Reaction - "Lonely Teardrops" by Jackie Wilson on Ed Sullivan (1962)

Aired May 27, 1962, this is a terrific performance by Jackie Wilson on Ed Sullivan. The energy level makes you think he's plugged into an electric socket. Meanwhile my biggest takeaway from this way that Jackie reminds me both of Elvis and Sammy Davis.

This is a perfect illustration of one side of Jackie. If you want to see the other side check out his performance on December 4th 1960 singing Alone At Last on The Ed Sullivan Show. On the Elvis Side of things they were actually the best of friends getting together when their tour dates matched up. They would usually end up at Elvis’s room singing gospel songs and reminiscing about the early days of their careers. There’s a great video/audio of a Sun Records recording session with a bunch of guys in the studio playing around and talking in between takes. At one point Elvis brings up this “ colored fella”😂 singing with Billy Ward and The Dominoes. Now this is 1956 , a year before Jackie went solo with the Berry Gordy tune Reet Petite in 57. He said he went down there three nights in a row and when Jackie started doing Elvis’s song Don’t Be Cruel he had to hide under the table. He said “Man he kept trying and trying until he got way better than that ole song of mine. I was like get him off get him off the stage. 😂. Their friendship lasted after Jackie became incapacitated following his collapse on stage in 1975. Elvis contributed a LOT of money to have Jackie put into a better facility offering care than what he was relegated to immediately following the tragedy in Cherry Hill New Jersey. It’s rumored that there was a trust set aside to continue sending money for his care after Elvis’s death in 1977. As far as Sammy Davis goes Jackie absolutely LOVED him and says he was always front row when he had a chance to catch his act

Wow, i didn't know any of this. Glad I'm not crazy thinking Jackie reminded me of Elvis.
