@KatsAndBees the graph shows the reaction from Reactants --------> Products in a Froward Reaction. When the energy of the reactants is higher than the products, it is an Exothermic reaction. Take note that when you subtract the 2 numbers (forward reaction) - PRODUCT- (minus) REACTANT, when the difference is negative, it is an exothermic reaction. If the difference is positive (+) its an endothermic Rx. The graph shown in this video is an exothermic reaction ( the reactant energy is higher).

Yes, you can cross out species on the left and right side ONLY IF they are produced on the right and consumed(used up) again on the right. They are what we wanna call the "intermediates". hope that helped.

@pSychOAtDawn -pokes 3:30+- If its not given you will probably have data to determine which steps are "fast" and which are slow. Or may have to acquire data through experiments.

@zacmiley12 we can assume this because the reaction takes the most time (it's the slowest) which means the it take the reactants a lot of time to overcome the Ea (activation energy) just remember high activation energy means reaction takes longer, smaller activation energy reaction takes longer

Actually, growing up as such had me in speech therapy for the first 14 years of life due to fact couldn't understand normal Americans. Why it is rather difficult to understand a foreign accent, much of that comes from the individual being unaccustomed to having to make a conscious effort to decipher what they're actually saying. It's a skill that is able to be learned if needed, most just chose to complain instead, mainly Americans.

because we know the steps that the reaction goes through and we can use slowest step to determine the rate. as opposed to the other method which uses expiremntal values to determine the rate. it's just two diffrent ways.

does anyone how to recognize the catalyst and the intermediate? since both do not appear on the final equation. idk how to distinguish them TT^TT
@abhisheknoba

B B I think catalyst already exist even before the start of the reaction, though intermediate, as written on the whiteboard, generated in one elementary step and consumed in another one. It sounds logical to me. Please correct if I am wrong. Take care !!

Bringing this back around to the original comment; I do not know where @Hedonistic21 is from, so I cannot say for sure that he/she chose to be difficult about her accent. And, even if he/she were American, it may be that they had not come across this subject before, and were having difficulty comprehending it due to the seemingly foreign terminology. Even then, he/she had the option of replaying the video, so I suppose you're right... They were probably lazy. :P

Not everyone on here speaks English as a first language. And given that these videos are available globally (or didn't you think fast enough to realise that?), you should know that the audience is much larger and way more diverse than what you are used to... meaning that not everyone (myself included) can keep up with this particular American-English dialect. ~ And she does tend to skip syllables when she speaks, so that might be another hindrance to some. Just FYI ;)

I completely understand. But, you seem to forget the fact that you are American. Your brain has adapted to understand your regional accents without much effort, because the phonetics are so much alike. Here's a parallel argument; an American-born person with immigrant Indian parents, will easily understand an Indian professor who cannot speak perfect English. Why? His immigrant parents have probably exposed him to their culture and languages, so his mind is well accustomed to "Indian English" :)

Good, but the Indian teachers are way better than her.If this lecture was taken inside a classroom , then there sure as hell should have been interaction between she and her students. Its not a tailored made speech she is up with.And FYI, catalyst is a substance which alters the rate of reaction , it does not necessarily increases the reaction speed, there are negative catalysts also available which hinders the rate.
@natelian79
@natelian79 10 жыл бұрын
Actually, a catalyst is a substance that increases the speed of a reaction by lowering the activation energy. There are no such things as negative catalysts; the thing you are referring to is an inhibitor which decreases the speed of a reaction by increasing the activation energy.
