It makes sense that in Rick's weird, twisted mindset he would consider his attachment to Morty as "irrational" and a weakness in himself - which would therefore cause the machine to extract it alongside all his toxicity. That's why he experimentally slapped Morty across the face when he had his epiphany: he was checking whether his guess about this was right.

I just want to point out that neither version of Rick wanted any harm to come to Beth. Once Beth comes in, fight's over, Toxic Rick moves on to Plan B.

Cause that attachment isn’t irrational
@Merilirem3 жыл бұрын
@@Souledex Actually its because its both. If it was one or the other it would have been exclusive to one of the Ricks. The Toxic Rick had the irrational attachment and the normal Rick had the rational one.

Actually, this episode owes more to a classic Star Trek episode called "The Enemy Within," in which a transporter mishap splits Kirk into two halves, one "toxic" and the other "healthy."

Definitely one they should watch when they go back and watch some classic trek.

Not quite as much a direct draw as TOS, but the Voyager episode "The Thaw" also kinda draws on the same concepts.

The purple jelly babies are probably blackcurrant flavoured. Blackcurrant is an amazing flavour that's almost entirely absent from the American palate because black currents were banned nationwide from 1911 to 1966, and continued to be banned in many states until 2003 due to it being a carrier for a fungus that was killing off a certain variety of pine. Because of this, purple-coloured confectionery in the US has always tended to be grape instead of blackcurrant like it is just about everywhere else in the world. Because of _that_ most Americans haven't encountered the flavour and tend to expect purple to be grape flavoured and, due to that expectation, are put off by it. Some people never give it a second chance, which is a real shame because it's one of the best confectionery flavours.
@kageakuma30093 жыл бұрын
my guess for purple was grape, but then again I'm American. I have tried black currant and liked it, but dark grapes make me feel thirsty after eating or drinking artificially flavored dark grape stuff. (and before someone can make the joke I mean thirsty as in parched, not "excited", doesn't mean I dislike the favor I just feel the need to get water afterwards.)
@StarkRG3 жыл бұрын
@@kageakuma3009 Grape flavoured candy isn't common outside the US and Canada. If it's purple and isn't American, it's probably blackcurrant.

The ep gifts us with a pair independent quiet moments reacting to a word, Katrina at 4:50 (I've harbored a less cute association with the term so it hit different when you laughed, I like your reason for laughing better) and Paula at 6:53 , great ep :)

Rick love of Morty is a toxic?
@SebastianWeinberg3 жыл бұрын
No. As he explained, the extraction machine has no way of judging objectively what is and isn't "toxic", so it just extracts what the occupant _thinks of_ as their negative qualities. Rick sees his attachment to Morty as a kind of weakness and calls it "irrational" - and that's why it was removed.

i mean, sociopathy doesn't real, it's a made-up (i know everything is made up, stop being a coward and playing technicalities) out-dated term. being disassociated outside of selfishness isn't sociopathy, it's survival and coping (coping being more selfishness)
