Woosung is one of the singers from the Korean Indie rock band, The Rose. He grew up in Southern California but auditioned for a Korean talent competition show right after graduating from high school and moved to Korea to become an Idol trainee. After several years as a trainee he quit because he said he felt like a prisoner. He stayed in Korea and taught English for a few years before being recruited as a soloist by several smaller entertainment companies. Around this time his friend asked him to come do one gig with his band which needed a guitarist and a second vocalist and the chemistry worked and the Rose was born. Woosung went to the label and said that he would only sign with his whole band. Their Early albums were all in Korean. Their debut song was called Sorry, but they became famous with their song She’s in the Rain. Woosung put out a few solo albums while the rest of the Rose was doing their mandatory military service. When they came back they clashed with the company over money owed, took them to court and won, and then started their own music company Windfall Entertainment and most of the songs they released after that were in English. Woosung is also friends with Suga from BTS and featured on his song Snooze from Suga’s Agust D-Day album. The Rose also performed at Coachella this last April. I saw them live in concert in October, and it was magical.
