On my 10th birthday, I asked for this album, one of my sisters got it for me!! WOW!! That was back in 1980!! This is still my favorite album of all !! 5 excellent musicians playing at the top of their game!! Made In Japan is an excellent album, everyone should get to enjoy this pleasure at least once!!

DEEP PURPLE - IN ROCK!

Deep Purple, along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, were the hard rock bands that led to heavy metal. They're who I listened to as a kid in the 70s.

The speeding ticket song! They had the music press with them on the coach going to a gig on the south coast of Enland. One of them asked how they wrote their songs? Out came the guitar, a few dr um beats on the seats, a few added lyrics - they then perfected it at the soundcheck and played it at the gig for them! Again, totally unedited and written around a quasi-Bach organ sequence! 5 of the best ever musicians - all in one band!

They took this right off the sound board and just released it as is, if I recall. If any cleaning up was done, there was very little. I like the authenticity

This album was not produced in anyway it was released as is purely live. What may sound muddy to you is the fact the whole band is playing during the song during the keyboard solo and guitarist is filling in the spaces with the drums and the bass..You’re just not used to this heavy type of music Which was considered speed metal at the time before it was a genre. they were a wall of sound with their Marshall stack amps.

I really like the production of this album. Of course it has its limitations, they only had eight tracks to work with, and such low expectations of the recording most of the band didn't bother to show up for the mixing. So, apart from edits to fit the vinyl format, there was nothing else done to enhance what was recorded on the night. I think modern recording and production techniques pretty much kill most live recordings stone dead. If it sounds like it was done in a studio, what's the point?

Definitely check out their album Machine Head. Favorite live rock album is Allman Bros at Fillmore East but this one is really good too.
