Theory. Darth maul is the one who rescued Grogu. He was on a ship with asoka when the order 66 was given. There was at least a 12 hour period where maul was free from Asoka and the time that Vader started the attack on the temple. Maul would have wanted to have a Apprentice and would have wanted one very strong in the force and also one who was young enough he could train his way, The bandits who had possession of the baby would have been the exact same kind of underground pirate scum that maul would have had sence he was for at least a while ruling the underworld. With the fear he would have enstilled in the pirates and the funds he would have had access to they would have protected and kept the baby safe forever out of fear of what maul would do to them if they failed. And they would not of know that maul was killed by Obi-Wan. Maul was the perfect candidate to give the baby his dark memories and asoka would have felt it in the baby that maul had interacted with him. Maul had Motive Means Opportunity Maul needed a trainable and powerful Apprentice who was young enough to manipulate. This explains why the underworld had possession of him. He also escaped in a ship that would have given him direct access to coruscant and the temple. And with all the disturbances in the force he could have gone undetected Thoughts?

Grogu had many masters. I assume it was one of them that got him out of the temple. I reckon it’ll be someone we haven’t met or who’s had little screen time, like Jocasta Nu or a temple guard. Or, it could’ve been a droid. Perhaps Grogu had a nurse droid before IG-11.

Since maul is my favourite character from tcw I hope this will come true. Also he lost control of the underworld and somehow ended up on malachor so it makes sense that grogu wouldn’t be with him. Honestly there’s still so much of mauls story that hasn’t been covered.

I like the theory, but there would be too much backlash against the idea of Maul still being alive (even though we all know he is in canon). His short appearance in Solo was confusing to a lot of people, but since most people didn't understand the timeline, they didn't dwell on it. Also, since Maul is definitely dead in the Mandalorian timeline, what would be the point of adding that in there if it can't lead to anything. More than likely it'll be a character we'll see again.

At one point Slave 1 was in Hondo the pirate lockup and they even flew off in it during end of clone wars last season. Whats interesting is during The Mandolorian Boba Fett turns up in it, pity we didnt get to see him visit Hondo to retrieve is ship or kill him to get it back, but its still my favourite craft out of all Star Wars fleet.

Boba was teased at the end of a previous episode. The "I'm a simple man making my way through the universe" line was said by boba's father jango to obi wan, so Boba's line was a referance to that.
