Taylor showed up with a guitar in the first place; she learned on a 12 string because the salesclerk told her it was too hard. She plays several instruments to accompany herself; and she doesn't seem to fingerpick, she uses a hybrid picking pattern. And a lot of palm muting. Acoustic and electric guitar (and 12 string), 6 string banjo (ganjo?), piano, ukulele, and she wrote one of her songs on a dulcimer.
