This scene is very symbolic to the fact that how much of a broken character Kratos is , you can just feel his pain and it’s very obvious that he was almost about to cry.

Kratos suffered his whole life all that anger from god of war 3 was a byproduct of that suffering. Know after his vengeance he’s finally feeling all that pain and loneliness. Just how miserable his life was and he probably regretted now opening up to his wife more but he’s trying to be better for his son. He got another chance. Can’t believe the creator of this character said he gotten soft. You can’t be vengeance went you destroy everything that’s close to you sooner or later you conscience will get to you.

This moment really highlights how broken he feels inside, and how much he misses Faye. He carries the loss of Lysandra and Calliope, but also his actions in Greece, the death of Pandora and so many others. He especially is broken by his grief over losing Faye, especially since he really hasn’t had the opportunity to properly mourn her passing. After her funeral he had to battle Magni, Modi, and Baldur while trying to get to Jotunheim. She was such an important part of his life that losing her was like losing a part of himself.
