So this is it. My very favorite story of Doctor Who ever, even now. :D It's like a perfect storm: high concept science fiction, a TARDIS team operating at their most natural and efficient, a script that respects the audience's intelligence, nods to horror with the skeleton in a spacesuit and vashta nerada, and of course the incredible introduction of River. The whole thing is like a dance, and when I recall the opening, "Close your eyes. Where are you?" "The Library" I shiver with how perfectly the acting and writing combined. I remember back when this first aired, we were all utterly tantalized by River, too, the same as you were. I actually wrote a graduate English Lit paper on this story (on the theme of narratives that subvert our expectations of visual storytelling language) and my professor wrote that it made them want to watch Doctor Who! Can't wait to see your reaction to Part 2. Glad that it sounds like you like it too. :)

River is my favourite character. I love her!! And her story line is incredible! Some scenes here, like when River is asking if the Doctor knows her, are sad. We know it's sad we just don't quite yet know why. And especially in these two episodes, the Doctor doesn't really know how to handle River XD What to make of her. She is confusing to him (and to us). She is very different. River already knows a lot more than the "normal" people that the Doctor meets.

Episode introduces a new location (the Library), new major characters (River), new baddies (Vashta Nerada), new lore about the Doctor (River being in the Doctors future+ writing all their adventures in the diary) and technically a new Doctor*, all out of the blue in a mid-series story. Gotta love the proper planning out of this. * Back in 2008 and (as of 2023 at least), unofficially, RTD & Moffat both considered & headcanonned that Dr.Moon was the Doctor in the Future. And going as far as- if David Tennant was the 10th Doctor then Colin Salmon/Dr. Moon was the 45th Doctor.

@user-ij3cz2xs4v Clara is correct. I experimented with a few different formats in the beginning, but the current format is that she show footage plays normally for 30 seconds, the it continues without audio and with a blur filter for the duration of the episode. I do have a countdown timer to help you know when to hit play on your copy of the episode, and then a count-up timer so you know exactly where you are in the episode/reaction in case you need to pause it or stop it and come back to it later.
