"Maison" is part 1 of the Apocalypse trilogy. Dreamcatcher are touching on a very important subject here. Maison is French for "house" or rather "home", and they are singing about everyone's home, which is our planet. Previously they talked about online hate, now they are tackling an issue that impacts the whole planet and therefore everyone. Climate change is going to affect all of us, and it is already affecting many people. Island Nations will disappear under the ocean ("Save my home in the ocean"). Ice melts in the arctic and displaces people ("Save my home in the polar"). Forests get decimated by corporate greed and habitats get destroyed ("Save my home in the jungle") and disappearing glaciers and snow packs result in even less water for deserts ("Save my home in the desert"). People have a natural tendency to ignore issues that seem to be in the future - but climate change is here, right now. We can't wait anymore, and it is good that Dreamcatcher use their platform to promote change: "Break your habit now!" Musically I really enjoy the song. Like in BEcause, the rock/metal vibe is dialed back a bit, but it is still there and highly distorted. Although the more I listen to it, the more Rock I hear. I especially like how the pre-chorus and chorus seems to appear out of nowhere, the chord progression in the bridge, and the epic end part. The bass line is crazy as well. LEEZ and Ollounder (their producers) have done it again, and the members are just brilliant. Respect! The next one in the trilogy is "Vision".

Today again, I will tell you an interesting story about K-pop history. Why are metal and rock unpopular in Korea? First of all, if you give the correct answer, it is not true. no see. Rock and metal are also popular in Korea. There are many enthusiasts. Seo Taiji of ‘Seo Taiji and Boys’, considered the origin of Korean K-pop idols, was originally a guitarist in a rock group. After the group disbanded, he released albums that mainly featured metal and rock music, and of course they were extremely popular. There have been many outstanding rock groups in Korean music history. There was also a group called ‘Next’ that I really, really liked. Shin Hae-cheol is one of the few geniuses I recognize. Among the things I've talked about in the past, I talked about how the Korean music industry was ruined when idols became a popular market in the first generation. The first generation was a time when unprepared people, especially Korean-Americans, were taken and they just lip-synced and messed up. However, entertainment companies realized that female fans were a profitable market. The loyalty was amazing. (Male idols in particular had this tendency. The reason they used Korean-American was because they did not go to the military. At the time, three years of military service was fatal to their career.) Male idols just need to be good-looking. Even if you don't have any skills, you can just do something like rap. It was. In a situation like this... truly talented artists will disappear from the airwaves. They left for the stage that wanted them - the live stage. they went to a concert hall near the university. There are famous rock performance clubs in Korea. Now remember again. This story is from the first generation. That's how the music world became divided. Naturally, people who did rock music or hip-hop thought that they were true artists, and idols were not even treated as artists. At that time, idols were not treated as singers. Of course, since there were no public broadcasts, it could not gain widespread popularity. So the income is not good. Even in the case of BTS, which is now a world star, the enormous criticism faced by a member of the traditional hip hop group was truly serious. The question was, how can someone who used to do traditional hip hop become an idol? BTS songs contain content that was met with great criticism at the time. If you listen to ‘Mic Drop’, that’s the story. Anyway, with the start of the second generation of K-pop idols, the idols began to change. They face so much criticism that broadcasting companies begin to make mandatory live broadcasts their regulations. Simultaneous live broadcast, forced live. Put a lip sync mark on the screen. It has become an environment where you can no longer survive without skills. They said they would no longer tolerate the complaints of consumers, the music industry, and broadcasters. What appeared at this time was ‘Big Mama’, which I recommended before. The practice so far has featured singers who are not pretty and would never be able to debut as singers in the current market. Members were formed solely based on singing skills. This is the YG agency of Blackpink and Baby Monster. It's a huge success. It broke the existing market rule that only appearance was important and only loyal fans were guaranteed profits. People remember again. “Yes, in the end, what is important for a singer is singing ability.” This is why the K-pop idol trainee system was created. Through several years of intensive training, I was able to create a truly decent singer and put it on the market. From what I remember, I think it was SM Entertainment. That's how 'Girls' Generation' came out. Now, other companies must also release idols of this level to be able to compete in the market. In that way, that system became the basis of the entertainment world. As the second and third generations passed, fierce competition between agencies became fiercer. Going back to the story, we have to talk about rock and metal artists who went indie. Talented groups are starting to emerge in indies as well. Just around the time it started gaining popularity... I heard that the broadcasting station PD was an indie music lover. He insisted that broadcasting stations broadcast indie music, so a new corner introducing indie music was created. In the past, music broadcasts were often broadcast live in real time. This is because fans voted over the phone, tallied the votes, and selected the winner. One day, a major accident occurred in that indie music corner. A new indie group performed a nude show on that stage, which was broadcast live across the country. The genitals were just clearly visible. Starting from this day. No broadcaster ever played indie music anymore. It was a huge event that was a death sentence for indie music. This is how it fell... Meanwhile, K-pop idols have become increasingly sophisticated and specialized through the second, third, and fourth generations. Meanwhile, it began to gain popularity overseas. The 2nd generation is in Asia, the 3rd generation is in the world region, and the 4th generation is now. There is no such thing as Korean rock, metal, hip-hop, etc. Still very active. It is extremely popular in clubs near each university. However, it is not easy to be exposed on broadcast due to the above reasons. Many people overseas mistakenly believe that Korean K-pop is all idols. It's only a small part. However, it is true that idol music is the trend. This is because the biggest agencies have the most talented people, the most advanced training systems, the best musicians, and the best music video producers. It goes without saying that it is the most competitive. (For reference, did you know that the markets that male idols and female idols focus on are different? Male idols are the target market, while female idols are popular. Male idols are said to have much higher profits. The loyalty and spending power of their fan base is said to be much higher. . It is difficult for female idols to have such a fandom, so they produce highly popular music.) - This is also the reason why this song by Dreamcatcher that you just reacted to took first place for the first time in almost 6 years. - They say popularity is important for female girl groups, but this group uses a rock sound. Rock sound is far from popular in Korea. This is the answer. Didn't they know this? Of course, it's basic common sense. They know it too. Nevertheless, maintaining one's identity in this way is truly something to be praised. This is why this group is more popular overseas. Overseas people like rock sound. Dreamcatcher is the theme today. Why is this group that uses a rock sound so amazing? I talked about what I know about why rock music has become non-mainstream in Korea. I hope it's an interesting story. If you know these facts, you will see more.

Wow, this goes very deep into the history behind a lot of things we've heard. Thanks for taking the time to leave such a detailed comment. It's very insightful. In a large degree, it seems as if rock and metal are not nearly as popular in the US now as it was when we were young, so perhaps the global trends also contribute to that.

The next song is Vision and the third song is Bon Voyage. There is also a English version of Bon Voyage too. Originally, the agency for DC were going to release an album of English versions of DC songs. The girls did do the recordings, but I think the release is either on hold or may not see the light of day.

Dreamcatcher is another of my favorites, and another who I think should be more popular. They, for me, fit in a category with AKMU - groups who seem to find it more important to say what they want to say than to cater to popular trends. Other groups do this as well, but those two can get very "in-your-face" about it. On important issues, we need a variety of approaches. Some people respond to subtleties and hints, but some need to be slapped upside the head. Compared to when I got into K-pop 5 years ago, more groups seem to be taking serious issues head-on, and that's a very good thing. I would love for the artistic community to emulate the 1960's, where protest songs were their own genre' and helped to motivate masses of young people to demand change. This has been an old hippie rant, thanks for coming. ;)

Minx (JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon, with Dami as the maknae) originally debuted September 18, 2014. When Dreamcatcher debuted on Friday-the-Thirteenth of January 2017, it was the first/ original K-Pop Debut for Han Dong and Gahyeon but it was a Re-Debut for all of the other members. Dreamcatcher getting the first win on April 20, 2022 was more than five years after Han Dong and Gahyeon debuted. Obviously it was longer than that for the original Minx members, call it 7-and-a-half years. As the oldest member, JiU took a lot of blame and shouldered a lot of responsibility for the failure of Minx (although from an outsider's perspective, it was very clearly just how the market ran at the time; no fault of hers). She is a real sweetheart and she really tries very hard, she is a GREAT leader. She also did the same (taking the blame and responsibility) for when DC would come SO close to winning (3rd place and 2nd place a few different times) but would not get the prize. I am sure she cried sometimes, I know that must have been really hard on her. They were ALL frustrated; everybody at the entire company was frustrated. But not the way JiU thought they were. The CEO knew it was not JiU's fault, they know better what is going on in the market. Plus of course, there is at least one numbers-fudging incident that went public after a loss that had a mere ELEVEN POINTS between the winner's score and Dreamcatcher's score. I highly doubt that was the only time that DC has been sabotaged, so I think the entire thing is rigged. Figures. But with this first win, JiU could breathe much easier.

@@CoachCastTV Well there is AT LEAST one controversy, and we know about it because the whole thing blew up and went viral. DC deserved that win. They deserved a whole lot of others too, but NEVER got it until this MV. There is a video on the YT channel called mera that I hope you will eventually react to (it's not musical but it might have spoilers if you have not yet seen everything DC did before 2020. And it is a 30-minute video...). The video is called "Dodging Disbandment and Other Extreme Sports: A History of Dreamcatcher". One small section of that video explains as much as can publically be found about that situation. It also highlights how if the show did this once, they could have done it before and they likely did it since.
