In the beginning part when the singer says 'Stars are falling from Grozny's dawn sky', it's actually a metaphor. During the First Battle of Grozny, the Chechen and Russian military used A LOT of artillery, mortars, and flares, akin to actual 'falling stars'.

@@sneedmando186 The english translation is spot on most of the time. It's not directly said in the Russian text what the "stars" really were.

Artillery was used only by Russians, the Chechens had very little of it.
@hewhoplugwalks2 ай бұрын
@@Skala1191 I should've clarified, as you're right, the Chechens didn't have any real artillery force. However, they did have a sizeable amount of light mortars, and plenty of IEDs to go around.

I have a very tiny problem with this song (I still absolutely love it, though). There is a version of it about the Soviet-Afghan war. And the logical thing would be to consider that version the original one since Afghanistan happened way earlier. "Don't tell mom I'm in Afghan" even rhymes way better in Russian. BUT that version is nowhere near as emotional. It's sung differently and doesn't hit as much. Which means I still like the Chechnya version more, even though it's probably not the original one.
