Early Pet Shop Boys music was surprisingly thuggish and sneering despite how cute and innocent they looked.

It’s hard to go wrong with Pet Shop Boys. There are so many amazing songs from this duo. I’m going to see them tonight actually (10.07.22) at Hollywood Bowl along with another legendary band (my all time fave) New Order. Stoked!!

Neil Tennant was born in Preston hospital in North Shields Tyne and wear pretty much where I spent my entire childhood tho I live in Manchester now. One of my best friends at school was Neil's nephew, small world. Such a brilliant band 40 plus years of hit after hit after hit , even their b sides are so good they had to release albums of those. Great reaction Ty and dad keep pet shop boys coming! I'd love you to react to i want a lover or Chris lowe singing on paninaro!

I haven't heard this since I listened to the 'tape' in the mid 80s. Although I'd heard at least one or two songs at that point (probably 'West End Girls' and ' Love Comes Quickly') this was a very contemporary sounding song of its time. As a 12 year old, I'd have been convinced this was good enough to be a single. The production on this record was amazing.

I had the "tape" also, only got stuck in my car stereo once so had to re-roll the tape back into the case, ha 😎 I'm sure that happened to you as well back in the day

"Please" was the first CD album I've ever possesed, back then in the 80s. PSB are underrated until today, but with this one, along with Paninaro, Violence and Later tonight, they've deserved their place in the Olymp of music.

It’s funny, you mention deeper cuts at the end of your video. That’s why they’re one of my top three bands of all time, because they consistently had great albums with great deep cuts. I’d rarely found a track I would skip in their first 10 albums or so.

I would really like to know the actual meaning of this song. the inspiration behind it...Their lyrics are always full of cultural or political references...
@thomasinamcnaughton70202 жыл бұрын
I always thought it was quite literal: two (people) divided by zero: literally nothing will break them up/come between them. "Someone spread a rumour/let's not go home/let's run away." Using the old Speak and Spell machine as a sample (through the old analogue Emulator synth) throughout the track.
@davidpearson67852 жыл бұрын
The story of the song is the idea of two people not being separated by anything. Says Neil, "in the song, maybe there's trouble at home, so the two people are going to run away. In this instance, to New York. The 'when the postman calls…' part of the song comes from the way, when I was a teenager, people were always having pregnancy scares, most of them totally manufactured, I think, for the sheer value of the drama. The suggestion is that one of them is pregnant...you know that there's no way the people in the song are really going to end up in New York."
