Maker Studios (which is owned by Disney but wasn't when ERB started) produced Epic Rap Battles of History for its first five "seasons", but then they split off and became independent from season six onwards around 2018/2019ish.

The Mr. Hooper thing was a pretty big deal at the time. They could have handled it in a lot of ways, but they chose to have the character of a children's show actually die so they could explain what death was and how to address it to kids.

Disney has a legit terrifying amount of power and media control. Why do you think there was so little criticism of Disney opening up parks early during covid even on more lockdown supporting networks? Its because Disney owns most of those networks.

'out to pasture' is another phrase for retirement. It's a term originally used for old race or work horses(sometimes cows and other work livestock) that can no longer do their jobs and so they're let go on a remote section of land to live out the rest of their years

This is one of my favorite ERBs. Henson and Lee came out swinging in their own unique styles. But then the two legends reconciled acknowledging the epic status of the other. But then corporate America came in saying "Get back to work, bitches." Even though I'm not a big fan of corporate conglomerates mucking with things, Walt's entrance was wicked.

Jack Kirby, Stan Lee and other individuals were collaborators on many creations. Stan Lee wrote the backstories on many characters and Jack would interpret some of them them through his artistic skill. Stan had a lot of control during the overall creative process, which manifested itself in Stan getting the spotlight more than Kirby. Even though Stan put his John Hancock on the books, it wasn't until later on down the road that Kirby received the recognition he richly deserved.

You should watch the clips about mr hooper, it makes the line hit so much harder. Long and short was they took mr hoopers death as a opportunity to teach kids about death and had big bird struggle with that. Both with understanding it and coming to grips with it. It’s one of those highly regarded emotional television moments and it’s from Sesame Street which is just unexpected. I do wish they had touched on the fact that, while Walt himself was shrewed businessman, the company as people know it today is nothing like it was under him. he was a visionary and optimist and pushed for technological innovation. He died in 1966, most of the "evil disney" stuff was done after his death. His brother and his nephew, both named Roy, tried to keep his vision alive. but after Roy Sr died that was when things started really getting out of control. Then when Roy Jr died, all bets were off.

One of the biggest things about Mr. Hooper on Sesame Street, he was such a beloved character that everyone loved. When the actor passed away, rather than just replacing him with another actor, or writing his character out of the show, they actually went all in and had his character die IN the show. They had an entire episode about it and it was centered around how to teach kids at a young age how to deal with loss like that. The episode was heartbreaking and centered around Big Bird not understanding the whole concept of death and all the adult characters trying to teach him about how Mr. Hooper wasn't coming back because that's just what happens when someone dies.

02:48 The comics code was a lot of moral scare against comics. Included such gems as "Authorities can't be portrayed in a bad light" and had major stuff agianst drugs and so on. And many stores wouldn't sellcomics without their seal, so the industry basicalyl ended up self-censoring itself.* Then the US GOVERNMENT, Department of Health, Education and Welfare asked Lee to do a comic on drug abuse. He did. The CCA said: "No. This is against our rules. We won't certify the comic." Marvel put the comic out anyway, figuring: "Hey, the story was asked for by the HHS. We got the government behind us." The comic sold great. The CCA was embarassed. *from Wikipedia, the 54 criterias: Crimes shall never be presented in such a way as to create sympathy for the criminal, to promote distrust of the forces of law and justice, or to inspire others with a desire to imitate criminals. Policemen, judges, government officials, and respected institutions shall never be presented in such a way as to create disrespect for established authority. (HELLO FASCISM!) Criminals shall not be presented so as to be rendered glamorous or to occupy a position which creates a desire for emulation. In every instance good shall triumph over evil and the criminal punished for his misdeeds. Scenes of excessive violence shall be prohibited. Scenes of brutal torture, excessive and unnecessary knife and gunplay, physical agony, the gory and gruesome crime shall be eliminated. No comic magazine shall use the words "horror" or "terror" in its title. All scenes of horror, excessive bloodshed, gory or gruesome crimes, depravity, lust, sadism, masochism shall not be permitted. Disney is so powerful, they are the reason our copyright system is so screwed up… They are the main reason the length of copyright has been extended multiple times, because they don’t want Mickey to become public domain… Funny that they got their big break in films based on stories that are in the public domain like Cinderella, Snow White, etc…

It's not a debate. Stan Lee put his name on Jack's comics. But it seems Jack actually agreed for him to do it, as they were friends.
@TheRyujinLP3 жыл бұрын
While this is a pretty broad subject and who deserves more credit really depends on just which character we're talking about, for the most part Stan Lee is the one who came up with name, backstory, and powers of the characters and Jack (along with Steve Ditko) would then draw them out. Now of course there was going to be a bit of back and forth as the fleshed the designs so there's a bit of everyone's ideas in each character I do think it's safe to say that for the most part these characters wouldn't exist without Stan Lee being behind the main creative wheel.

Me personally I say that this Characterization of Walt Disney wins. If you really break it down it just seems like the entire verse is just a diss to everyone. He didn't just own those two he owned the whole world. Disney bought out the Jim Henson company after Jim Henson died. Then Disney bought out Marvel while Stan was alive. He basically said their battle was just a simple debate and that it was a waste of time. There's just so much within this battle. Also the studio ERB used to work at during that time was owned by Disney so yes they did own ERB.
@undertakernumberone13 жыл бұрын
It's not a characterization of Walt. It's the Walt Disney COMPANY! It fits the modern Company pretty well, while the real Walt Disney, from what I've heard, was different.
@Lugiamasterbrony3 жыл бұрын
@@undertakernumberone1 Yes the real Walt was different however this is a version of Walt that represents the current modern day Disney hence this characterization of him. So yes it IS a characterization of Walt. It's a personification of the company today through this portrayal of Walt Disney. If you don't believe me look at the description of the battle it says Walt Disney, not the company but the person. Also take a look at Mat4yo's analysis of this battle. It is Walt.

I guess a few characters have run the store since (unsurprisingly didn't see it for over 30 years afterwards) - but when my own children started watching it the store was still called Hoopers.

Mr. Hooper was the kind black man who owned the corner store on Sesame Street. Everyone absolutely loved the character and he was probably one of the most beloved characters "In universe". So when the actor playing Mr. Hooper passed away; rather than replacing him with someone else or just writing him out, the show went all in and actually had him die in the show. They used the episode as a way to try to help children better understand death and teach parents how to help them help this children better understand such a concept. The episode was absolutely heartbreaking and centers around Big Bird wanting to give a drawing he made to Mr. Hooper and all the adults having to try to teach/help him understand about death because Big Bird doesn't really understand the whole concept of "Mr. Hooper's gone."
