I was lucky enough to be at this concert. My Special Forces Detachment was assigned by the State Department as backstage security for all the bands. We had 6 guys at every entry point with one team roaming backstage at all times. It was total controlled chaos. The Russian military provided 100% of the outside security. They were really friendly and welcoming, and I think every person there was loving their new found freedom.

@@MrGratefulNC I'd forgotten all about Napster. These reactors on KZbin go through some serious and ridiculous crap for reacting to all different musicians or groups; even ancient songs. I thought Lars was being an asshole as well about Napster but especially the subscribers. If I recall he wanted to literally "hunt down" all of us who downloaded Metallica from Napster. You have to admit there were a lot of groups and individuals suing Napster. I remember Lars then. He blew it way overboard. Anyway, Regards.....T

You really do some of the best reaction videos out there. You don't interrupt the song while writing out what you have to say for each part, you have sharp commentary, and perhaps most of all, you seem to really love the music. I watch loads of reaction videos in that I've been stuck at home for over a year now and what is really great is being able to connect with someone's emotions by just watching them enjoy something you love so much. And in doing so I've become hyper-aware of those reviewers who are faking their reactions for views and someone who really enjoys them. So if you're faking it, you're doing a fine job and keep it up. Having someone else to listen along with you and experience the music for the first time as opposed to listening to them by yourself is kind of like Christmas with or without kids around. There's like a shared empathy in it.

Well waking up to see this notification made my day so much better. I really enjoy your reactions and how genuine they are. You're not just another person sitting in front of a camera reacting to music videos (not that there's anything wrong with that!). As an extremely amateur musician, I really enjoy hearing how others see, hear, and feel music, and even though there's no interaction in watching a reaction really, I still feel as if i'm not watching the video alone. Thank you for taking the time to do these reactions, as well as your thoughts, feelings, and insights into the music, musicians, and groups! I saw them live in Atlanta, GA in the US back in the early 2000s. Not nearly as big of a crowd, but absolutely epic show. Not to mention Linkin Park opened for them. Looking forward to more in the future.

I heard the guards were trying to calm the crowd down, screaming at them from the helicopters. Because there were giant violent mosh pits, and it was the FIRST festival with international rock stars in the Soviet Union. People were going insane! I’ve seen every tour since 85 because Metallica always brings the energy and performance. Would recommend Fade to Black live. That song helped me survive my teenage years and shows a more intricate side. Their original bass player was classically trained and loved Bach. He was main influence on sound & harmonies they still use

This performance is legendary, primarily due to the sheer size of the crowd. This song is from the band's infamous "Black Album," which is the album that really put them over the top commercially. It is also a somewhat controversial album for the band, as it represented the beginning of a change in their overstyle. You can check out the song "Creeping Death" from the same performance to get a good comparison in their "classic" style and the style they adopted beginning with the Black album. God bless!!

Every time I see that first shot of the crowd, so large they literally fade into the misty horizon, with that helicopter scarily close to the concertgoers (cooling them with the ‘copter blades forcing air down into the overheated audience) I get chills. That cinematic introduction with the music from a Sergio Leone Clint Eastwood western movie. There were reputed to be 1.6M people in attendance but the security folks collecting tickets gave up counting at some point so no one really knows. Everyone there just wanted to celebrate, to inhale the divine elixir of freedom, to joyously ROCK OUT! 🇺🇸🇷🇺🇩🇰🎸 FYI Metallica is currently touring (I am writing this in August 2024) with eight performances just in this month! 33 years after this legendary performance in Moscow. Testosterone indeed! 👊🏻
