This is a reaction video of Fotheringay featuring Sandy Denny singing "Banks Of The Nile". The song is a traditional folk song which Sandy sings with a slight Celtic accent. The instrumentation is very minimal with two electric guitars repeating chords, soft drums that do louden at key points in the lyrics and a bass guitar that is played slowly but follows its own rhythm. This is a song that your mind can get lost in. Enjoy ...

Ey up Todd. Thank you so much for playing my recommendation. As usual, your critique of the song is spot on and incisive and once again, despite me knowing this song for over 50 years, I have learned something from you notably in the way the bass and drums are used. I think that this is a song which grows on you the more you listen to it, I've heard it hundreds of times but listening to it just now was still a treat. For me one other song has this quality and that is Gordon Lightfoot's 'Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald'. Anyway Todd once again thanks for reacting to my recommendation. Keep on truckin' mate.

Hi Speed ... Your request was a super recommendation. I really liked the song and Sandy's voice was incredible. Gordon Lightfoot ... Yes "Wreck" is a great song as Gordon has a great many a wonderful tune. May need to do some Lightfoot in the future. Thanks for bringing him up. Take care my friend and keep rockin' ...

I stumbled upon this and Sandy Denny by chance on here maybe 11 or 12 years ago and this song is one amongst a few by various artists which I fairly regularly return to when I'm feeling reflective or indeed in need of a lift. Sandy's voice glides effortlessly and with the instrumentation, subtle but occasionally intricate, all of which slowly builds with the story being told. Perfection in my eyes. There's unfortunately so little footage of Denny performing, a handful of songs solo on a BBC recording, 4 tracks of Fotheringay which now appear to have vanished from YT from The Beat Club on German TV plus a couple of others; a shame, as she was a fantastic talent and personality. The lead guitarist on this is the excellent Jerry Donahue, with Trevor Lucas also on guitar, Pat Donaldson on bass and Gerry Conway on drums. All except Donaldson were also members of Fairport Convention for relatively short periods of time although Conway was the last to join that group and was the longest lasting in it.

But the lyric says that the Queen she gives command - there was no Queen on the British throne during the Napoleonic Wars

The pathos of politics & history are beautifully expressed in the title song "Fotheringay", which was the castle where Mary, queen of Scots spent her final days.

its the name of the band - it's not the title song - that song was on What We Did On Our Holidays by the Fairports

The purest female voice I've ever heard is Alison krauss. I've seen her in concert twice, once with the "Down from the Mountain" tour of Bluegrass artists and again on a cold October night in Boise's Outlaw Field concert venue, so cold that Alison, the band and fans wore stocking caps and gloves! Listen to her Country hits with her band Union Station and her duets with Robert Plant.

Hi Rob ... I have several Krauss albums on CD and the Robert Plant album on vinyl. I like how her and Robert's vocals work together. You wouldn't think so, but they do ... Rock on ...

Not a lot to work with melodically here, so the dynamics are everything. It's beautifully done. Nothing More is a great song from the Fotheringay album.
