It's from the 1949 movie "That Midnight Kiss" with Kathryn Grayson. What a beautiful and powerful voice he had. He is my favorite opera singer...Great find and reaction to one of the greatest 'Tenors' the world has ever known.

@@christineokosun In his last movie titled "For The First Time" [1958]. Mario Lanza performs 'Vesti La Giubba.' That performance is the best version of the song I have ever heard. You must react to it...You will be pleasantly surprised. He truly was on top of his game on that performance. He also sang 'O' Sole Mio' in that movie, and again his beautiful and powerful voice made it so memorable. So memorable that Elvis Presley would later do an English version which would become one of his biggest hits titled "Its Now Or Never."

Thanks you for posting this. I am sure your students are blessed to have you as teacher. Absolutely fantastic rendition and ranks well among the best. Try this Neapolitan classic “Fenesta ca lucive” kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppqtdZZpdqh8Zs0 recorded when Mario was in failing health (died less than a year after recording). This is a prime example of how to do that genre of music. Done under the excellent direction of Conductor Franco Ferrera, Mario forms ever note and word with the emotion due them. Not only does his physical voice frame them exceptionally but his phrasing is more than exceptional. If this is not a listen on HOW to sing what is? As another example of his artistry for your students less versed in the Italian forms I suggest "Guardian Angels" kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZjIcoJppLZlbqc. Again thanks.

Caruso sang before the microphone was invented 1925. So you really need to listen carefully though. He had the smoothest. Most Powerful & best acting ability. Hes the original who created this standard of singing! Pavorotti said that Caruso is unsurpassed & the base of the mountain. There's Caruso & the Others!
