It’s sad how underrated this album was due to the superbowl , this album is superb

oh wow, i had no idea this was after that incident

@@thechanelissueoh yea, the next month actually. There’s SO much surrounding this album. It’s crazy what they did to her. This album is so good to be so unfortunate. And this isn’t even the intended version of the album (which is why there are SO many leaked songs from the DJ sessions and ALOT we haven’t heard). Post Super Bowl the label wanted to tone her image away from anything sexual - however that directly contradicted her and what she was creating. So as she continued recording- forming the album we have. And I personally feel like she kept the 2 most explicit sexual songs as a FU to the entire situation lol that could just be my petty mind 😂 Just a little while was leaked after the Super Bowl to radio and started climbing the charts. But the SB happened on CBS who (at that time) owned most of radio. So when the incident happened, Janet publicly apologized (it’s on KZbin) - and two written statements to the press. But that wasn’t enough for former head of CBS Les Moonves and he blacklisted her across CBS radio stations (which were mostly pop, mainstream top 40 stations - an important (but not total) loss for Janet. She then released the Kanye produced I Want You as the first single just for Pop to ignore it and only the urban/r&b/ adult contemporary stations supported it. It did very well on the urban charts and even went platinum. She then released a total pop song All Nite out next and Pop ignored it and it doesn’t work on the urban stations so it didn’t do well on the charts. The clubs however made it #1 on the dance charts. After this the tour was cancelled, she was being trashed across the media as this “aging pop diva desperate for attention” as CBS news called it at the time at the time. Every interview she went on they’re asking her about it - So she ended the whole thing. Because of this, the next two album take a strong urban/R&B direction.

Even with the blacklisting this album still did well and it sold more copies in its first week than most of today’s artists and all nite don’t stop is considered one of her biggest hits and Janet fans have made this album chart so much in recent years and even the music videos from this album took over the charts a few times on iTunes so I wouldn’t say it’s underrated even the album cover is iconic

@@thechanelissue Yeah Super Bowl was 1st Feb, and 2nd Feb they dropped first single Just a Little While. Not sure why she didn’t perform any songs from the album during Super Bowl - would’ve been best promo
@forresthinton81096 ай бұрын
@SaintDanielMusic Actually, the single was leaked. Just A Little While was always supposed to be the first single. According to Jimmy Jam, they weren't done with the album. By the time they stopped the leak in the US, it was on the radio in Europe. So yeah, it wasn't an official release. It was leaked.

"I Want You" was a massive mega hit in 2004. it was everywhere. the BET Network even did a 30 minute special on the making of the video that year. she also performed a few of these song on Good Morning America's summer concert series in Central Park. it was a big year for Janet. but "Spending Time With You", "Moist", "Truly" and my favorite: "SLOLOVE" are my picks from this album.

“Put Your Hands On” (Japanese bonus track) ran so that “Virgos Groove” 🐝 could walk! 🔥 There’s a ton of outtakes from this era “Pops Up”, “Speed It Up”, “I’m Here”, (another Japanese bonus track), Just A Little While Just Blaze Remix”, “Could This Be Love” (this song was on the original track listing but removed because of Usher’s “Truth Hurts” since it was the same producers and his album was released a week before hers). I feel like I’m forgetting some other songs but check them out, and great review! 👊🏿

This album should have been a number 1 album like Justin Timberlake's first solo album was, they were released at the same exact time, but after the right tit wrong color racism happened after the Superbowl, It was unfortunately widely ignored! Janet took all of the blame, heat, and criticism like the consummate professional she is and kept it moving only to say ONE TIME ONLY. " Justin knows what happened, and he said nothing!" THE COUNTRY attempted to make it up to her when, on the 25th anniversary of "Control," the people made sure it went to No.1 AGAIN! JT finally got some much deserved backlash, and the world kept turning! Love seeing your REAL appreciation of her artistry! She's not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside Michael and her other brothers for nothing!

Usher, actually beat her to the number one spot not Justina timberfake, I'm not trying to be negative but even with the blacklisting like no artist (black artist!) Had experienced since the 40's. I think Janet's "Damita Jo" performed very well. The album is great, it's unfortunate that everyone else turned their backs on her because of a rapist "Les Moonves " and she didn't do what he asked of her to save her career. I actually have more respect for her because anyone else would have backed down like Justina did. Janet took the hit and kept going. Sorry, I'm venting. 😡 😞

@jeremyallennossette6426 Thanks for the correction. However, I believe she was kept out of the top spot because of the Superbowl incident, and that was my main point!
@jeremyallennossette64266 ай бұрын
@htbald1 no you are totally correct when it comes to that. I almost erased my comment except that I got passionate 😆 sorry. I love Ms. Janet so it was hard for me to believe that one man could tear (try to take down!) Such a strong powerful woman. I was disgusted in how she was treated. That less than moor. Person and Julie Chen for accepting that behavior BTW.

It's such a gem, but isn't her greatest album in my opinion, even though I love it immensely. You're going to enjoy 20 Y.O. ("Years Old") a lot. Her album "Discipline" should follow that, similar vibe. I was thinking you should check out listening to Michael Jackson's Dangerous and History albums. Masterpieces start to finish!!
