I think the toys probably called this the Hour of Joy because this was the day the prototype orcastrated the mass murder and caused all of the toys to go on a killing spree, and in the toys eyes, this was the hour of "joy" because they got the chance to get revenge on all of the humans that have tortured and experimented on them. As of what happened to the kids that were present in the facility the day that happened, I'm sure the kids were kept in a safe room, under the protection of CatNap or the prototype, knowing that some of the other toys would also kill the kids, but unfortunately the children probably still died afterwards due to starvation. As of how the player survived this, my guess is that they were that one employee that decided to call in sick or skip a day of work the day crap went down. 😅

@@purple_dust07 From what we know, the player is a human who used to work at Playtime Co. My guess is that they probably quit their job, but then felt guilty about what they did there, judging by what was said in the tape at the start of chapter 3 before the player was chased by a nightmarish hallucination of Huggy Wuggy. Maybe the player had some kind of part in the experiments the company was doing on the humans now turned toys. The player went back to the abandoned facility for some answers and to figure out what happened to their coworkers. They probably didn't see what happened on the news because the toys killed literally ALL of the adults and dragged their corpses down to eat and to hide the evidence and make it look like everyone in the factory disappeared mysteriously. Anybody who tried going inside the facility to investigate was probably also killed, until the player arrived and started navigating through the depths of the factory.

Quick lore rundown: Playtime co ran experiments on orphans trying to unlock immortality and make living toys to sell. The Hour of Joy was the codeword created by the first living "toy" called the Prototype to let all the living toys know when to rise up and kill their oppressors. They spent HOURS hunting down each and every adult in the entire facility, even the ones who knew nothing about the experiments. We don't know what happened to the kids, just that they apparently weren't harmed since the toys WERE children and knew all the human kids. The employees managed to put the facility in lockdown, however, trapping the toys in building. Since they were still partly organic they needed to eat but no new food delivers were being made, obviously, so they spent the next decade eating the corpses, first, and then each other.

I could be wrong and it only felt like a long time to her, tho.

This just made us really curious of how the player survived, it must've been firing or quitting. Also, the fact all of them dies including innocent people, said by Poppy, means this facility has so many layers to the darker ones (just expected, as we explore the chapters). What's reasonable to think is, many employees probably never actually knew about these experiments or the existing beasts they created. I can only use a few info to prove my point: First, obviously Poppy statement, how didn't matter to the creatures who was innocent or guilty, they simply started a genocide. Of course we don't know yet if she's lying (which I believe it wouldn't make sense), but she's a great witness of what used to happen inside there and probably knew not everyone had a clear idea of how much of accomplices they've become. Second and last one is Jack (or Marcus)'s tape, where he claims he saw a giant monster walking through the corridor, something he never saw before, his own boss declines his allegations saying they only produce toys, which again, I can only assume he was hiding the truth from a simple employee or others like him were never presented to these experiments, thinking they work on an ordinary toy factory.

There was also an employee called Rowan Stoll who was trying to release documents about all the things Playtime Co. were doing. He was an IT guy and had no idea about the horrific experiments being performed in the bowels of the facility. At first he was trying to find out if someone had placed cameras in the toys to create surveillance devices or "nanny cams" as he calls them, to observe the children's behaviour's. But he soon was told to stop digging or he'd be "fired". Rowan kept going. He found out exactly what the scientists and the various departments were doing to the children and was going to release everything he'd found to the public. Naturally, those that didn't want that info getting out were not pleased, and set Rowan up to be killed by the toy Boxy Boo.

Even though the vhs tape is disturbing, something feels off about the killed employees. The bodies are scattered a bit too… evenly. Because if you see, in make a friend station, there is no reason for people to be crowded in the corners of the place. Usually employees stay close to machinery or any other operating equipment and labour is pretty less required for heavy machinery. My theory is that the bodies were actually dragged by the experiments alone as there is only one exit in each of the places. These places were the factories storage grounds and the experiments can replenish their appetite by taking whatever’s left of them.

I don't think they mean "The hour of joy" as in, it took place in only the span of an hour. That's more of an expression to suggest that it started at a certain time, kind of like how "the eleventh hour" can mean at last minute, or "rush hour." "The Hour of Joy" feels more like a symbolic thing, where the Prototype triggered something at a specific time, that made the factory lock down.

"The Hour Of Joy" the way they call it or the toy call it really dark, I presume the exit are close by "The Prototype" so they either go deeper in to the facility or die at the exit door and those who went deeper or find way to survive definitely not gonna survive for long because not just the giant toy creature but the little as well. There are no way of escape, no way of survive to tell the tale, no way to hide, no where to run, innocent or not they do not leave anyone alive except our protagonist by sheer luck or plot don't go to work that day. This is where their twisted creation backfired, karma has been serve to the wicked or to the victim, this is "The Hour Of Massacre" to the employee and "The Hour Of Joy" to the toy.

It was a slave rebellion where the toys (who were treated no better than animals) let all that rage loose and took it out on their oppressors whether they were directly involved or not. I have a neat little theory about the part of the game where the player is tripping on red smoke and having all those strange visions. When we see the Prototype’s hand in this weird nightmare, the accompanying sounds are alarms blaring and a bunch of people screaming. I believe what we’re hearing in that sequence is none other than The Hour of Joy itself. We’re hearing the sounds of all the screaming and chaos while the toys were going on a rampage unaliving everyone.

Ms. Delight and the other teachers were locked up by CatNap. Eventually they went hungry. Ms. Delight made a weapon out of pens and pencils that she named Barb to protect herself from her sisters who were becoming cannibalistic due to starvation. Eventually she had to eat her sisters to survive. CatNap unlocked the door after she was the only left. You can see Barb as the picture in the VHS tape where Ms. Delight is speaking, it's the one where at the end of the tape she says CatNap told her she couldn't see the children and she said that that was because she probably would have killed them all (cue maniacal laughter). All the creatures/monsters besides CatNap fear the Prototype. As Mommy is dying you can hear say something like "You will make me apart of HIM!" which also basically confirms (for me at least) that the Prototype adds on the bodies of the dead toys.

Even though the VHS has, well, VHS quality it’s still easy to see Huggy’s eyes when he looks at the other person next to him. It’s freaky. Human eyes show the whites so we can see where people are looking. Just another confirmation that despite being monsters they’re humans underneath.

You really gotta think about this moment in the context of all the areas of the game... ●the gamestation ●the play pin where you had to fight off all those critters coming at you ●the classrooms ●train station ●the area where all the bunk beds where... All these places had employees, or children within the place...innocence....ppl unaware of anything happening or going on....until that ONE DAY...that ONE HOUR.....where all of a sudden these toys just randomly started attacking and killing others..and ppl having no idea why...the few that survived...that hid...were stuck in a nightmare situation.... all the monster toys being terrible in their own way...and the thing is nobody survived...which means most of them were killed by a monster toy; Imagine the terror of randomly seeing a teacher down the hallway, everytime you turn around, shes inching closer and closer....or trying to find an escape, walking into a random room with a giant box....or trying to hid only to be found by a critter.....or the few ppl that got found and caught by mommy longlegs.... at least with huggy wuggie you're just caught and eaten, head first...but holy sh*+

Some toys like Poppy can talk really good so maybe they are trying to get people from the outside to stay away from the factory or there are some survivors left who are still doing experiments and dont want anyone else to interfere

Honestly this is a ends that justify the means situation imo. It's unfortunate that innocents had to be caught in the crosshairs, but so much of the company was pure evil and needed to go. The children/toys needed to be freed. The hour of joy was a necessary evil.

I do want to make a couple assumptions for one I’m honestly quite surprised there’s no cameras that show security interference fighting back against the monsters though know they’ll be overpowered no matter what I’m surprised neither of them were caught on camera also given how many people died all over the place this has to take place in the middle of the day I’m not sure what company would have this many workers in the middle of the night this would also mean civilians were involved too when poppy said “the guilty the innocent don’t matter” maybe she’s referring all the civilians visiting the place (given the first video of the hour of joy shows people wondering in the lobby) and/or there were some employees given that are actually nice to them and I wonder the moment when the attack started they must have immediately lockdown the entire facility to prevent the monsters from escaping though given if some managed to escape they’re probably either denied by authorities or as part of the cover up of what really to the facility to “silence” them off to prevent any information spreading if this would been in the night with little to no people it would probably be an easy cover up but given if it’s in the day time while I would imagine despite they managed to get away with it it would be long and hard to cover given how many people were wondering what happen to their love ones inside.
