I take it that the title is based on "Raising Arizona" the classic Coen brothers film starring Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter, which you definitely should have seen by now.

This episode is actually what Raising Arizona was based on.

The music, plus Nic Cage in a somewhat more subtle performance shines instead of his usual over the top hamminess, makes this a classic. I still love Mr Cages over the topness but seeing him being all deadpan and chill mostly is weird.

Trivia fact. "Dropping loads" is a reference to Dan Harmon's favorite male pornstar, he finds it hilarious that the pornstar has a catchphrase which is "DROPPING LOADS!", spoken at the moment of climax.

I definitely don't take any sexist remark made by Rick as an endorsement of those viewpoints by the show's writers. Rick is very intelligent, but he's also very stupid, which are not mutually exclusive concepts. I would argue that stupidity only exists in contrast to ones intellectual capacity, not as a reflection of it, and I think Rick has to some extent become Dan Harmon's mockery of his own past self as part of his process of self-improvement. The show doesn't always spell out what point it's trying to make, however. It has a lot of trust in its audience. Perhaps too much, judging by the oodles of stupid Rick fans who think he's some kind of role model rather than an example of the sort of person one should strive not to be.

I think some people, particularly certain superfans misunderstand what the show is saying about Rick. Yes he's super intelligent and on a different level of understanding the universe but he's very rarely ever portrayed as a hero or in the right. Rick not giving a shit about women not being treated well is more (IMO) his nihilism that none of this matters which to keep in character he has to believe that. But the writers and the show's point of view was definitely to get the audience to take the opposite stance of Rick on the issue. However it's a comedic show so they'll take their shots when they can with jokes like how they've abandoned a place because a spider lives there or the importance of fashion on the story. They're able to poke fun at stereotypes without (again IMO) demeaning the overall message. But Rick being the chara te he is and the show being what it is they don't pull punches and they generally tackle the issues they want to talk about bluntly and head on which I think can sometimes miss the mark for some viewers and come across as callous, when generally I think the point is to drop the pretenses and get to the point. Particularly knowing Dan Harmons and Justin Roilands POV to the extent that I do I dont think there was any intent on trivializing the cultural injustice of men and womens roles in society as perceived by far too many these days. Enjoyed the video and the discussion. Quickly becoming a channel I go out of my way to check for new videos.

To me the sexist jokes by Rick weren't meant to make fun about the gender debate in general but about the stubbornness and silliness of some of its ideas. He's not saying women aren't equal or shouldn't be treated the same way as men, but he's pointing out the hypocrisy of some of the debate. Take the Amazonian Rulers for example: They have constructed themselves a utopia for women without violence or harassment. But they didnt do it by making men and women equal but by overthrowing the patriarchy and taking its place as tyrannical rulers of their society. Which is what some men perceive as the goal of modern feminism (not saying it is, but some ideas surely aren' about "Equality" anymore). So Rick points out that they're just as bad as men were before them and challenges their world view, for which he's promptly sentenced to death, thereby proving his statements about the tyrannical nature. Hence, he the creators are in no way saying that women are worse or shouldn't be equal. Just that you need to recognize the differences between genders and come to a social agreeement how to solve the issues that are undisputably ther - and the best way to do this is to not take everything serious and sometimes just have some good laughs about immature fart jokes together.

Harmon has pretty much said this directly. He said that he toned down the apparent misogyny of Rick because some of the "fans" that they were attracting, and were using this bit of pop culture to justify their own actions and beliefs.

There's a segment of Rick and Morty fans that see Rick as someone to emulate or aspire to but they are completely off base. Rick is tragic. A man brilliant enough to use the universe as his playground but utterly crippled by his lacking emotional intelligence. As the show progresses it drives home how much this depressed egotistical man is selfaware enough to see his faults but is completely lacking the tools to fix them.

"I hope he's eating enough." It's a parent's concern about their child regardless of age from times immemorial. If they're not making remarks like "you look so thin, dear. Are you eating enough?" it means you've kept or gained weight since last time you've seen them - though the mother is the only one that will say something about it. If you're unsure if you look like you lost weight just visit your mom. The scale might be incorrect but a mother's eagle eyed vision and memory knows if you've dropped or gained even a pound.

Literally every single thing produced for public consumption is political. It has a take and it matters to talk about. Tbf rick and morty does a solid job of helping those 5% of edgelords realize some of their own bullshit but it also amplifies and hypes up the 95% who are fans and didn’t get it. It isn’t Dan Harmon’s fault people act like assholes when they were too stupid to get his point but it is important to analyze what the show is saying because LITERALLY EVERYTHING makes a statement and if it isn’t it just propagates apathy or the ptx of the squo

So youre bothered by Rick saying a couple of mean things about women, but him being beaten and treated like a slave for his gender alone doesnt even get brought up in the discussion. Oh geez guys im wondering who the sexist is, the mean guy or the people oppressing an entire gender to the point the males have been removed from society.
