived insult, but that's because there've been so many intentional race-based and ethnicity-based insults.

Well said. I would also like to add that, in general, boy or girl bands aren't very respected in the industry in terms of prestige. People usually think they make crop love songs and that's why they hardly win any kind of awards, let alone Grammies. I'm not just taking about K-Pop, I'm talking about any bands in the Western culture. One Direction never won a Grammy, they hardly won any awards even though they were the biggest Western boyband in recent history. Unfortunately, people don't just listen to the music and let it speak for itself. They have this preconceived notion about what constitutes as a boy-/girlband, probably from how it was in the 90s/early 2000s, and they haven't moved on since. They're missing out on a lot of great music!
@maddy6316
@maddy6316 2 жыл бұрын
yes, going against the media's control is certainly part of it BUT it's ignorant to say that "it really isn't" racism... there are more than enough clear examples of that racism in the media and from first time reactors. it doesn't have to be an intentional decision for it to still be systemic - it's just ingrained in our society and that's why there are so many people making derogatory comments specifically about bts' ethnicity. just consider for a moment how kpop is consistently portrayed in western media as an industry full of dark awful secrets, despite many of those secrets being the same as western music industries. it's also impossible to say w any certainty that it "would have been a very different story" if bts was owned by an american label - consider the fact that the number of popular asian american artists is incredibly, shockingly small. this isn't bc there aren't talented asian americans, but bc the many talented people aren't being signed or supported in the states. racism and xenophobia cannot be removed from a discussion about bts' struggles, bts themselves have spoken out on this matter.

I still remember the time when fans had to post pics of bills as proof to show that they buyed bts album to prove bts album sales. It has been said at those years that big agencies tied along with media tried every possible way to bring bts down , when they saw that bts was getting more popular than their kpop groups. It wasn't just done by other kpop groups fans but companies were also involved. SM even tried to buy bts from bighit , so that he can control them and his company group can shine more. I think the "push back" that BTS receives in Korea comes from the media and institutions who believe they are "gatekeepers" of success. You are required to pander to and please them in order to be allowed to be successful, but BTS circumnavigated them all by creating their own content and connecting directly with fans, and in forging this new path, became bigger and more successful than anyone before them who did go through the "proper" channels. They've set a precedent, and so the media actively works to bring BTS down as a desperate ploy to maintain the illusion of how important and powerful these institutions are supposed to be. Basically a petty and vindictive 'you-may-have-succeeded-without-us-but-we-can-still-bring-you-down' agenda. I believe it's part of the reason why BTS is adamant about doing their military service, because if they don't, it's a noose around their neck with the media, as it's only a matter of time before something they do isn't as successful as the last and then the media can play the "they got to shirk their duty as Koreans for this?!" card which I'm sure would break their hearts. Honestly, Koreans should be furious at the media for it because this ridiculous bullying isn't affecting BTS in any meaningful way, but it's going to have a significant impact on the Korean economy when BTS does do their service. The sheer amount of money they bring in, even throughout covid, is mind blowing and there's no way to maintain that while they're doing their service.
@cyann410
@cyann410 3 жыл бұрын
Yet again, today, BTS was given a token nomination by the Grammys. For Butter ? No, best pop duo only. They broke records and blew the charts away with Butter, but did it get a nomination for best song ? Of course not. I hate the politics of the Grammys, and I hope they win this, and then they can turn their back on the Grammys, who just use them for views. BTS has nothing to prove anymore. The only thing they have not achieved is a f-ing Grammy, but they don’t need one to prove their success, and talent.
@ystrw
@ystrw 3 жыл бұрын
Regarding the service, attitudes in Korea have shifted quite a bit over the past two years, and the majority of public (Korean) opinion tends to agree that BTS should be exempted. I see it all the time on K-channels like K-pop Shock, Cartoon Messenger K-Pop, and K-Pop tube, both in the content and in the comments. 'Even if you don't like them, you should agree they've earned exemption,' or variations on it, is a very frequent comment. The Cabinet is supposed to have another discussion/decision about it on the 25th- Thanksgiving Day here- and since July, quite a few ministers (esp the Minister of Culture) and various advocates have been pushing hard to get K-pop idols who have made outstanding contributions to the country's prestige exempted. M.Culture went on record saying he considers BTS's achievements more than equal to a gold medal- a very pointed remark. And last night President Moon publicly congratulated them on their AMA win (from The Blue House account) and made another pointed reference to the excellence of their 'soft power' in bringing Korea honor and prestige. So, we shall see what comes. Maybe full exemption, maybe partial exemption with alternative service, maybe reduction of time served...maybe none of the above. : / I suspect the scheduled press conference on the 28th has more to do with that than with an album or tour date, to be honest.

They are experiencing it again, what happened in South Korea. People in the industry looking down on their talents, thinking that they are just pretty boys and that they will not last long. The Grammys are using them to get views. Specially knowing BTS wants the award. They are being smart using BTS, but they are belittling these seven men and Big Hit( HYBE] In that process. ARMY has gotten bigger, you have no idea that the person you are working with or have met is a silent ARMY. They will support BTS. We don’t know If someday BTS’s hard work and ARMY’s support might change the Music Industry in the USA.

This is why people applaud and praise how far BTS have come. They started with nothing from a company that had virtually nothing. Yes, other groups at the time work hard (and new groups continue to work hard as well), but they often had a company name to back them up. So when other groups debuted, they had a huge company that already had so much money and so much fan attention that they had already garnered tons of success. BTS had none of that so they had to work EXTRA hard, incredibly hard. I really love these guys 💖
@yeoljeongbts5296
@yeoljeongbts5296 3 жыл бұрын
17:50 to add some further Korean context to this debate you're having here. During these earlier years the onus of Big Hit's success & ability to debut groups later on down the road meant BTS had to play the industry's game. They HAD to endure the mistreatment, attacks, & forever be the ones to bow down & be humble because if they didn't they would be dooming their future hoobaes (junior groups) before they could even debut. Most groups rely VERY heavily on their sunbaes (seniors) in their respective companies to support & help promote them after they first debut & if BTS burned those bridges so to speak then that basically meant bankruptcy for their company & disbandment for them. So bear this in mind that this was the burden they were carrying during those first few years on top of the hate & attacks. They had to tread VERY carefully in order to ensure Big Hit stayed afloat & their hoobaes had a chance to even debut.

Exactly! And not just their juniors but also their staff. Everyone in their company was doing hard work. If they made a wrong move, people in their company who went on this journey with them will also suffer. Being responsible for other people's future is a huge burden for them to bare and continue to bare. That's why them artist singing about toughness dissing them just seem irrelevant to how strong BTS is compared to them.

9:00 A big part of what's absurd about those criticisms from my POV as a Black American, is that those were South Koreans attempting to define & limit access to Hip Hop culture. Who appointed those guys to be the Hip Hop Police? There's a whole conversation to be had around cultural appropriation vs. appreciation, as well as a separate-but-closely-related discussion about machismo, misogyny & homophobia. I'd also throw in the meanings & merits of authenticity and what they mean in relation to notions of, "toughness," and street credibility. All of that, though, is an ongoing discussion within Hip Hop and some random barely-established rappers from S. Korea were no more qualified to render judgments than anyone else. Bottom line is, most real old heads will tell you that as long as someone approaches the culture with respect and is willing to pay their dues; they're welcome within Hip Hop.

@@koreaRM0613 Please, don't be embarrassed. No, S. Koreans don't get to define what Hip Hop is - they don't own it. However, the point is that nobody does. Most Black Americans don't think Hip Hop is only for us, because we're confident enough to share our culture with the world. A culture, by the way, that was birthed out of peoples' resilience in the face of enormous adversity, much like Koreans & your culture. We are brothers & sisters in struggle & triumph.

also another thing about the "i dont understand what theyre saying so im not going to listen to it" thing, is that how do americans think the rest of the world that doesnt speak english listens to music? do you think that people from non-english speaking countries only listen to songs in their native tongue and wont listen to songs in english or other languages that are popular or play on the radio just because they may not understand fully what every word in the song means? NO thats why im so confused about when americans say this, they think theyre the only country that exists in this world, it gets to me tbh

Some songs of them show why BTS and ARMY are so affectionate. MOVE, SEA are songs about themselves having a hard time(As you know, BTS is from a small company that almost went bankrupt, so they have been very looked down and hated by Korean broadcasting stations and other K-pop fandom.), and 2!3! is a song to comfort ARMY who have struggled and been hurt to protect BTS. I’m a 60 yr old ARMY, BTS has & will always inspire & strengthen me. They brought me comfort & joy in times of trouble, sickness, loneliness & anxieties. They enlighten me when i was facing cancer, their songs and their videos and messages and how they treated older ppl heals me. U know why ?.. bcs their songs are all about self love, unity, diversity, kindness, and knowing your rights. Unlike western TOXIC music that sells drugs/violence/sex/cheap love trying to be over cool or sluti with lots of swearing and cheap useless lyrics. Bts are like my virtual sons. Ive never been a fan of any artist before in my life, but bts really strikes me at heart, I never missed their concert eversince they debuted. Even for someone with so much financial freedom like me I totally respect them, i can relate to their struggles to make it to where they are. I pray they will keep on growing & stays healthy & Happy. Make up are part of asian culture, it is very common for male to use make up when performaning or on TV. Dont all celebrities male or female all uses make up when on Tv or movie?… so what’s the big deal. I think we have a lot to learn from these 7 young men, they are cultured, well mannered, talented, kind & generous ans funny. Their had endured so much pain & struggles, d least we could do is wish them well instead of being jealous & hating them for no apparent reasons just bcs they are not white. I'm really pleased they've been nominated for a Grammy but I think it's extremely American biased going by the nominees and music snobbery reigns therein (the AMAs are awarded by fan votes globally)! Let's hope BTS wins their category and the changes to the decision making methods give them a chance, as they so deserve it.

So why wouldn't they have put them in together for 'My Universe' seeing as how other artist's collaborations were there. I really believe that 'Scammies' is using them for click bait again. BTS and BigHit were changing the status quo, was the problem. It wasn't necessarily just that they were more successful than the Big3 groups, but that they weren't playing by the rules. BigHit stood behind BTS and as much as possible, tried to not send them back to shows that have made them uncomfortable or tried to humiliate them: variety shows were dropped almost entirely because of this, music show have gone down to the bare minimum they consider they need - if at all. With no access to traditional media to promote themselves, they created their own shows, promoted heavily on KZbin, up to this point where they have their own online media platform that hosts their shows, etc. They talked about subjects considered taboo for idols, such as mental health, politic undertones in lyrics, etc. BigHit allowed BTS to be real in their lyrics, to participate as much as possible, none of which was common at that point. So the industry had on its hands a group that wa not sticking to the rules, and a company that was throwing the rulebook out the window. Instead of begging to have BTS accepted on a show or pay their way into it, BigHit said "fck off" and went to do their own thing. And it grated on the major players in the Korean Music Entertainment- and still does - because they have no finger in the pie. And to see BTS rise so high despite everything - they are MAD, mad =))) Meanwhile BTS stay winning, the South Korean President sings their praises, their contribution to the SK economy isi being measured in percentages of the country's GDP - at that point, you're honestly at a completely different level =)))

It makes it worse knowing these KIDS got hate and death threats. Makes it even more sad and wrong. As for Lucas's question around 20:03, it's very competitive over there, the idol scene. Awards are calculated using streaming numbers & votes accounting for the majority of points. So fan wars are a real thing. It's important to note though that the groups usually tend to like one another and have no issues, but the fans can get really toxic. (Not all groups are chill with each other but the majority usually are.)

He does the work that so many western reporters don’t when researching and explaining BTS and Kpop. He encapsulates so well how truly phenomenal BTS is in the Kpop industry, the pop industry, and the music industry as a whole. It helps that with how well he does his research, he shows so much respect for eastern concepts and their impact on the western world. It’s beautiful. Just thinking back to the way the used to be treated ( and still are ) makes me cry over and over. BTS are the definition of hardworking, dedication and devotion. When the whole world tried to shun them down they stood their ground and there were times where they thought of disbandment and just giving up, but they reminded each other to not. They are more capable then they think they are. These “ little Korean boys “ are standing on top of the world and I wouldn’t have it any other way. They paved the way to greatness and success with nothing but each other. Staying countless nights with no sleep, food and lack of energy. They fought and taught us how to never give up , never let the world shut you out and push you to the ground. They are and will forever be the greatest roll model this world has ever seen. They made mistakes and learned. I’m utterly grateful to be called an army and get to see the love they have for us. We really don’t deserve them. And us as armys will defend them and protect them when the world fails to. My love for them is unreal that I don’t believe it sometimes, they helped many and are still willing to help, they really don’t know how precious they are. I pray they don’t lose their lights.

Yes. You HAVE to know the hardships to understand ARMY, and You have to understand ARMY to understand why BTS are BTS. There's a very strong sense in which BTS and ARMY are symbiotic, because they have grown together, and have BOTH faced calumny - unfairly - and still do - witness, the "15-year-old girls", "LA concerts sold out?", and "We are here to be with ARMYs you know, the real people, not the AIs, not the bots" incidents that RM addressed with such humour this week.. To some extent it's hard to really understand why the early criticism mattered so much, but if you remember that Korea is very much a "know your place" society, and it is VERY structured and hierarchical, with conglomerates having as much or more power than the government, and being to a large extent above the law, ... well, you get a flavour. Thanks for reacting to BTS. Today, BTS is one of South Korea's pride. Recently, BTS were appointed as "special presidential envoy for future generations and culture" by South Korean President Moon Jae-in around first week of September. Each one of them are now legit diplomats and are holding a diplomatic passport. They just gave a speech (their 2nd time) at the United Nations General Assembly last Sept. 2021. And now, they live in a huge house where all 7 boys equally owned and share. It is located in Hannam Hill, a high end location in SK. It's like the Beverly Hills in the US. They all have their individual properties but still they choose to live together for almost 10 years now. They are still the same humble and down to earth boys we all know since they debut. In their show Bon Voyage BTS and In Th e Soop you can see how humble they are. They still cook for their food (Jin and Suga usually does the cooking) and the rest of the boys would do their fair share in doing other household chores. They are just simple and domesticated when they are at home.

Western artists will never be as loved, honored, and valued as much as BTS until they get rid of the disgusting lyrics and visuals that are inundating our youth. Army is not made up of children and teens. The majority of us are grown adults who find their lyrics refreshing. We are the targeted consumer. We have the money and the power. For example, I’m flying my 18 yo daughter from South Carolina to LA for their concert. I also bought iHeart radio jingle ball tickets. I spent thousands of dollars just to see BTS twice. Would I do that for her to see Lil Nas X? Lizzo? Megan thee Stallion? Not in this lifetime. They do not hold any of the values that I, the money (wo)man, hold dear. BTS does. So, when BTS is criticized for being who they are, that just tells me they are doing something right. When you go up against the status quo and stay true to who you are and what you believe in, that is a global David destroying Goliath. That is a group I can get behind 💯.

However, that doesn't mean that she's listening to the wrong groups because she stands behind BTS just because they aren't a "Western" artist. She saying that she hasn't seen any that she would stand behind that are on the same level as BTS. There ARE other amazing artists out in the world but why does it have to come down to whether they're Western or Eastern or European or whatever other nationality a group is?? Why can it not just boil down to the music, which is what she's commenting on... as opposed to their race or where they're from. There are many Western artists I listen to. There's many European ones I listen to. I also happened to love BTS (the absolute best/most) but not because they're an Asian group or because I hate all Western groups. BTS is in the unique position they don't need the established order in the western and asian music industry to thrive. The passionate and big fan base they have will support them to success and The big companies are not only mad about their own artists (where they invested in) not winning they also miss out on the profit these super stars are generating. And once they got big , they also became a target for groups who want to use them for their own goals. The fact that the company and group have always strived to stay independant to protect their creative freedom really bothers the western music industry. Right wing factions want to use them as example for their twisted narrative, and racist individuals see h4ting on them as a show of devotion towards their backwards beliefs. In short: When they were small bts got trodden on by the classism of the established order of their homeland. And now they are big they still get used by xenophobic practices of the western music industry plus everyone wants to profit from them be it clickbait journalist, to opportunistic ytber, or even a political party spinning the narrative they want to convey. So yes army is protective. And yes some people take it too far without even knowing the reason. In a fandom of over 50 mln people there are those too. And for enduring all this plus the price of fame(loss of privacy and freedom to move where you want) just to keep making music that heals and inspires people is why ARMY loves them so dearly.

To understand why so much hate, why it is unrelenting even now when they are national treasures, you would have to understand Korean culture, Korean commercial culture and the entertainment industry as a whole. One aspect is the puritanical culture, one the one hand it gives us "clean lyrics" and an innocence in our idols but on the other hand, if the idol is not "perfect" then they get rotten tomatoes thrown at them. BTS was the MOST imperfect collection of artists. None of them other than Jin fit the Korean idol beauty or visual standard and so were rejected on that, they were seen as too ugly and dark-skinned to be idols and their country culture cannot till this day unsee that and they are still viewed as undesirable because of this. You might notice that their images are white washed to have paler skin when they are in Korea but when they are outside Korea, most recently in the US they have beautiful golden natural skin tones. Jimin was bullied heavily for being "fat" which caused him to develop an ED at some point. From a business point of view, Koream culture once again, is hierarchal and strict adherence to this hierarchy is mandatory for everyone. For a small unknown company with ragtag idols to dare to compete with the big guns is near blasphemy; so every effort is taken to ensure this system is not disrupted. That's just how things work. Bang Si Hyuk's aspiration to buck the conventional norms of the industry when creating BTS and supporting their growth also contributed to the hate BTS received and continues to receive. So yeah, we are invested, we are emotionally attached to them and we are ride or die.

The White Paper Project was an amazing display of army's solidarity in protecting bts and correcting misinformation. Armys who specialized in academia worked together with army translators to publish a formal documentation. Aside from that, the rest of the fandom were actively defending bts on social media platforms. Global armys were sending love and support to bts AND Japanese armys because both kept getting hate around that time in Japan. To this day, if you mention November 2018 to any older army, they will tell you something along the lines of "we erased it from the calendar" because it was a painful month for everyone. If you were army back then and was active on social media especially on twitter, you received so much hate along with bts ☹

As an older army who was active on twitter back then, I can confirm that for me there was no month in between October and December in 2018. Or at least, I'd prefer to believe that. I still have trauma from that time and try to block it out. I'm still stunned, hurt and disgusted that other fandoms sided with those extreme right wingers in Japan against BTS just to attack BTS. The level of hate and poison... I still can't believe it. Those fandoms were trying to poison the media against BTS while armys were doing their best to correct the facts. I remember having '2!3!' on repeat back then for comfort and strength. I'm crying just remembering this much of it. I wish and pray with everything in me that BTS and armys never ever have to go through anything like that ever again.

Context is very important when it comes to bts and army and its truly a shame they way they're still treated as inferior and overrated when many don't know what it took to get here.

One word comes to mind when I think of BTS, and that word is RESPECT. They should be respected for their : 1-Talent ( dancing, singing, etc) 2-Their hard work 3- Their perseverance 4- Their humbleness 5- Their lyrics 6- The way that they’re involved in the production of their music 7- The way that they have dealt with their haters 8- Their brotherhood 9- For leaving their families at a very young age to pursue their dreams 10- The way they all acknowledge and love ARMY, even after so many years . I love these 7 kings ( cause that’s what they are in my book ), and I hope people will actually give them a chance ,by really listening to their music, instead of disregarding them just because they’re from South Korea . as a 2013 army who has been with them from their debut, i was here for all of this and ppl who weren't can't imagine how it was emotionally to go through all of these incidents one by one in person. yeah we are just fans watching through a screen, but man. a lot of these events were emotionally destructive to be around. when such talented and genuinely GOOD people like bts were unfairly attached, accused and hurt and you were a fan sitting in your room who shared such strong connection with them. just seeing these good people who helped you so much with their music get mistreated unfairly like this. the hurt and helpless frustration was immense. which is why army as a fandom is unique in its creed and mindset. bc we turned all our experiences, good or bad, into effort. 2013-2017 armys used to even have the motto that we'd, by force of will, make them the top so they'll be untouchable by all these industry politics. and we did it. radio has 0 say into their bb hot 100 #1 hits now and the industry is foaming in fits. the korean industry has 0 say regardless of them trying to throw themselves around. no one, absolutely no one besides bts and army have a say in their success and that's exactly what most ppl can't handle. all these institutions, industry entities, media and money going around that is so used to deciding the fate of artists have ZERO say in bts' carrier bc bts has their label they created brick by brick with their own hands and they have armys who are resilient, passionate, smart and are only here for them. we made music history together and we'll keep doing it regardless of what the industry, media or other fandoms have to say on it. and a lot of ppl can't handle that. majority of the vitriol comes from there.

7:24 Anytime someone from korea that's a rapper or started in the underground says this crap and claims that they aren't real rappers now that they're idols and "that's not hip hop or rap" as a black person I'm always like, "why don't you ask the people that rap came from. The originals of rap, the people that know the history and the true understanding of rap culture and actually lives it" SMH And I'd say BTS rappers have more of a claim to being authentic rappers then people from a place that only know rap from face value. BTS literally went to LA (compton and greenleaf) to learn about the history of and importance of hip-hop in the black community from WARREN G & COOLIO and others. They learned about how it started and the movements caused by hip-hop and the effect it had on black artistry and communities. RAP literally stands for "RYTHM AND POETRY"

All these “little incidents” might seem insignificant to some people, but the thing is bts always experienced those hardships, no matter their popularity, records or impact, like in 2019 (the inkigayo incident). This is so aberrant, like you would think they will be respected and treated better than in the past, but no… even to this day, BTS and ARMYs are still facing stupid hardships what else do they have to prove?

First of all let me say you're beautiful and you are enough. I really enjoyed the commentary from you and Lucas. It does not matter if it's 5 min or 55 minutes I will watch it. I was in tears already even 3 min into your video after you said why ARMY are protective of BTS. I'm still emotional thinking all the prejudice and hates that BTS are still getting despite of their popularity and success. Just look at the one Grammy's nomination they received again that was announced this morning is another example. I usually only subscribe to reactors who react to BTS only but I found you very genuine so you got another subscriber.

The sad thing is, veteran fans can watch this and still remember stuff that *wasn't* even included in this video. That is how much adversity and baseless hatred was thrown at BTS. I'm glad you are taking the time to familiarize yourself with their journey, so that you can better understand the relationship the group has with their fans. It isn't blind loyalty, but a connection that was forged through eight years of tears, mistreatment and disappointment -- but also out of many small and large victories, ans lots and lots of mutual love.

You Do You😎You have pretty eyes 👀, You have a great singing voice 🎶 Borahae 💜 The Big three basically run the music shows and media, and BTS were doing things that other K-Pop groups didn't do, like writing songs about socially conscious issues and real life experiences and concerns. Also, they were bringing back Classic Hip Hop to K Pop, and they were the only group at the time that were doing that. The larger they got, and the more global they got, they were dealing with racism and xenophobia. And they are still dealing with it, even at the level they are at today. Even ARMY's have been dealing with the same issues, being supportive of them. Good job with this reaction.

What’s insane to me is the fact that not only has the American music industry/media tried to shut them out and diss them (for obvious reasons) but these boys had to deal with their own people shutting them out and dissing them, like imagine that. Korean media has been so volatile, specifically in the past, and it’s funny that they’re all trying to get into BTS’ good graces now that they’re dominating the industry. They’ve endured so much discrimination in every aspect of the word.

First of all you can not stop singing the intro because I sing it with you! Secondly Lucas's hair is very pretty, there was no comparison there. I love the way Big Hit handles things. They are an amazing company and BangPDnim is a freaking a legend! He really tried to create a partnership with BTS and the other artists. They don't try to take advantage of them and wring every penny out of them. BH creates content that still allows their artists to grow, develop, and explore without over taxing them. BH even gave army a way to submit evidence when we come across malicious things on social media. And this last year they created their own New Years Live show that showcased HYBE artist in response to the on going fuss from that other New Years show. I'm pretty sure it's going to be come a new tradition. The show was fabulous with great performances, meet and greets with all the different artists and VODs that would highlight your favorite group. Bang has talked about how BTS went fruther than he ever expected. And Namjoon did kind of say the I don't care thing here in the US though. At the Granny a few years ago he said that his ears were itching because someone somewhere was hating on BTS. But that was okay because they have Army and we purple them and that is all they need. Sexy Namjoon!

Something that is not explicitly mentioned is that the big three companies have money in broadcasting companies and they have threatened to pull their money from the broadcasting company or have their artists boycott the shows on that station when groups or people they don't like are attempting to be on major shows. The biggest example of this is the way SM blocked the group JYJ out of as much of the industry as they could. I believe that recently there was a law passed to stop this from happening. Also you can fill most of the blanks with EXO or SM

The minute you made reference to other KZbinrs reacting to BTS just for the clicks, that you actually are a fan and love them, I subscribed to your channel, I watch a lot of reaction video’s and can tell the clout chasers from real people who praise BTS for their talent and really want to know who BTS is, I am a 54 yr old ( or will be in 20 days holy shit ) white American female who fell in love with their talent and fell down the rabbit hole and binged all content BTS has done, these 7 men are unlike any artist or group I’ve ever seen, they really do love ARMY and do so much for us it’s unbelievable, and they made ARMY into who we are, fierce, loyal, protective and loving, not just to BTS, but other ARMY’s as well, never have I seen fans of anyone ban together and be sometimes a life line, if you are having a bad day or week or whatever ARMY’s will come running to make you laugh, or lend an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, giving you support if you need it, I have met many great friends when I became an ARMY. If you attend a concert or any event for BTS you don’t need to be afraid to go by yourself because by the end of the event you will have made lasting relationships with other ARMY’s so you will never go alone anymore. I hate how cruel people have been to BTS and the individual members as well, I can not watch that ass be so mean to JK saying the food looked like left overs, he was only a 16 yr old kid who was trying to be nice and thoughtful by spending his own money to buy them food and drink, I can’t even talk about this it hurts me so much the look on JK’s face and asking why they weren’t taking the food, ugh have to stop. ARMY’s protect BTS, but BTS also protects ARMY’s
