During the battle of midway, Enterprise Pilot Dusty Kleiss who was in a sbd dauntless dive bomber attacked the IJN Hiryu (an aircraft carrier) and in his words "the front of the flight deck just opened up like a taco" I find it fitting since the plane the dropped the bomb that destroyed the USS Arizona was from the hiryu. Look up battle 360 uss enterprise and dusty is on there

Midway, was the very first Sabaton I ever heard. They've had ahold of me ever since! Thanks Professor, you hit the nail on the head.

You should react to "wehrmacht" next! It's a great song about wether the titular wehrmacht was made up of trained killing machines with no remorse or scared young men who lost their way and were too scared to do what's right, also displays the downfall over the course of the war and how it went from trained soldiers to mostly conscripts of young boys and old men by the closing of the war

I caught this early! It is wonderful that Sabaton is getting back to their older songs and making lyric videos. Although I love Joakim's voice, sometimes he can be a little hard to understand when he speaks quickly. Good reaction!

Don't know if it was intended, but Japan is known as "the land of the rising sun". Japan lost a lot of veteran crew / pilots in this battle. The line "blood red sun is on the rise" to me, is just brilliant 👏

It could also be a reference to the old sailing adage of “red skies in the morning, sailor take warning”. Red skies can be an indication that high pressure (and thusly good weather) has left the area, and that a storm is likely imminent.

The battle of Midway was one of the most decisive naval battles of WWII, with the battle likely determining the fate of the war in the pacific. The Japanese navy had a VERY hard time recovering from this defeat, a battle they lost despite outnumbering the American fleet. But as the song states “tactics are crucial” in naval war, and ours were better on that day.

The Japanese had a choice to make: whether to mount ground munitions to bomb Midway or to prep for arial combat. Also the Japanese safety measure with handling munitions and fuel was subpar resulting in 1 bomb hitting the fuel and munitions depot destroying the carrier.

Definitely check out the Sabaton History for this! Battle of Midway was a trap of an trap, huge battle in which intelligence played a huuge role and was a turning point in Pacific theater. Great reaction, as always :)

The Battle of Midway was a major naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II that took place on 4-7 June 1942, six months after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and one month after the Battle of the Coral Sea.The U.S. Navy under Admirals Chester W. Nimitz, Frank J. Fletcher, and Raymond A. Spruance defeated an attacking fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy under Admirals Isoroku Yamamoto, Chūichi Nagumo, and Nobutake Kondō near Midway Atoll, inflicting devastating damage on the Japanese fleet. Military historian John Keegan called it "the most stunning and decisive blow in the history of naval warfare", while naval historian Craig Symonds called it "one of the most consequential naval engagements in world history, ranking alongside Salamis, Trafalgar, and Tsushima Strait, as both tactically decisive and strategically influential". Luring the American aircraft carriers into a trap and occupying Midway was part of an overall "barrier" strategy to extend Japan's defensive perimeter, in response to the Doolittle air raid on Tokyo. This operation was also considered preparatory for further attacks against Fiji, Samoa, and Hawaii itself. The plan was undermined by faulty Japanese assumptions of the American reaction and poor initial dispositions. Most significantly, American cryptographers were able to determine the date and location of the planned attack, enabling the forewarned U.S. Navy to prepare its own ambush. Four Japanese and three American aircraft carriers participated in the battle. The four Japanese fleet carriers-Akagi, Kaga, Sōryū, and Hiryū, part of the six-carrier force that had attacked Pearl Harbor six months earlier-were sunk, as was the heavy cruiser Mikuma. The U.S. lost the carrier Yorktown and the destroyer Hammann, while the carriers USS Enterprise and USS Hornet survived the battle fully intact. After Midway and the exhausting attrition of the Solomon Islands campaign, Japan's capacity to replace its losses in materiel (particularly aircraft carriers) and men (especially well-trained pilots and maintenance crewmen) rapidly became insufficient to cope with mounting casualties, while the United States' massive industrial and training capabilities made losses far easier to replace. The Battle of Midway, along with the Guadalcanal campaign, is widely considered a turning point in the Pacific War.

It was a carrier battle indeed. The US compensated for their carriers being outnumberd by making Midway their 3rd "carrier".

Driving to this song causes speeding tickets!.... Lucky for the US (and Australia and the other allies) that the Japanese carrier captains/admirals made so many mistakes! The story of Yorktown is amazing, the Japanese thought they had sunk it once during the battle, so when they did sink it they reported it as a second carrier sunk. And this after the Yorktown was supposed to be in repairs for 30 days....they got it ready in 3
