I lost my wife in 2020 during the covid epidemic. Season 2 has an episode called, "The Guru", that goes into chakras. Despite the eastern philosophy, they had some elements of dealing with grief that i and my son learned about in therapy. The depth of the show cannot be understated. It truly is a Masterpiece of storytelling.

This series is legitimately incredible, way better than any nominally "for kids" show has a right to be. Things get so rich and deep in terms of character development, especially in the second half of the show; you have so much good stuff to look forward to!

Not to mention that without Avatar we wouldn't have a lot of the modern Young Adult series in animation. The Owl House, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, all take some degree of influence from this show.

I'm a therapist who watched this show when it aired, even though I was an adult. This show is AMAZING and I often reference this show in session. I can't give concrete examples without spoilers. Let's just say there's a character that appears in book 2 who is amazing disability representation and is a fan favorite for a reason. But I love the sibling dynamic of the core cast.

shocked i caught this reaction at only episode 1. will be following along in ur journey, as a therapist i think u will be able to glean a lot from this show and its extremely well fleshed out characters. also, i showed this show to my 82 year old grandmother and she loved it so much we binged the whole show in 2 weeks. age is not an issue for sure, this show can be enjoyed by anyone

I’m really looking forward to seeing your reactions to this series. It really is one of the best. Your analysis of the characters so far is very much on point. Your description of Aang as possessing great power, but also just being a kid is very accurate and important to keep in mind throughout the series. The dichotomy between those two facts is a central theme of the show, in my opinion. Just for reference, in case you were curious, here are the ages of the younger characters we’ve met so far: Aang, as they’ve told us, is biologically 12 (chronologically 112). Katara is 14, Sokka is 15, and Prince Zuko is 16. All the characters in this series have room to grow and evolve and the great storytelling allows them to do that in a way that feels realistic, while being entertaining and compelling to watch. Great first reaction. I can’t wait to see more.

This was a great choice. There's so much to psychoanalyze in this show. Even themes touched upon on even the first episode include: Children of war, genocide, putting unreasonable responsibility on a child's shoulders, mysogony. The list goes on. The writers of this show worked very hard to make fully realized characters. It is not surprising that a wide variety of people relate to or see themselves in one of the main cast. It has helped many people work through their own issues.

no way??? i love avatar! a very deep show, with great characters. this was the og. it's amazing that even the first episode begins to tackle a heavy topic like war, and the consequences it has on communities. it's sad to see their tribe, only the women and children left, no one there to protect them. and you can already start to piece together maybe that's why sokka acts like that, if he's the oldest boy in their tribe right now.

This is ironically the perfect series for a therapist to react to every character especially Zuko and Azula's arcs, Zuko's development is legendary in terms of any character ever written. Aside from that, I'm just pumped UR reacting NEVER thought I would see this day😆 One of the few series with arguably no filler episodes everything contributes and comes back at the end. When this came out, my wife and I watched it even though the kids were off doing their own thing. I don't recall what drew us to it, but we loved it. The first few episodes were aimed at a younger audience but they adjusted over the first season to match the audience they had. Even in the beginning, the fact is that it was full of good lessons, and it didn't just spoon feed it to the audience. Some issues are addressed quickly, but many are explored over a lot of episodes. This might well have been one of the best kids' shows I have ever seen, but it is also an enjoyable show even for adults [and in my case, I not only have my kids, but grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and I still find this show to be great.] By the end of the full series you will be amazed at the issues it has addressed and how well it has done it.

Three things that attracted me to the show, were first that they drew so much from eastern mysticism for much of the world building, each nation is adapted from a unique real life culture, Air Nomads draw from Tibetan Monks, the Water Tribes from Inuit, the Earth Kingdom on China, and the Fire Nation resembles Feudal Japan. The third thing was each of the bending movements are based upon a different and unique real life Kung Fu. Fire-bending uses Shao Lin, with its long kicks and circular blocks, Earth-bending has the low stances and movements of the Hungar or animal forms, Water-bending flows, so it's movements are derived from the flowing movements of Tai Chi, and Air-bending has the circular movements of the Ba Gua, or circle-walking. The show has an actual Kung Fu Sifu who coordinates the movements. After you get going into the Second Season, you should look for a group of shorts under the general title "Avatar: Creating the Legend" for some behind the scenes look at how it was put together, interviews with the creators and voice artists, but also there is one for each element showing how the movements are choreographed.

I still believe, to this day, that Avatar the Last Airbender is the BEST show of all times. It’s a show full of martial arts, good animation, well-paced story, character development, humor and epic. It’s also full of very deep themes of betrayal, honor, Rage, acceptance and the brutal truth of murder and genocide and how to deal with massiv loss. These themes are also handled exceptionally well, with no voice-over or any explaining from offside, but realizing it through the show and its characters. If you are 8 or 80 y.o. you will still learn and respect the lessons the show includes.

I sincerely hope you continue watching and analyzing the series. Personally, I think it's one of the best and most well-made series out there. The creators delve into mature themes without making it too heavy, striking a balance that entertains both children and adults. I'd love to see more of your insights about it. Although I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place for it, I would like your insight and analysis of Johnny Silverhand and his songs under the band name Samurai from the game Cyberpunk 2077. I suggest taking a look at his fandom wiki page, which could provide valuable insight into the character. Also, there is a playlist of his songs on the KZbin channel of the game. Lastly, I would like to apologize for the lengthy read-after all, this is supposed to be a comment, not an essay!
