Just so you're aware, this is one of their LESS silly songs. Highly recommend you hear 'Masters of the Galaxy' or 'Land of Unicorns', the former being about an army of darkness from the future with the latter being about zombie laser unicorns.

I think a big part of what makes this video so hilarious is - as you said - the completely straight and serious way they act it, no matter how ridiculous it is. Absolutely brilliant

Of the five band members, only the singer, Thomas Winkler (aka Angus McFife XIII, Crown Prince of Fife) is of Swiss origin. The others are all British: - Paul Templing, aka Ser Proletius, Grandmaster of the Deathknights of Crail (guitar) - James Cartwright, aka The Hootsman, Astral Demigod of Unst (bass) - Ben Turk, aka Ralathor, the Mysterious Submarine Commander of Cowdenbeath (drums) - Christopher Bowes, aka Zargothrax, Dark Emperor of Dundee (keyboards) The band's lore takes place in a fictional version of Fife, a kingdom in Scotland. Other songs by this band to check out: - The Unicorn Invasion of Dundee - Angus McFife - Rise of the Chaos Wizards - Apocalypse 1992 - Gloryhammer - Power of the Laser Dragon Fire - And everything others have already mentioned.

THANK YOU THOMAS! HAIL HOOTS! It doesn't really matter in which order you want to react going forward, they only have 4 official music videos and a few lyrics videos. But it's worth listening to the albums in order to get the entire story, beginning with "The Unicorn Invasion of Dundee". Their live performances are amazing too!
@ThomFoolery14 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mariko! Yeah, I'm definitely keen to hear the concept albums and understand more about the stories.

Fun fact - some accuse Gloryhammer of stealing the rhythm and riffs from Alestorm "Drink" - its almost identical true, but they have the same song writer (and i think guitarrist) so...its not stolen. The guy who made it is in both bands Also "An episode of Startrek on Acid" - great quote

There is a story that is told across their 3 albums, culminating in The Fires of Ancient Cosmic Destiny (my favorite song of all time). Angus McFife is the hero of the story played by the lead singer Thomas Winkler, while Zargothrax the evil wizard is played by the keyboardist and songwriter Chris Bowes. Angus has sworn revenge against Zargothrax for invading with an army of undead unicorns and kidnapping the princess. In the first album he gathers 3 artifacts, the hammer of glory which he is seen carrying, a golden dragon as a steed, and the amulet of justice, to defeat Zargothrax and save the princess. The second and third album are just as wacky.

The story that continues through the 3 albums is absolutely amazing. I know it's a lot of work so I'd totally understand if you didn't want to do it, but if you wanted to make 3 extra long videos (one for each album) listening to their entire discography, so you can follow the brilliant story, it would be amazing.

FYI, the keyboardist who formed this band, Christopher Bowes, is also the keytar player and vocalist for the Scottish pirate metal band Alestorm. Seriously check them out if you like pirate themed, sea-shanty type, catchy, but ultimately funny pirate metal with scottish accent. \m/

So I’ve been loving the shit out of nightwish for a year, but not being a headbanger I was always skipping over these other bands. Now I’m going back and watching them, wondering why I was such a dumbass to skip them in the first place. They’re all great in their own way. I’ll admit I like more understandable lyrics ( god I know I’m getting shit for that ). I’m not against screaming and growling I just like a mix. I think it’s why I’m so hooked on symphonic metal, because it covers everything. Each band had something the others don’t. Or they do but it’s in a different way. Even the silly ones are entertaining as hell. It’s wicked cool to get exposed to shit I would never have found on my own. Christ we only knew the bands we saw live or that our immediate friends listened to. So for me it was always like “hey the pixies have a new album “ so you’d run to Newbury comics and grab a cassette tape and literally play the music off of it. It’s not like anyone was saying “hey there’s this awesome band from Sweden“. 😂 This thing the internet, the doors to walk through are endless. It’s about the only thing I envy that my kids have that I didn’t.
