Poland does not ask how many enemies there are, but where they are.

After the end of World War 2, the losses among the Polish population were so great that Poles simply did not have the strength to fight the Soviets. It took several decades for them to regain their strength and regain their freedom. It is funny that nowadays the countries of Western Europe, which betrayed Poland, want to teach Poles morality.

2:27 - "Squadron 303": - "On August 2, 1940, No. 303 Squadron was formed. During the Battle of Britain, it shot down 110 German planes - the most of any fighter squadron taking part in the fighting. Less than a year after the painful September defeat, Polish pilots had the opportunity to take revenge in the skies of England. On September 15, 1940 - on the breakthrough day of the Battle of Britain - they showed great class. They were considered one of the best and most effective hunting units during World War II." 2:45 - "Black Devils": - "1st Armored Division. Polish armored unit commanded by General Stanisław Maczek that liberated Belgium and the Netherlands from Nazi occupation They were called "black devils" - because of the color of their berets and leather jackets, as well as because of their crazy courage. The struggle of Maczek's soldiers against the German invader lasted from the first to the last day of World War II in Europe. They did not allow themselves to be beaten by a stronger enemy and, as the only large unit of the Polish Army that retained combat capability in 1939, they withdrew to Hungary, from there to France, from where the fate of the war took them to Great Britain. In 1944, they returned to the continent as the 1st Armored Division. The most important thing for them was the fight for the freedom of their homeland. General Maczek said: The Polish soldier fights for the freedom of all nations, but dies only for Poland."

Officially the WWII ended for everyone except every country behind the Iron Curtain in 1945 but for Poland it ended in 1989 when Russian occupation ended. Interesting fact: Poland was occupied by Nazi Germany 1939-1945 and by Soviet Russia 1939-1989. Poland was the first country where communist fell and democratic elections were organized. Solidarity Movement was the spark that made the Iron Curtain fell.

Additionally, as an interesting fact, on 11 December 1941, Poland declared war on Japan (as the only country in the 20th century). The response to the Polish declaration was given by the Prime Minister of Japan, Hideki Tojo, who in the years 1941-1944 exercised actual and dictatorial power in Japan. However, his position approached the Polish declaration of war with great distance, which he commented on in the following words: "We do not accept the calls of the Poles. "Poles, fighting for their freedom, declared war on us under pressure from Great Britain." Even though World War II ended in 1945, the issue of the Polish-Japanese war was not settled. Both countries were still at war, but at the same time they did not conduct any military operations against each other. The peace agreement entitled the Agreement on the Restoration of Normal Relations between the Polish People's Republic and Japan was concluded only on 8 February 1957 in New York.

I watch many reactions to this film, you are the first to notice that the war for Poland ended many years after the war, although not in 1979.

The world would say the WWII ended in 1945. But Polish would say the WWII actually ended between 1989-1991. Only after the fall of USSR we were free and it was over for us.

"Fun" fact about the Katyn massacre - the Soviets used the execution method typical to Germany so Germany would be blamed for that. Didn't really make a difference for us, but for the rest of the world? Yeah. If you are impressed with the flying there's a nice documentary on YT about 303 Division, mostly Polish pilots that actually made history. As for the confusion, the war to everybody else ended in 1945. But we were left behind the Iron Curtain and the Cold War continued. For Poland it was very little difference whether it was a regular war or the cold one, just there were no air raids. For Poland World War 2 ended when the Cold War ended: 1989.

1:50 This is true, but it's not entirely true. See, what they mention, are 20,000 "officers". What they _don't_ tell you, is that many of those officers were members of the Polish intelligentsia, the intellectual and cultural elites: Priests, painters, poets, writers, composers, teachers, mathematicians, cryptologists etc. Katyń wasn't aimed at the Polish military. Katyń was aimed at the Polish intellectuals, to deprive the nation of leadership, and pave the way for the Soviet takeover.

IPN tv is not some tv . It is The Institute of National Remembrance - Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation. This film was made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of regaining the independance after 123 years of not existing on the world's maps because of three partitions which took place in the 18th century. In this vid you hear the voice of Sean Bean who played Boromir :-) I think it's great you are interested in our history and culture. Liked and subscribed :)
