Nirvana changed the face of the music industry OVERNIGHT with this song! It went stratospheric and defined a new genre - 'grunge'. I adored them and like everyone else, I was devastated when singer/songwriter/lead guitarist, Kurt Cobain took his own life in 1994 at the peak of their fame. Their whole MTV unplugged set was, and still is, legendary. Kurt died a few months later aged just 27yrs - 'The 27 Club'. You have to put this in context. The industry was hooked on hair bands and rock music like GnR and Motley Crue and BAM! This comes out. A completely different sound.

Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in chains, etc ...I am from Serbia 🇷🇸, and back then in 1990.'s that was for my generation here smell of "teen spirit" freedom.🤔😊 Anyway, i love your reaction.❤❤❤

Kurt Cobain hated playing this song so many times. They had a lot of other good songs. I love Nirvana and Kurt Cobain. I miss him. Kurt wrote this song to leave it up to the interpretation of whomever hears it. People hear it different ways.

Weird Al did a parody of this song called “Smells Like Nirvana” which pokes fun at how no one can understand Nirvana’s singing. Kurt Cobain said that he knew he had made it when Weird Al parodied his song.

I am a huge Nirvana fan and I believe this song is a great song but super overrated. Although nobody knows what the lyrics mean, Kurt said that Nirvana means freedom so I believe that’s what this song means
