@TheBraunMachine2K246 күн бұрын
@@akbarshabazz-jenkins7847 Yeah, oddly enough, he always dies in movies but I think that this one was the biggest shock though, just the way it happens. In those other films, it builds up to it, in R&J & DU, you kinda know he's gonna die tbh. With this one, yes, there's build up but it really leads you to assume that he's gonna take down Sullivan, walk off the hero because of all he went through. He's seen as the only one that can stop Sullivan because he's the only one who knows the truth & now he's got him in the elevator, dead to rights, even Sullivan's voice breaks because he knows he's cooked now. The viewer's like: "Yes! Sullivan's going down for all that shit he did." So when it comes out of nowhere like that, it really catches the audience offguard, much like it does Costigan & Brown in the film. Makes for a very memorable scene & a great reaction to anyone watching it because it's so unexpected.

The departed was inspired by Whiter Bulger, Stephen Flemmi and John Connolly.
@trevorjackson4744Ай бұрын
It was actually a remake of a 2002 Hong Kong film called Infernal Affairs. The Departed has more fluff in it than IA did (notably the stupid ass love triangle), and it doesn't have the iconic Hong Kong cinema influences (like the emphasis on how music conveys the emotions), but the story is practically copy and paste from the original. They even made Costigan have the same background as Yan that wasn't revealed until Infernal Affairs 2
@logicalanswer3529Ай бұрын
@@trevorjackson4744 The movie is literally inspired by Bulgers relationship with Flemmi (French) and Connolly (Sullivan). The majority of his crew in the movie are also based on actual people and the events surrounding the Valhalla.
@trevorjackson4744Ай бұрын
@@logicalanswer3529 I've already told you. Some of the interpretations of the CHARACTERS are based off of real people, but the movie is not. The writing of the story itself has nothing to do with them. So no, it "literally" is not. I would recommend you watch Infernal Affairs. First of all, it's a great movie, just like The Departed. But secondly, I had seen The Departed first, and was very shocked when I watched the original because of how close they kept the remake. Every story beat is straight from Infernal Affairs to the point that the details they did alter are funny how they changed it to make sense to an American audience. Like the envelope with their background information has the two characters arguing over how to write a complex Chinese character, so the American version has a guy misspell "citizens". It's quite funny how that was adapted
@logicalanswer3529Ай бұрын
@@trevorjackson4744 You told me a bunch of nonsense and made yourself look foolish. Congratulations. It would be best if you at least went ant learnt the difference between the word "inspired" and "remake".
@trevorjackson4744Ай бұрын
@@logicalanswer3529 you know, your username is quite ironic in this case. There is nothing logical about your answers. Inspiration is the source of creative ideas, but this story was written in Hong Kong, by people who had no knowledge or care for the American crime world. Then Brad Pitt and Warner Bros bought the rights to remake it in America, chose Scorsese to direct, Monahan as the screenwriter. He did not write the story. He merely adapted it. The characters are copies of the movie Infernal Affairs. Costello is Sam, Sullivan is Lau, and Costigan is Yan. Their plot actions are identical, their choices are identical, and their outcomes are 95% identical. Monahan did not write that. Alan Mak and Felix Chong did. However, the character backgrounds, speech patterns and relationships in The Departed were modeled after Whitey Bulger and his gang. That's it. That is not nonsense, that's fact. What's nonsense is you keep trying to suggest that Monahan was struck with inspiration, wrote a movie based on these famous Boston gangsters, and it just so happened that his very original movie matched up perfectly with this random foreign film that he was told to rewrite. That's ridiculous. The only fool here is you
