As a foster/adoptive parent of exclusively black children (a long story in itself), it is lovely to see a video helping white moms how to deal with our black children’s hair. I had no help 30 years ago so I would ask black women in the hair aisle over and over again. Thank goodness for them. My youngest adopted daughter was very ill for her first three years, in and out of hospitals and always hooked up to machines and very fragile. I had to choose a style I could manage and was comfortable for her. She has 4c hair and it’s thick. For the first few years I kept it in dreads which I loved. They were long and healthy and looked so good on her. Luckily despite her prognosis my baby girl is a twenty year old college student with no lingering health problems! Thank god. 👏❤️❤️ And the comments Cristie made about their self esteem and learning about their own culture hit home for me. I tried to make sure to learn as much as I could about black culture, history and integrate it in to my family as well. We live in a very diverse community and the schools were wonderfully accepting and helpful. Now if we could change the systemic racism of our police officers I could relax when she is out and about. Poor girl gets pulled over quite a bit and has yet to get a ticket or even a reason for the times her car has been searched! I’ve had some terse phone calls with those police departments and filed complaints. 😡

Thank you for taking back the comment about the "hood beauty salon". It's 2020 now and that kinda humor just didn't hit me right. Maybe in the 90s I woulda laughed at that but nowadays there are so many resources to learn about Black hair and I think as a community we have to move past these kind of jokes that center around stereotypes that hold us back. As a community I don't want us making stereotypical "Black jokes" anymore because as long as we're doing that, some people will hear those jokes and believe that that's the truth of our community. The Black experience is so much more diverse, complex, beautiful, and multifaceted than people have been led to believe. There are Black folks who are vegan, Republican, half Asian, half white, speak Russian, Muslim, travel the world, LGBTQ+, watch Anime, listen to heavy metal, love technology, love cars, are homeless, are millionaires, etc. We live all over the world, speak hundreds of languages, do millions of jobs, practice tons of different religions. We are SO diverse and jokes like that (although seemingly lighthearted) limit people's perception of what it means to be Black. Some ignorant people would hear that joke and conclude that we literally all live in the hood. So thank you for walking that joke back, and showing the diversity in the Black community. Thanks for this video and peace and blessings to both of you 💗

What you wrote was powerful and heart felt. A lot of the jokes that I have done I have changed . One being having an autistic child so mental jokes are out. I do like that you said that the black community is very diverse. Not enough people know that. And me having grown up in and around the black community get veryangry when people automatically assume that because someone's black they are going to be a certain way, have certain political views, like and dislike certain things. Regardless of what race anybody is it's prejudicethe group of people together by their race or gender or sexual orientation or religion. People are all individuals and to judge any book by its cover is ridiculous

I also like Christie and want to be her friend. Her little princess is adorable and the time and effort she has taken your learn how you care for her children's hair shows so much love on her part and that's what I told her. These children are going to have less issues with self identify when. They get older, she says she has a friend that puts in cornrows so they know people. I bet they always at the cookout. I bet they be asking Christie to bring the potato salad or the deviled eggs. I bet Christie knows about adobe and sason.

I respect that. I'm mixed and my mom is white. My hair is between a 3c and a 4a. My mom couldnt maintain it and was a tender headed child. She tried. My hair was looonnnggg down to my butt. But I ended up getting lice from the city pool and she shaved it cuz she couldnt get the tiny comb through it. I was 8. When it started growing back is when I started getting relaxers. Then came the coloring. And on and on. As I got older I still didnt know what to do with my hair. I ended up going to beauty school to learn how to do hair because I can do other people hair but I wanted to learn about my own. Unfortunately they disnt teach too much in African American hair because there wasnt in high demand in my area...it made me so sad. But I continued to learn. It is my passion. a year ago I shaved my head to get a fresh start So I am 100% natural and loving my curls everyday!!! I applaud her for learning and loving and caring for her daughter and her hair. Not just the mom's video, but your reaction, has given me so much hope. I know one day I want to adopt. I've no idea who will need my help when that day comes but I was so worried that if I reached out to help a child that I'd mess up and people would hate me for it and I'd just be making their life worse instead of better. But knowing there's so much help and support out there has really boosted my confidence.

Any child will be lucky to have you as a parent. As parent all we can do is our best. As a former social worker there are many resources for parents whether you’re a foster, adoptive or biological parent. Much luck and success to you on your journey ❤️❤️❤️-Ashley

I think she says somewhere they fostered like almost 40 kids. It's amazing and so inspiring as someone who's had 2 miscarriages and I'm not getting younger and I love kids... It's really heartwarming that they could help so many families!

I've seen a few of these how to videos lately for 4a/b/c hair (just to learn - not out of need {yet?}) and my first take is to be grateful for my simple hair. My second is to be amazed at how much work it takes for natural hair, and the commitment it is. No wonder people with natural 4 hair take such pride in it! I only Rarely have I seen 4 hair that was not well maintained, and it just ups the respect level to beyond a 10 for anyone going to this much effort. I also like your review of her efforts - definitely a Lady and a Gent. Bravo and Kudos!

We all need to be open-minded :) I love Christy so much, and loved watching you both react to it. I felt all defensive like DONT YOU DARE COME FOR CHRISTY!! And then before you even started watching I was like, HEY don't be so pessimistic before you watch!! Then I watched your whole video ♡ I shouldn't have expected the worst in the same way I didn't want you two to expect the worst with her. Stay open-minded and spread love ♡ Great video guys!!!

Christy does an amazing job with both her daughters hair. And a big shout out to her husband who did a wonderful job cutting their son’s hair.

Christy is definitely a youtuber who needs more views and subscribers than she has. Someone who researches and is willing to learn new things for her kids, and it’s really inspiring. We can all learn a little something about each other from Christy. We all have our differences, but love, happiness, confidence, and respect is what we all have a common need for.

I believe the two "white" daughters are actually hapas (white and asian)

@@Rykuii thank u for correcting that. Its important to the mixed population. People love to strip us of one or two of our cultures and blanket us with one race. Very unfair to us.

Good job mama. Very good job. The love and care put into the hair says alot. So good to see you being loving and taking care of your daugthers hair. This is the kind of videos that the media wont play sadly. There are many people like this in the world and it should be shown more.

I love that Mom and every mom who has a child of a different race who educates themself on their child's hair, race, history, culture, language, etc. That's unconditional love. I love how she said bonding time because my mom and I were just talking about how much I loved when she would do my hair as a little girl and just talk and laugh. Moms are LIFE!

That close cropped matty headed kid with a white mom who had no clue was me. Granted there weren't as many resources for natural hair care 30 years ago in small all-white communities, and she really did mean well. But it was such a relief when my foster sister who KNEW came to the family & taught me what I needed to know to finally take care of my own hair (& grow it out for the first time!❤)

I appreciate this video. I've never had kids, but I was blessed to meet an amazing woman with two kids (ages 6 and 11) and this has motivated me to do better with learning how to maintain my children's hair. I have locs and that's all I know; to just let it grow lol. I know my kids would appreciate the bonding experience and I look forward to that.

People who foster kids from a different culture ( black, white, brown) and really care for children will educate themselves on their culture to help them grow and be nurtured. Not everyone makes a video, glad she did opens a lot of people's eyes.

Gosh this is sending me back to when I had STRONG neck muscles from my mom doing my hair. When I got old enough for a relaxer around middle school my tender head had to GO, because my grandma told me not to give her beauty stylest a hard time, and you have to listen to grandma! Christy did such a great job!
