You are right, the Russians never conquered Stockholm, but the Swedes once conquered Moscow (in 1610). Another fun fact is that the name Russia comes from the name Rus, which was what Swedes were called during the Viking age. Even today the Finnish name of Sweden is Ruotsi.

Actually, the Swedes were allies of the Muscovites, and were completely defeated by the Polish-Lithuanian army, which led to the oath of allegiance to the Polish king Vladislav

Moscow was founded by Swedish vikings, but apart from that, it's more that the Slavic people absorbed the Swedish vikings that went there and settled.

@@bjoardar nope not Moscow, it was founded around 1150ish, after the viking age. But they are heavely invovled in the creation of Kiev, Novgorod and several other towns, most cities were there before the viking dynasty Rurik founded Novgorod in 847ish, and the Rus name and the last parts of Kievan territory was taken by Moscow in 1610 becoming Russia.

Yeah Not Narva looks like after making the RAW REACTION it looks to be the Battle of Bender: On 1 February, the Ottoman forces, commanded by the Serasker of Bender, attacked the camp. Together with some 40 soldiers, Charles XII stood against many hundreds of Turks.[dubious - discuss][citation needed] The Life Guard Axel Erik Roos in particular distinguished himself during the skirmish and accounts tell that he saved the king's life three times during the day.[dubious - discuss][citation needed] The king himself killed at least one Ottoman soldier with his sword in hand-to-hand combat when he and Roos came under attack by three Ottomans. During parts of the fighting, Charles was also actively sniping with a carbine against the assaulting enemy from a window in his sleeping quarters, positioned in the building where the Swedes had taken up their defense. The fighting lasted for over seven hours and the Ottomans eventually used both artillery and fire arrows when the initial assaults were beaten back; the later method proved to be effective. I'll just want to add as well that Finland had been a part of Sweden for about 300 years or so when the great Norden war started. Finland as an independent country is just a little over 100 years old. So when Sweden fought Russia in Finland thay were defending Swedish soil.

During this time Finland WAS Sweden! I'm a Swedish-Finn and my family, from the past, was from "Swedish" part of Sweden and then moved to the "Finnish" part of Sweden. I'm born in Sweden and lives here but have relatives in Finland! The elite force of the King was "Hakkapeliterna"', soldiers from the Finnish part of Sweden. By the way: During this time (the video) the government of Sweden was where the King was, Bender.

Sabaton made this song the Life Guards to celebrate the Swedish Life Guards turned 500 in 2021 and this makes the Life Guards Regiment the World's oldest regiment in the world. It was created by King Gustav Wasa in 1521 and this regiment still exists today. The Life Guards have been involved in many battles and made Sweden rule all over Europe, all the way down to the Middle East and away to Moscow, so Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine and several other countries have been ruled by the King of Sweden. Charles the 12th.

One thing to clarify; The Swedish word that literally translates as Life Guard could properly be translated to mean Bodyguard, so the Royal Guard are the bodyguards of the royal family.

This was not the battle of Narva it was the skirmish at Bender after the swedish kings defeat at poltava he fled and lived as a royal guest with the ottoman sultan and after some time the ottoman people got quite sick of him so 600 ottoman soldiers attacked the king plus 40 of the Livgarde (the royal guard)

There is at least one scene in this video that is problematic from a historical standpoint. At 09:54 one of the band members makes the sign of the cross, something Swedish lutherans never do. In 1713 (when this "battle" was fought) Sweden was fiercely lutheran protestant and the chance of there being a member of the Royal Guard that was not lutheran (or even worse be a catholic) is minuscule. Since Sabaton rarely do make these kind of mistakes and since it's so clearly intentionally included in the video it will be interesting to see why they did it.

They have mainly a ceremonial role and have a Military police batallion, a motorized batallion and a counter-intelligence batallion. Only in wartime they are responsible for guarding the King, the government and the military leadership!

Battle of Narva was luckily not in Finland this time so we can't too be upset about it (we were part of Sweden still at that point). Narva is at the eastern border of Estonia so they got their share of Sweden's and Russian's war too. But all the respect for Sabaton for doing this song to honor those who have served in Livgardet. I have a good Swedish friend who lives in Finland who did his military service in the Life Guards Dragoon's Battalion 4th Squadron who were the only mounted cavalry unit in the Swedish Armed Forces. Damn I would have wanted to learn to do a proper cavalry charge too... Still hoping Sabaton would one day make a song about Hakkapeliitta (Finnish Light Cavalry who served in Swedish army during the 30yrs War), who were the precursor for the 4th battalion according to my friend.

Livgardet is as much part of Finlands history as Swedens. Finland is the old Swedish east after all, its institutions while independent for more then a hundred years are still very much a continuation of the old Swedish institutions (including the state church). Finland was ruled as a duchy during the Russian occupation and used the old Swedish constitution of Gustav 3. Don't be fooled by the fact that our languages are totally unrelated. Finland and Sweden are sibling countries from the same womb.

@@ristusnotta1653 if you read up on the migration periods to Scandinavia and the areas of today’s Finland, you will see that Finns arrived quite late compared to other groups. It doesn’t make Finns less indigenous of the area, they just arrived a bit later; from the east, together with the Estonians. Scandinavians were seafarers and inhabited the coastline of the Baltic Sea before the Finns came. Almost entirely around the coast though. The Sami were inland. And trust me, I’m entirely unbiased as I’m half Finn.

A little history of the Great Northern War. First at this time, Finland was essentially East Sweden. It was a major part of the Swedish Empire. The War was first fought in Denmark as King Charles XII did a lightning campaign and nocked them out of the war. Then he moved 10,000 east to fight the Russians besieging Narva. Narva is located in present day Estonia. Charles was outnumbered 4-1. Just as they were about to attack the Russian fortified camp, it started to snow. Charles took this as sign from heaven that God would cover his troops. The Russians never saw the Swedes until they were upon them. After Narva, the swedes moved into Poland to removed the King of Poland. It took about 7 years,. Then Charles moved Eart to face the Russians. After some military blunders, Charles lost his army at the battle of Poltava in Ukraine. Charles fled to the Ottoman empire where he tried to get them to attack Russia. Eventually he traveled back home and led the defense. In 1719, he was killed at the siege of Fredrikstenin Norway. Which was owned by Denmark at the time. Around this time the swedes defeated a Russian landing force near Stockholm as their last victory of the War. Peace was declared in 1721. Sweden would lose the Baltic states to Russia and Russia would give back Finland which they had captured after the battle of Poltava. Sweden would lose Finland to Russia in 1809.

So no parent in their right mind would dress up their kid in a 16'th century Carolean uniform. It would be the equivalent of sending your kid off with a Confederate banner in the US. I would say it is Ottomans. Carolus Rex traveled to the Ottoman empire trying to convince them to join forces against Russian under the great Northern war. The Ottomans refuced but Carolus didn’t leave until they joined. The Ottomans got tired of him and attaced them with a much larger army but the Riyal guards managed to hold the Ottomans back but eventually Carolus Rex had to realise he wouldn’t make it so he promised to march back home. This was the battle of Bender. About Russians invading Sweden. No, russian tropps has never been in Sweden (if you dont talk about Finland and so on that was swedish for a while). They did an exempt durin the Sandic-Russian war where a large fleet sailed against sweden north of Stockholm, but it was a very successful propaganda and a huge fog that stopped them.Sweden manage to apread a rumor of a large army in the forests waiting for the Russians and they didnt was to risk anding up in a fright with a large army in a difficult terrain where we knew every rock and tree there is so they sailed back home after a few sea battles. There was no army at all in the forest though.

Sweden lost Finland to Russia in 1809, and to this day the officer cadets keep the oath the took back then. They don't button the last button on the sleeve of their dress uniform. It shall remain unbuttoned until Finland is once again Swedish.

Almost correct. Sweden didn’t lose Finland to Russia but the eastern half of Sweden. Finland was invented much later, some 100 years ago. Before 1809 it was a province equal to other provinces in the Swedish kingdom, called Österland (Eastland) in the south and Norrland (Northland) in the north.

Its Ottomans. A representation of the Battle of Bender. The remains of the Swedish Army after the defeat of Poltava and the disastrous and unnessecary surrender of Perevolotjna, taking refuge in Turkey. More than 10 000 Turkish Jannissaries were sent to capture the Swedish king. Most of the Swedish troops were told to stand down, so they wouldnt die unnessesarily, while a detachment of 300 were to make a symbolic stand, defending the King, as it was unthinkable that he should just surrender. Im writing out of memory, so i can have some numbers wrong. The Turkish commander was later executed on order of the Sultan for this action.

From "the enemy" uniforms I'd say that they're reenacting the events in Bender (todays turkey) where the Osmanians finally got tired of the Swedish king hanging around and captured him and after the ransom was paid they sent him packing back to Sweden. Finland didn't become independent until 1917, before then it was either swedish or russian terrirory. The Swedish version of the song mentions multiple battles where the guard were present Narva was one of them but Lund is another mentioned.

The video shows the skirmish at Bender. When Charles XII was exiled in the ottoman empire and the royal guard had to protect him from ottoman soldiers. The King himself sniped ottoman soldiers from his own sleeping quarters with a carbine an killed at least one enemy in sword fighting. 15-31 guards and cossacks died and about 992 were captured while 443 ottoman attackers were killed or injured.

Royal Guard's Music Video features the Kerfuffle at Bendar. Livgardet's Video, which came out first, is actually the fall out of this video. Or at least that is what have have gathered since the blood on the uniforms by the end of this video, is in the same pattern as the blood on the uniforms in Livgardet. somebody has probably told you but the fight taking place within the video seems most likely to be the ''kalabaliken i Bender'' Right after the battle of poltava the swedish king Karl IIX had to flee and the closest route was tp ottoman territory whom also were enemys of the russsians that we weere currently fighting the Otttomans allowed the king and his personal retinue to enter his land and were given a place of residence for a while (alot of political talks of the ottomans joining the great northern war happend there but to no fruition) the Swedish king did not relent though but instead got more bull headed and after a point it had boilt over to a poitn where the sultan wouldnt stop the ire of the locals who did not want to have a king there living on there expense cant remember but think that the battle was betwwen 1000 royal guards + the king and 10 000 ottomans dont know if soldiers, peasents or whatever

Those are Ottoman janissaries, actually. While the lyrics mention Narva (which was indeed our battle of the bulge) the battle they're portraying in the video is actually from an event called "kalabaliken i Bender". I don't think there's a good translation, but think of one word that kind of encapsulates 'chaos/mayhem' and 'incident' and that's sort of what 'kalabalik' means in swedish. The turks of course have a very different idea of what took place during that historic event. Their meaning of the word 'kalabalik' even means something else even though they have that word in their language as well. I think this event took place in the aftermath or the time just before the last Great Northern War. I'm not a hundred percent on this though, so don't quote me on the exact timeline here. And it was indeed a brave stand for the royal guard as they protected one of our last true kings. I personally refuse to acknowledge the Bernadottes as our sovereigns. They're french, not swedes. Only a swedish line hold legitimate authority as kings and queens of our people. The Wasa line was the last. It would have been far better had the last Wasa or his surviving counsel raised a prominent swedish family into royalty rather than let the crown fall into foreign hands.
