Reaction - NightWish - High Hopes

I have read comments that say that the reason that the keyboard is slanted down like that is for ergonomic reasons, and if you think about it, that makes sense because Tuomas's wrists are straight with a keyboard setup like that, not constantly bent through an entire concert. The guitarist, Emppu, is a treasure. When he is playing, all his concentration is on the music that he is producing. When he is not playing, however, he can be a bit of a trickster. The other members of the band sometimes have to watch their backs, though he never does anything that would interfere with the music. He also loves to interact with the audience. And then there is Marko, with that voice, that has so many different colors. He pours his entire heart and soul into the songs he sings. There are many differences in this version and the original Pink Floyd version though Nightwish preserves the tone of the composition, adding their own touches. I do hope that you listen to the original on your own because it is beautiful also. I'm not enough of a musical expert to be able to describe the differences, but I will say that this is generally considered as a tribute from one great band to another.

This song especially was emotional for the band as this was the last concert they played together with the original singer Tarja. She was let go after this concert and they were all down in mood as they knew what they had to do after the concert.

I think you would enjoy hearing the original by Pink Floyd - as @WNYretiree writes, there are differences between the versions, the original is very recognizable as a Pink Floyd song, this tribute is very recognizable as belonging to Nightwish. David Gilmour, from Pink Floyd, loves their tribute. Also, you haven't reacted to enough Nightwish songs yet to see the impish side of Emppu. He's very focused when he's doing his solos, but he interacts a lot with the audience, including wandering to various parts of the stage to be close to them left, right, and center, and throwing them numerous guitar picks, and he interacts a lot with the other band members. He has a very infectious, mischievous smile. Marko, the singer/bassist, has had a long musical career with and without Nightwish. He has been and is a member of other groups and has collaborated with a lot of other artists. And yes, his voice is amazing. Thank you for continuing to react to Nightwish; I look forward to your next visit with them.

Horizontal keyboards were designed to be played sitting down. He's standing, so the keyboards are slanted to keep wrists straight.

Emppu, the guitarist is usually very focused during his parts yes.... but guess what... he is the prankster of the band ;) so keep your eyes on him, you never know where he shows up ;) Great reaction, looking forward to the next Nightwish rection already.

Love this version. Marko can Sang. FYI I got his book coming from Amazon. FYI Tuomas was a exchange student in the US and that's when he got into Metallica at onecof their concerts. It saves his wrists from strains. Emppu plays what is needed for the song

The PF version is more wistful and for me reflects a sadness of reminiscing of life. NW tribute is angrier and more brutal reflecting possibly regret.

You are not fair to Emppu (the guitarist). He is most funny and interacting as joker, pranker in the band. And his smile is actually "visit card" of the band. His face most changeable when he not plays his solos. You just have dont know this band well enough.

Tarja was fired after this concert, Annette Olson took over until 2012 then when she left we are now treated to the Valkyrie Goddess Floor Jansen (Greatest vocalist of all time)
