얼음들 "eol um deul" = ice 어른들 "eo reun deul" = adults For this reason, the lyric in 'Melted' - "why is ice so cold?" can be easily misheard as "why are adults so cold?" This is well intended by the singer.

Also for the lyrics to melted, the word "ices" is similar to the word "adults" in Korean. So when they say "why are the ices so cold, if the ices melt the world will become warmer" it sounds like "why are adults so cold, if they melt the world will become warmer"💕
@andre-cmyk7 жыл бұрын
The difference in the sound of these word is m/n, so it is really really similar. I like the fact that there are many words for adults, but they used the right one for wordplay. if you want han/rom: ice 얼음 (eoreum) adult 어른 (eoreun)
@spress157 жыл бұрын
Wow! Thank you for that great explanation. 💜 💜 💜
@ouijaboar7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I was surprised this wasn't pointed out when the lyric translation was given. Like English, "ice" is not typically pluralized in Korean, so when they say "why are ices (얼음들) so cold", it sounds awkward but if you hear instead "why are grown-ups (어른들) so cold", it makes much more sense.

One more. "Ices" has same sound with "adults" in korean word. Ices - eol-eumdeul (얼음들) Adults - eoleundeul (어른들) So that mean 'If adults melt(kind), world will be more warm.'. This is my idea, but I don't know if it's true.^오^

melted also includes really smart word play in Korean, the word for ice is '어름들' which sounds almost identical to the word for adults '어른들' and in Korean it can sound like "why are adults so cold" and it emphasises the message in the video and adds even more depth, Chanhyuk is so clever when it comes to all their songs
@surferwanderer7 жыл бұрын
my fave thing abt this song is the wordplay for the title. the title is "eoreumdeul (얼음들)" which means "the frozen ones", it's a wordplay to "eoreundeul (어른들)" which means "adult". so when they say "they", they probably mean adults

I wish you'd explained the lyrics to Melted better to them - the wordplay on 'ice' and 'adults' because the two words sound so so similar that when they're sing about ice being cold, it sounds like they're saying adults are cold. I imagine it would've blown the panel away, esp since the response was that it was poetic.

I have a very sincere request for the Classical Vocalists to react to Sohyang (specifically what she sang for King of Masked Singer (Mona Lisa and Home) but her songs on I Am a Singer and Immortal Song are also very amazing (Arirang Alone, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Fate, Lean On Me, and literally everything else, but those are my favorites)). I'm sure it's annoying when people request songs when you have such a busy schedule but she recently lost a six win streak on the show (the second highest) and I'm very emotional rn and I really wanted the reactors and the rest of the viewers to hear her and her stunning talent. She's regarded one of the best singers in Korea and her vocal range spans like three octaves. Her technique and high notes are breathtaking and I just really love her and want to show off her talent to the world and blow everyone away with how great she is. Sorry for such a long request/rant. I'm just v proud of her and upset at her loss. Also, fun facts: she used to be a gospel singer, sang the Korean dub of Moana, was the first Korean artist to sing the American national anthem, has never lived abroad but learned English from singing pop songs and watching TV shows and movies, and beat cervical cancer because she's a badass. Aside from this, I love your channel and all the reactors and I wish you and this channel great success! Thank you for your videos~

For those who don't know AKMU. They are siblings who were sort of raised in Mongolia because their parents were doing missionary work. As they grew older they saw that school in general was too expensive. So they could only dream to follow music. In Melted the brother wrote most of the lyrics, telling his sister to look towards the future because the past will deteriorate with time.

I've been waiting forever for a Melted reaction but funnily enough I forgot how it was my fav kpop song ever until How People Move. Still, both of them are great for their moods. I didn't know about the wordplay about ice and adults and it just gave a whole new meaning it. Imma go listen to it now and cry.

I remember I was so impressed by "Melted" when AKMU's first album came out. I loved all their songs from the K-Pop Star days but I thought this song showed a lot of growth for Chanhyuk as a songwriter. It's such a great song.

Just to point the main thing about the song melted, Ice and Adults sounds the very similar in Korean, so the song is about Adults(=Ice) being really cold. I've been literally refreshing your channel because I was like waiting for this for so long, I even have an alarm on.

One thing I would NEVER miss when hearing korean songs for the first time is checking out the meaning and the lyrics, hanggul really amazes me at how you can play with it and insert hidden meaning or parallels, it's really amazing

What i love the most about this channels reactions to AKMU is their appreciation and acknowledgment for Chanhyuks voice. I feel like bc Suhyuns so talented, chanhyuk gets overshadowed but all these people are so in awe by him and i love it!

"Melted" is such an emotional song T^T And the fact that the korean title of this song means "Ice"(얼음) and it is similar to "Grown-ups"(얼은) in korean.
