What I find most fascinating is that, of all the instruments 2set has roasted, the recorders are the ones coming out in force to respond. Meanwhile violas are just laughing along with the jokes lol.
@LinneRinne4 жыл бұрын
People get a bit salty sometimes because of the jokes, but, well, it's understandable, because there's also people who think Twoset are insulting or made the video with that intention, but in reality they didn't, but I see this as the Jazz jokes, I am not a profesional Saxophonist but I am studying sax in jazz style, and I do get a little bit salty when people think that Jazz it's just playing wrong notes, but, I think the recorder players have their own reasons because they already are really critiqued, I see their reasons to respond but I also think they have to take it less seriously.
@ghollisjr4 жыл бұрын
@@LinneRinne If anything, I would think people would have to agree that the "Jazz = wrong notes" is part of the general 20th century trend of "creativity = wrong notes", no? I mean, could anyone tell me with a straight face that atonal composers' music sounds more musical than Jazz? Maybe I'm naive about Jazz music, but early Jazz sounds just as musical as any other genre, while late Jazz sounds like a chromatic scale with holes in it.
@LinneRinne4 жыл бұрын
@@ghollisjr You see, you're right, when experimental Jazz was created (not necessarily bad music but...sounds mostly like chromatic scale + random chords) people believed that was kinda just playing wrong notes or literally whatever you come out with, Jazz is obviously mostly improvisation and learning how to move between chords, rhythm, and many many scales with freedom to express yourself in a nice way, you have to make it sound good not just for yourself but for others at some point, because jazz naturally sounds nice, influential songs sound nice even if you don't like jazz, Coltrane, Parker, they sound really good, but after one point jazz became really hard enjoy not only because it was already kinda hard to understand, for example, songs like Giant Steps or some of the last Coltrane songs, but because experimental genres were born and they became really popular among jazz artists (80' to 2000) that got "bored" of the more "normal" jazz, this trend appeared, that "Jazz is kinda just wrong notes over some chords" and well, even thought artists like Joshua Redman or Wayne Shorter exist, it's like the recorder's being jugde before even knowing anything about them, a lot of people still think that jazz is like a disaster, like listening to Yoko Ono screaming in her songs (no offense to her).
@ghollisjr4 жыл бұрын
@@LinneRinne That gets me curious: Is there some recent/new Jazz that you would recommend to a curious listener? I used to jam out to some Meshuggah so I'm fine with chaotic chords & melodies, so is there something that you would say is the pinnacle/icon of recent Jazz music?
@LinneRinne4 жыл бұрын
@@ghollisjr I mean, not really like, a pinncale or icon to be honest, Jazz has been going kinda back to it's roots and the new Jazz it's kind of a mix which, is at least 60% early and classic jazz and 40% experimental, you can listen to Joshua Redman or Maceo Parker, they are awesome and mix a lot of stuff, also you can listen to Wayne Shorter, they all sound great and have their own personality they are, "recent icons" , and as a bonus my teacher it's one of the best saxophonists and Jazz composers from my country, his band is called "Retrasax" and in youtube you can find their jams and many events and songs, there's a 1 hour video from when they played for a radio (Letelier radio) which is really really good, and there's "Puntito", a song that my teacher composed for his middle son.

Also the viola is a much respected instrument, for recorder players it can be really tiring to have people making fun of them all the time. Talking from experience lol It's not offensive, it's just really tiring, and the "match" was so unfair it's kind of frustrating, specially coming from two profesional musicians. That said, I love these guys and I've been following them for a while, just wanted to make my point!

@@AngieGandalf6 ...I'm sorry, but do you have any idea to what extent people make viola jokes in this community? Every. Single. Day. And many of them aren't even that funny but downright mean. Violas are shit/firewood/trash are pretty basic, that doesn't even make me react anymore, in any way. Memes about shooting people who say they like viola, about violists having deformed skulls, running to wash your hands after shaking hands with a violist... and yeah, it's in RL too. Every time I meet new people who are twosetters and tell them I play viola, guess what follows? So you're telling me "it can be really tiring"? Thank you, I know. I'm sorry about the outburst but I'm just so fed up with the situation. Perhaps people do know they're "only" jokes, but that doesn't mean they couldn't have a negative effect. I know at least one case personally who stopped playing viola because of the jokes (someone who was starting a new instrument). And new kids don't want to play viola anymore. Makes sense. At certain age you just don't want to beome the butt of all jokes. It warms my heart that you say viola is respected. That's not something I hear often these days.

Lucie Horsch is one of my favorite people and one of my favorite musicians. I love that when TwoSet tried to make her instrument seem like an embarrassing toy, she didn't get upset and list all the great music for recorder, she responded point-by-point showing how the recorder is every bit as capable as the violin. (To be frank, IMO, at it's very best, played by a true master like Hilary Hahn or Itzhak Perlman, nothing can match the violin. But TwoSet, capable though they are, are not that.) Meanwhile, on her own channel, we can hear a lot of great recorder music, brilliantly played.

Guys, All of these music players were sisters and brothers! Lang Lang(the first brother) plays the piano, Ling Ling (the second sister) plays the violin, and Lung Lung(the third sister) plays the recorder. Now, we just have to wait for Long Long and Leng Leng to come!
