AspenTech channel has brought another exciting video for you, in which we will discuss about reactor simulation in Aspen HYSYS. 1st example is focused on combustion of methane to produce water and carbon dioxide, for which conversion reactor is used. Please do watch, like, and share the video, and subscribe the channel. Thanks for your love and support. Stay Tuned.
1. Objective:
a) Methane combustion in Aspen HYSYS
b) Use of Conversion Reactor
2. Problem Statement:
a) Fuel i.e., Methane at 25 °C, and 4 bar is fed to the conversion reactor at 1.013 bar (after reducing its pressure using valve).
b) Air at 25 °C, and 1.013 bar is fed to the conversion reactor. Assume 10% excess air in the feed.
c) Estimate the % composition of the product stream.
d) Estimate the energy available for burning of fuel.
3. Reaction:
CH4 + 2 O2 = CO2 + 2 H2O
4. Mole Balance:
1 mole of CH4 requires 2 moles of O2. In 1 mole of air, 0.2 moles of O2 are present i.e., for 2 moles of O2, we require 10 moles of air. Since, excess air is 10%, so total amount of air required is 11 kgmole/h for the combustion of 1 kgmole/h of fuel.
