Thanks for the reaction. Lisa always mentions that Rihanna is her main influent in music industry so it a big compliment that you notice that. By the way, Rockstar is not her first solo song but it is the first song under her own company, LLOUD. At this point, all members have a separate solo career and gain more control over their own works but they will reunite again next year on a group project. Her very first song is actually LALISA under YG entertainment, the same company as BP.

Lisa is from Thailand. The line "Lisa, can you teach me Japanese?” I said「はい、はい" Lisa is talking about racism. Asians are often treated as Chinese/Japanese, and Asians can often be referred to as "arigatto" by strangers, although the person may be from a completely different country. She also knows 5 languages Thai, English, Korean, Japanese and basic Chinese.

It's actually not about racism per se, the Lisa can you teach me Japanese comes from fans in the early days - including Asian fans - conflating Lisa the massive Japanese star ( Lisa Oribe) with Lisa Manoban here. Also this Lisa speaks 5 languages fluently including Japanese so also the joke if confused with Lisa Oribe by a music journalist or something and asked something in Japanese she could answer it in Japanese.

@@LilyAllen-ti5kw True, but Lisa did actually mention being confused with "the other Lisa" in one of the rockstar promo interviews she did. If I could hotlink it here I would. Also I don't think Asians of one race/ country being confused for that of another is some sort of exclusively Caucasian or inherently racist thing. I mean my ex gf was Japanese and when we were in Thailand I lost count of the times locals mistook her for Thai and spoke to her in Thai even though to me she obviously looks Japanese. In fairness as you doubtless know there's a big Thai Chinese population in Thailand so maybe they thought she was Thai Chinese. Anyway, I don't know but honestly I'd imagine if Lisa herself has experienced much racism in her life it will have been as a Thai in Korea. Not saying Koreans are all racist against SE Asians but some definitely are.

@willsmith39 Maybe you're right. I think your words are more truthful, but I think the theory of racism also has a place. It's just that a lot of Thai women are shown in the video and many would not have thought that they were from Thailand, they would have immediately thought that they were Japanese or Chinese. But that's just the theory. I think this line can be interpreted in different ways.

Hey guys, thanks so much for reacting to Lisa! She’s such a superstar. In BLACKPINK, she’s more known for her insane rapping and dancing, but honestly, she’s shown so many times that she’s a fantastic singer too. The cool thing about BLACKPINK is how all four members have their own unique vibe, but when they come together, it just works, it’s like magic honestly. I did see a hater in the comments spreading misinformation, but Lisa’s talent and impact pretty much speak for themselves, so no worries there. Anyway, I really loved the reaction it’s always nice seeing people appreciating her talent :)

The "Lisa can you teach me Japanese" line is a reference to the fact that early on Lisa who is Thai and in a Korean girl group was being confused by Western audiences as the famous Lisa Japanese singer. But Lisa does know Japanese, and Korean and Chinese Mandarin and is fluent in English. So she just decided to go with the flow and just responded with "sure I can teach you Japanese, but I am not THAT Japanese singer Lisa".
