I love this cover, I find it far more compelling when PTX perform it. So, funnily enough I had been reading up on this subject a couple of weeks ago, after someone had asked in a reactor's comment about the legalities of PTX releasing covers of songs. From a licensing standpoint you can't stop someone if they want to release/sell copies of a cover of your song: the law allows anyone to buy the necessary licences to sell a certain number of copies (it has to fulfill specific requirements for being a true cover, though), and then you have to inform the copyright owner of your intent to cover it, but you don't require their permission...you just need to let them know. So, either PTX respected their wishes (assuming they expressed that they didn't want them to release it), or they were only ever intending to do a couch version & the live performances of it. The laws and licensing requirements are different for each circumstance: whether it's commercially releasing/selling records, putting it on YT, streaming it on Spotify etc, or performing it live in concerts etc. (Music videos add a whole other complexity). There are companies specifically set up to help with the licensing situations. Ixm not surprised someone has monetised that process, because I imagine it could easily get confusing over which license you need for what, but for bands like PTX, I would expect they would have someone dealing with all that for them. With the couch version they recorded and posted on YT, which I believe they then took down (there's a version out there still on a random person's channel...because nothing is ever permanently deleted 😉), due to it being on YT, if the copyright owner puts a claim on it then they can either request the monetisation or have YT strike it for infringement. Technically, it wouldn't have been infringing provided they checked the right box when uploading, so they could have fought it if they wanted. But, either they didn't want to risk the copyright strike or, again they respected TøP's wishes and took it down. I suspect it would more likely be the latter; they just seem like the kind of people who, if anyone ever objected to them covering something, they would respect that. I guess it's also worth noting that the YT claim system is an absolute mess, so they may just have felt the hassle wasn't worth it and took it down. When it comes to TøP...on the one hand I can understand wanting to protect your inellectual property and have control of your song etc, but on the other when you create something you have to know there are going to be people who will want to cover it...take it as the compliment that it is that you wrote a good song. If it were a personal song (for example, about a loved one, or something you went through personally) I could understand reaching out and saying "Hey dude, can you please not cover this one." But, otherwise, it ultimately just ends up coming across as afraid of them doing it better than you (obviously a legitimate concern, because I've not come across a PTX cover yet where they haven't improved on the original). 🤷 just my own opinion.

Thank you so much for reacting to this one, I adore their version of it. Scott going off with the rap, proving he can do it too...and the rapid fire was impressive, especially considering his habit of forgetting word, it's not the kind of thing you can read as you go lol. And, as you point out, Kirstie coming in was like a drink of cool water; especially balanced with the Mitch & Scott's parts. And KO and Avi killing it as always. I have three different versions of this on my paylost so far though, they're all superb.
