Exactly, they were telling the story what happened in "that night" and they couldn't reproduce the worlds best improvisation, so they only play a tribute :)

My husband went through a big Tenacious D phase right before we got married and at our wedding, his aunt asked me what a song was he would always sing to me and I couldn't think of anything but "F*** Her Gently" by them 🤦‍♀️🤣 Thank the Lord I thought of something different to say for the video!! 🤣🤣

Quick facts: 1. Directed by Ben Stiller (cameo near end as he walks by the booth) 2. nod to the greatest song is Stairway to Heaven (you can hear stairway notes at the end, before grandma laugh) 3. Dave Grohl plays the devil ( he was invited to play the devil for the movie as well), 4. They always have a drum kit ready for the shows in case Dave Grohl shows up to play with them if he ever wants.

It was actually directed and edited by Liam Lynch and not Ben Stiller. Stiller was just a cameo. Lynch also cameos in a walk by. One day Dave Grohl will play a show with them and it will be the greatest show in the world.

@@Imabassplayer2 I was at Blizzcon 2010, Dave Grohl played with them that night. No one knew he'd be there and they didnt shine on spotlight on his drum set. A camera focused in on him and everyone just erupted once we recognized him on the big screens. Was a great show.

The song they're referring to is stairway to heaven by led Zeppelin. Dave grohl plays the devil, but he's also tenacious D's drummer, and was Nirvana's drummer as well. Love it! More tenacious d!!!

It’s kinda a joke amongst musicians that we’re always coming up with the best song in the world during jam sessions, or confrontations with the devil, then forgetting it the next day. So this is a tribute to the best song in the world that they wrote, then forgot.

Should check out the long version. Just search for tenacious d tribute long version. You can see that the "greatest song in the world" they're referring too is actually the song by the band Led Zeppelin called "stairway to heaven".

Yeah, Tenacious D is a very popular band, I can see why it'd do well. I also enjoy this band and would enjoy more reactions. For other content that I believe would perform well, check out other leading rock bands from the 2000s, such as System of a Down, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Linkin Park.

Got a criminally underrated band for you bro - Wind Rose. Tolkien/dwarven orchestral metal band from Italy. Every song from their 2nd album onwards is just epic, they really found their sound then. Unique deep vocals and mega talented musicians. 'Age of Conquest', 'The Eyes of the Mountain', 'The Wolves' Call', 'Fallen Timbers', 'Diggy Diggy Hole' (humorous cover), 'Mine Mine Mine!'. Just any of them. Even their pure instrumentals are great and belong in medieval/fantasy movies. Check em out!

Jack Black is a notorious pot head. Anyone who smokes weed and plays in a band could tell you what this song's about. You smoke, you start jamming, and you end up playing the greatest song anyone's ever played ever. Meanwhile, everyone has their own inner monologue going on about how much the weed is affecting their judgement ("forgetting" for the moment how much it's affecting their short-term memory). When the song is over, you all congratulate each other for playing so well but- oh no!- you were all stoned, so not only did you forget to record it, but none of you can remember what you were playing! And of course, most importantly, no one believes you. Luckily, this is so infuriating that it can really only happen a couple of times before most rational people will choose to focus on either the music or the drugs. What's really funny is that this song is so f*cking awesome it probably took a lot of focus. 🤣

Here's how it goes: They played a song for the demon, but afterwards they couldn't remember the song. They wrote THIS song as a tribute to the song they played for the demon. That said, the original version of this song HEAVILY implies that the 'greatest song in the world' was Stairway to Heaven, but due to copyright restrictions, they were forced to remove all but the most subtle references to Stairway.

It goes beyond that. The song is a direct reference to the pick of destiny and them not remembering the events exactly as they happened. (PoD post-credit scene). The music, lyrics and arrangement are based on One, The Devil Went Down to Georgia and Stairway to Heaven. All considered by some people to be the "greatest song in the world" Oh and can't forget the nod to thriller as well.

Some background info: Tribute was the first single of Tenacious D in 2002, from their self-titled album in 2001. Most songs of the album already featured in the HBO series they had from 1997 - 2000. The movie The Pick of Destiny was released in 2006, and is also the title of their second album. Which was followed by the albums Rize of the Phoenix (2012) and Post-Apocalypto (2018)(also a great youtube series they did).
