I had to laugh when he said there's no difference between a US and Canadian accent. I can pick the difference, and can even tell what state or province they're from. Everything he's praising is what I missed when I lived in Thailand and Vietnam. Walking off the plane onto Aussie soil again felt so good and stress free. I love this amazing land.

Yes, the accents are not the same, Canadians speak more clearly and quietly, and most have good manners! He is clearly from California!

Exactly... The Accents Are Cleary Different. American Accents Can Be Harsh, Louder & More Drawn Out & Do Not Pronounce Many Words Properly. The Canadians Are Softer Well Spoken & Words Pronounced Clearly Without The Twang...Prefer Canadians Voices & Speaking.

Born and raised in Brisbane. In fact I lived in Brunswick Street where he was walking. There is a huge change in Brissy, since I left, I don`t recognize the city at all.. It was always considered to be a large country town by Southerners. I was born in 1942, so the changes are incredible, still a lovely city.

Brisbane is different. It’s the hub to so much natural beauty. Rainforests and mountains.A massive bay full of islands. Rainforest. The River. It’s really a gateway to whatever experience you want. The people are mostly very nice. Decent transport options and services. Two botanical gardens to picnic at. A cultural precinct with a museum art galleries and world class theatres plus a convention centre, and that’s South Bank with free swimming facilities for all, and the cliffs and city as a backdrop.

I'll tell youse one thing that I believe makes Australia a nice place to live (as well as 2 million other things) is that the states are competitive which in turn provides in general a healthy, thriving rivalry which delivers an attractive lifestyle and as an older Aussie (mid 60's) I've become more and more aware of just how fortunate we are as a country, of course there are issues/problems but I do believe we are working toward solutions.

Living overseas in Vietnam and Africa has made me appreciate how beautiful Australia is. I live in the city next to a beautiful park, walking is easy with always having good pavements. I overlook all the tall buildings at the same time seeing nature. Temperature is not extreme in the past few years. I am in Melbourne, and everything is accessible by public transport. Thank you for your coverage of Australia. I went to Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur and I thought it was very modern and clean. Cheers Elizabeth

I am from Perth, WA. My partner and I had 4 days in Brisbane in March this year. We just loved the modern hotel, restaurants and facilities. However, on the other side we did enjoy seeing the beautiful old city buildings and the wonderful botanic gardens. A trip up and down the Brisbane River on one of the many ferries enjoying the scenery cost us $10 followed by a nice lunch and a glass of wine at a riverside restaurant. Most enjoyable visit.

I'm a West Australian but I did live in Brisbane for about 2 years in 89/90. I have to say, the vibe was very similar to Perth and the people were very similar and laid back. The one big difference was the hills in Brisbane, I lived in Enoggera and worked in Kelvin Grove and riding a bike between the two was a bit of a task. I lived in Melbourne for 2 years as well but I just didn't feel the connection. I had a few bad experiences there so I guess that has stuck with me and the traffic was just abominable.

I think you'd find the extra screening was most likely random. I used to fly from Brisbane interstate every few weeks for about 20 years and was probably pulled out about a third of the time. Took years to find out it was because my boots had traces of fertilizer on them as I spent a lot of time on farms and cattle properties.

The problem with Brisbane is it has no beaches except Manly, Redcliff, Shorncliff and the other bayside swamps. Sydney has surf beaches all the way along its coastline. Melbourne has decent bayside beaches and Adelaide and Perth have great beaches too....That is why Brisbane built southbank artificial beach.

I grew up in Brisbane and Townsville. One thing he didn't notice and you probably won't in a hotel or backpackers is waking up to birdsong which always feels so wonderful when I come back. The ferries are an essential part of Brisbane's public transport and fully integrated into Brissie's single public transport ticketing system (Go Card), they take you across the river and along it. The area he was walking along is in The Valley (Fortitude Valley) and these days it's quite an upmarket area although it used to be a more working class area so it's not surprising he's finding organic food etc although almost all supermarkets offer some organic food. I'm pretty sure the shops shown behind the DAY 2 caption are in James St. Brisbane has an extraordinarily good bus system run by the City Council (biggest council in the southern hemisphere, budget bigger than Tasmania's). Until recently the council would build two busses a week based on the idea that if you build them you can repair them. The suburban train system is also very good reaching down to the Gold Coast and up to Redcliff.

Glad he loved Brisbane after a whole 2 days but some comments. I lived in New Farm for 20 years about a 10 minute walk from New Farm Park and agree that it's a top spot. I also once tripped around the US for 12 months and was based in LA for most of that time. Can't for the life of me how he thinks Brisbane reminded him of LA. It's absolutely nothing like it. I also like walking and was pulled up a dozen or so times by cops because I was WALKING which nobody else did. Bit strange to go to a grocery store to see the local produce and focus on processed breakfast cereals and lollies. BTW most Canadians I've ever come across in many countries told me that the thing they hated most was being mistaken for Americans.

People are definitely very relaxed in tropical Australia 👍 Extra screening is usually related to where you've flown in from because of our VERY strict biological quarantine. That bird is a "Bin Chicken". Aussie food is MUCH healthier than America because there's no High Fructose Corn Syrup, NONE ! And we have much stricter nutritional standards. We also have one of the best coffee cultures in the world thanks to our Italian, Greek & Turkish Australians 👍😁

Immigrated to Australia in 2016. Lived in Brisbane for 5 years. Although I love Sydney, I think Brisbane is a great city to work and live in. As prices go, it only started getting expensive post-COVID, with many folks from down south flooding to South East Queensland. I now live about 200km north of Brisbane, but I still think that if you like city life, Brisbane is a great place to stay. P.S. Summer weather in Queensland can be a bit tough, especially if you come from a more temperate climate. Heat and humidity can be like a monkey on your back.

This area is unique in that it has a marine national park , the Moreton Bay Marine Park, right on its doorstep. Where he has been walking in Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley and New Farm, is inner urban hipster central. 50 years ago it was a bit seedy but has been gentrified.

The red Cityhopper ferries in Brisbane are free. They are slower than the main Kittycats (catamarans) but fine if you are not in a hurry and looking for an enjoyable and relaxing ride.

I grew up in Victoria, travelled to Asia when I was in my late teens for a couple of years, then moved to South East Queensland when I got back to Australia... I live in Asia these days, but if I ever moved back it would be to Brisbane, or the South East Queensland area. The weather is gorgeous, work prospects are good, living is cheaper than Melbourne or Sydney. Just wish there was a bit more AFL and a bit less NRL!

Agreed. LA is a hole! San Diego is a bit better - San Francisco better than them both - and there are some great small towns either side of San Fran, like Salinas for example. LA though - bleugh!

I like to browse supermarkets whenever I so much as go to another town, because some products can change from location to location even within the same state. I sometimes post Arnott's Yoyo biscuits to friends in Sydney because it's the only way they can get them, yet I can buy them in every shop in my town, we're in the same state, I'm just on the other side of it. Anyone that doesn't browse a supermarket on an overseas trip is missing out on learning so much about the country - and the specific part of the country - they're in.

My city, Adelaide, has always been dubbed Australia's best kept secret, mainly I think because very few overseas visitors get to see it in their short visits to Australia. It's the only planned city, outside of Canberra, and it is easy to get around. Some of Australia's best wines come from here. Brisbane does have its drawbacks, like it has been flooded a few times and that part of Queensland has to deal with cyclonic weather. Never been there in my 63 years, just got as far north as Surfers Paradise, but one day I will visit there.

@@dee-smart Ahhh - the tour bus. Brisbane has a lot of historical walks and buildings - plus gardens in the City area. I liked Adelaide when I was there because it is easy walking and quite a few inner city parks as well .......... unfortunately the beaches are usually flat as pancakes .... feels strange when you're used to surf beaches

SE Qld. resident here who frequently travels to Europe, Asia and North America. We often travel other countries in motorhomes, so visit supermarkets. We love seeing how other people live, rather than just the tourist attractions. I think it's fair to say all Australian capitals have their own unique perks and quirks. All have a different feel about them. Adelaide is a bit boring for a tourist, at least we thought so. I've never heard anybody say they visit Adelaide for a holiday.

Yes the ferry is free, actually there's 2 types of ferry, the city hopper is free and only goes to the inner city terminals and then the river cats which go out to the suburbs but you need to pay (same price as train or bus)

Not many people realise that Aus is around the same size in land mass as the US. We just don't have the same population. Customs in Aus is very strict, don't bring stuff you shouldn't and fill out the cards correctly upon arrival. No worries

Considering Australia & the US are relatively the same size, there are 330,000,000ppl in the US and just 26,000,000 in the whole of Australia. This guy was from California? Well, there are 39 million people just in the state of California! So yeah, it would seem very quiet here...
