Nothing is free... We pay it with taxes. But i think the Swedish way is better. The more people that can stay healthy, have a chance to get education and have hope for the future, the better the society works. At least i Believe that. One thing I appreciate as a swede is that we don't get to extreme politically. Even though I lean to the left I can still get behind some of the right's politics. Like this week when the yearly budget was released, I was against most of it, but it was nothing like in the US, where abortions are banned from week six, and democracy is in jeopardy if one of the parties win. It was the usual thing, where the richest get a tax break, and that's what the swedish rightwingers do when they get in power. We're pretty levelheaded, and even the political right in Sweden is to the left of the political left in the US. ;)

We also have high taxes. And still a lot is so unfair too. Like the fact that we have to pay a fortune to go to the dentist, whilst immigrants ( I believe even the illegal ones) get it for free etc. And our health care system is broken, and people have to wait for ages even though they're in serious pain or really ill.

You can not come to Sweden as an American and study for free. I found an article from 2017 that says that a non-EU foreign student pays on average 123 000 SEK per year to study here.

The birth rate in Sweden is not great, I don't know the numbers, but guessing it's 0.8. That's, partly at least, compensated by immigration. One thing he didn't mention is the freedom to roam law (I belive Scotland has something similar), which means you can go basically anywhere for a swim, pitch your tent and pick berries and mushrooms.

Birth rate is over 10 in Sweden, but im guessing you mean fertility rate. Still, you are way off, the actual number is between 1.6 and 1.7 births per women.

Swedish police officers are not the sharpest tool in the shed, mostly because the low salary doesnt attract societies best individuals. That said they have a 2 year education compared to a few weeks in the US, so off course they are better than that. I just wished they focused more on mental strength than physical strength.

Elderly people have worse dental health than people 18-35. They are also more prone to illness caused by bad teeth due to a weaker immune system. There’s absolutely no logic to why those with best teeth should pay less than those with bad.

Well there are very high taxes in Sweden, but I think most people don’t really know how much you actually get for your taxes, but in the new fiscal year they are lowering taxes and more fore incomes over about 7000 USD a month, it’s the right wing party’s coalition that won the last election but over all it sounds pretty bad in the US as far as education, childcare and medical services. But they on the other hand sure have things that’s better in the US, it’s like comparing apples and pears 🍐

We don't get anything - we pay tax AND people with many children "get" much more then they pay for because people without children also pay tax for their children. We pay for ALL with our tax: as roads, schools, school food, and so on. Wote for someone in your own country who'll take tax and you get the same.

The double money back if the meat goes off is a store-specific policy. It is not a law. The cost for traveling to healthcare if you don't have your own car or walk or take a bike is dependent on the region but you could call it "basically free". Here it is 200 SEK and there is a fee gap. I'm disabled and cannot go by bus so I get to go by taxi. I love the Swedish system and considering the personal ties I've had with Americans and just general empathy I have been distraught about what has happened. For example a nurse getting severely ill. She has health insurance through her job. Well. She gets really ill. The health insurance pay for the first thing. Then she doesn't have a job anymore. No health insurance. No real social services. She couldn't afford to go to the doctor and could afford the medicines. She had high-risk brain surgery (without insurance... I don't know how it got dealt with). Drove across several state lines to get to a big open place where they offer medical for people for free. (Bless them!). Had her perfect teeth all pulled out because of an infection. Had a serious illness that was so rare doctors hadn't seen it before in person. Was offered to be taken care of for basically free at a Hospital several states away. But she had to still pay a kind of copay she had no chance of paying for. I decided to go in there and pay for that part so she and her brother, who was taking care of her, would be able to go. Which made her not die. And that is one instance. Yeah. I've cried and felt so bad for people. And for strangers how people are treated like they are garbage. Society needs to fix that. Private donations just go so far. It should be part of the social contract in my view. If it is going to be a dog eat dog world you will see that desperation and behavior that is flowing through such a system.

Sweden has a tradition of taking care of its citizens and that has to do with people's mindsets, which are very different from the American way of thinking. Industrial villages (so called brukssamhällen) away from the big towns, where workers were better paid and well protected, had to care for their employees in terms of social activities, education, health care etc in a way that strengthened the togetherness in the society. Volunteers took care of the fire rescue, others joined the local defense force (hemvärnet), all of which made people care about one another, yet above all this there was democratically elected governments that watched over its citizens, perhaps too much in its ambition to create a "perfect" society.
