Saw this in Melbourne Australia and l cant tell you how many times l went from a smile to tears throughout this spectacular. John gives you all the emotions. He is the ultimate entertainer.

I remember watching tv, married with 3 children and TV Ad for You’re The Voice album came on, my first thought, gee that’s good, bet that’s going to be a hit. So before that Doc, I was interested at all. Saw a few concerts, best was in small venue in Palais in Melbourne, finally you could see wherever you sat. I took binoculars just in case, could see ever drop of perspiration on his face lol. Didn’t see Main Event. Got the Tape or were CDs in then lol? Absolutely Loved it. Can’t remember others I went with girlfriend, we left hubbies at home lol.

In my opinion this was the best cast of JCS ever - saw this live and they were all outstanding as always.... Farnsey can literally sing like that for over 3hrs and still sound like he's just started.... Thanks guys - not always easy to react to a track from a show you haven't seen before. Always a pleasure spending time with you two !!

This is the performance - brilliant stuff. You might get a kick out of the 1970s movie version of this rock opera, it starred some of the big rock names of the era. It may even have been the first rock opera. I love your content and reactions 👏👏👏❤️🎶🎶

John is such a versatile performer, not only does he kill at concerts; he is just at home doing stage shows. John had lead roles, not only in Jesus Christ Superstar the musical in 1992; but also in Charlie Girl in 1971, and Pippin in 1974. Then there was tv, he starred in his own tv series and specials; It's Magic with Colleen Hewett, Bobby Dazzler and Farnham and Byrne variety show with Debbie Byrne, plus guest appearances on The Don Lane Show, Countdown(music tv show) and Hey Hey It's Saturday(tv variety show).

I've done the research. I watched every other performance of Gethsemane I could find and there is not one to compare with John's. His vocal range, emotional expression and presence outdoes all others.

This was the final performance from 'Jesus Christ superstar' and John played the role of Jesus. this song is about Jesus going to pray in Gethsemane (a garden) with his Apostles (followers) but they all fell asleep...Then he has this conversation with God and for the first time we see and hear his agony with the knowledge He will be crucified. It's also called in Christian terms "The Agony in the Garden" John just inspires us all with this emotional performance. So thrilled you've reacted to this.

Guys this is the correct link and thank you so much! Yes many say it’s one of his best vocal performances as he goes higher here and sustains it longer than in any other of his songs…if you look on KZbin there’s a video that compares John Legend (who played Jesus in the US production) to John Farnham- the audio is absolute crap so don’t react to it but check it out yourselves maybe. Our boy wins hands down!! Not sure why it cuts off so quickly but that is the end of this song.

Our John definately sings John Legend under the table. No contest. And most other people who have performed in the same role. It really annoys me the "The world" doesn't even think of Aussie performers when comparing singers.

You played the right version as far as I'm concerned. That's from the final night in Sydney. Yes you are seeing a different view of Farnsey. This is a theatrical performance. And yes that was the end of Gethsemane. You could do worse than checking out the entire production - some great Aussie talent on show; Farnham, Kate Ceberano, Jon Stevens, Angry Anderson, Russell Morris,... . The cast did a number from the show on a popular Aussie variety show (Hey Hey It's Saturday) - "Everything's Alright"(kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4urm4t-lrFgps0). Video quality is pretty crap but worth a look. Don't get frightened by the colourful ostrich at the end! Great reaction as always. Thanks guys.

Yeah this version is much better the other one has to much background noise. John is incredible in this performance one of his very best. No one can play the part like Farnsey does his vocals are phenomenal

John Farnham has never had a single lesson. John Farnham has perfect pitch. A few years ago the musicians and singers of Australia voted for the best Australian singer of all time and John Farnham was voted No. 1 and Anthony Warlow came in somewhere around No. 40. To my great dismay I was unable to attend this production of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR , having to settle for the TV clips John for his part was as always magnificent but the whole cast was made up of Aussie headline acts and is really worth checking out .pleased consider reacting to some previous requests for John's performances of PLAYING TO WIN , COOL CHANGE and LONG WAY TO THE TOP ,especially the latter with the Melbourne Symphony orchestra he genuinely gos off , every band member and backup singer is featured and the audience which i was lucky enough to be a part of went nuts , honestly it was the best performance in the best concert that I've had the privilege to attend , and believe me I've attended a shitload of concerts .

John Farnham played a good Jesus in 1992 Australian Cast of Jesus Christ Superstar . This song Gethsemane wasn’t the single Everything Is Alright with Kate Ceberano featuring John Farnham and Jon Stevens was a hit single in Australia. I Don’t Known How To Love Him - Kate Ceberano was a minor hit as well the title song Superstar - Jon Stevens Even all the cast was exceptional great in JCS Jon Stevens who played Judas stole the show . You have to check Jon Stevens band Noiseworks

This is the one musical theatre role that many great singers would kill to be able to perform in. The lead role of Jesus is the most difficult to sing as it ranges from F2 to G5. There is only one guy in the world who sings it better imo. Unfortunately being from Australia, John doesn't crack a mention in world wide poles...but he is certainly up there...and proves once again that he can literally sing anything Background. Musical . John is playing Jesus. This is the scene in the garden of Gesthemane where he is asking God why does he have to die. Very moving scene. This is the hit single from the show. You know how much I love Farnie (Angie yes he did kiss my cheek aeons ago) but I have to tell you of the first lead singer of Superstar in Australia Jon English. He was an amazing singer and his musicals where the only ones to really get to me; Superstar and Rasputin. Jesus Christ Superstar and John is of course Jesus. I love this but there is someone else in this that I believe has payed the same role. He is or was a great singer too. Check out Jon English. He had hits on and off the stage. He is worth checking out and gone too soon.
