I like that they’re not ‘smooth’ or ‘easy’. They have songs only ITZY would do. I actually used to not like their music but one day I had an epiphany and now I really love them. Itzy has their own style and they stick to it. I appreciate it, they're very different from Dreamcatcher for instance but both groups have made a unique style set to them and that's why I like it.

I think Sera is getting at something different here. I'm guessing it's because some of the musicality and melodic choices for this song are rather unique and artistic than a more catchy melody. Such a song would invite more mixed feelings among the public leading to less sales/recognition and all that. That's why she says it's a good song, but she's a bit worried about its reception because it's a bit more abstract

Most viewers go in reaction channels to get a feeling called "social acceptance", that's when you need to see someone else agree with you just to validate your own feelings. It comes from insecurity. If the reaction channel doesn't have the same opinion as the viewers, they will often see the reacting person as an enemy and there's very high chance they will never come back to the channel. This is very common in the kpop (and pop) fandom since most people want to listen to the most popular thing instead of having their own taste. They want to belong and "be in", that's why the gap between top and bottom groups is gigantic in popularity and microscopic (or even completely reverse) in talent. It's basically a vicious cycle of fakeness that spreads cancer all over artistic integrity forcing many groups to do the same thing that already worked just to keep the same fanbase rolling in their pockets (for example BP's HYLT is the same composition formula already used in a bunch of their other songs). And this is exponentially easier to do in a country with such a narrow musical perspective.

@@charred6683 I feel ya, dig BP, RV, and Loona but in no way do I call every song a bop or 🔥 I won't call any channels out with their fakey reactions (99% of them) but to me as a fan of Girl crush concepts. This Itzy tune is not dynamic and production is very lazy. I got a 15 inch Sub and this track barely hits/slaps. I hope for better on their next release.

I was expecting comment that idols don't usually drive in music videos. There are scenes where you can see that this is not graphics or editing. The magic of Kpop is that they did what the US used to do. The whole world listened to English songs without even knowing English. Nowadays people also listen to Korean songs. The main thing is that the song is good, music is a universal language. If a song is not understandable for English speakers and for Koreans, but still becomes popular, this will only prove how good the song is.

People said that about Dalla Dalla and Icy as well. I think that is just their style, in fact I feel this song is easier than those two (although Wannabe was the most mainstream track). What'll end up happening is a very specific group of people who enjoy this style will become hard core Midzy and the rest of the fanbase will either gravitate to their B sides or just come and go as they put out more mainstream hits

I'm the opposite I prefered ICY and Not Shy to Dalla Dalla and Wannabe. Not Shy is the first itzy song I liked on the first listen. But it's definitely not as kpop sounding as wannabe was. I feel like a western gg could have come out with not shy. In a way I feel like HYLT is also like that, which is why I wouldn't be surprised if Not Shy gets itzy a lot of exposure globally despite not winning as much.

In order to appeal to "easy ears," the music will have be "mainstream," which I don't believe is the direction Itzy is heading. Popular Music genres can come in many colors and flavors but personally I like itzy because they do their own thing, setting up their own unique colors.

Nah, the song could simply quit the repetitive trap music that drills the ear the entire time and it would be easier on the ears. This has nothing to do with style. Every other ITZY title tracks have more flavor, more fleshed out composition, a wider variety of sound, and they're all easier on the ears. To put it simply, their previous songs are better made than this one and that's why it's harder on the ears.

@@CK-kd5pn Not sure what you mean by easier? You mean better composed? Every previous ITZY title tracks have a more fleshed out musical composition and wider range of sounds than this one. The only thing that's "less easy" in Not Shy is the fact that it's the same repetitive trap beat drilling you the entire time, that's lowkey what Sera meant. It technically does not have a better composition and it mathematically has less instrumental going on.

She mentioned that she would've preferred if the song were a bit easier for the public and it's slightly too difficult to her ears. I'll explain what this means in a bit but first, I'll comment on some points you made. Better composed, yes. Also, previous itzy title tracks did not have more fleshed out compositions because it was too varied. Itzy is known to have unexpected changes in their music in previous releases that people always complain about lacking cohesion. Having different musical ideas and creating different melodies isn't something complex, and does not translate to a better composition. It can actually be pretty messy and disjointed. A real compositional challenge in music is thematic development with originality as the goal. Pop is a bit different because it has repetitive structure with verses, pre chorus, and chorus usually present more than once. The key to cohesion and originality is to take a theme and develop it in different ways so it does not feel boring to the ears. In the case with pop, originality is usually achieved by tweaking some parts while maintaining a repetition (in its most basic, generic form). Not Shy is still pretty out there but it's better connected comparatively in its musical ideas. Now that I've explained what makes this a better composition (not necessarily a better song because that's up to opinionated preference), I'll explain the "easy" comment. I think you mistyped a bit and intended on saying the trap beat was what made this song easier rather than less easier, though it's confusing because Sera's point was about how the song was more difficult to the ears than easier. The reason why she says this is because of the musicality of the song. Yes, it's good but the musicality and melodic choice of some parts are rather more artistic/abstract for lack of a better term. It lacks the catchiness previous tracks had and that's what worries Sera because it might invite mixed reviews. The goal of pop music is to get a lot of people to listen and like it in order to make more sales. Though some people might like it, it might not be as appealing for more people without a few listens because of the rather unique melodic vocal lines.
