Great progress Ed! Like many others have mentioned, even just holding off the temptation to purchase new books is commendable. I myself obviously struggle with that as I seem to have a book haul video almost every month. Also with your financial situation changing, I think everyone will forgive you for altering/eliminating your charity commitment

Thanks, Dan (it is going too slow to my taste). Not buying books for a while simply is a decision, really. The trick is not think back on it and keep on going. Still, I look forward to receiving new books in the mail. I love you book haul videos, partly because you scavenge all the second hand stores.

This sounds like such a great (much) needed challenge for myself, but i have recently discovered a crazy good secondhand books thrift shop and have heard of so many bew series by booktube, so that combo is leading to wonderful bookhauls on the cheap... But the geowing stacks are reninders of how many books i already own that really should be read. Maybe a light challenge in 2025 is exactly what I'll need! Good luck with your progress! You're doing great!

Thanks. We have a saying in Dutch which would translate as 'Tying the cat to the bacon'. In other words, a crazy good secondhand books thrift shop is impossible to pass by as a booklover.

Making great progress! I’m still going slow and steady with my 100 book challenge. I’m up 62 books read now. Hoping to finish before the end of the year.

Thanks! Wow, you're doing the 100-version! Hats off to you. When did you start this? I guess you're a faster reader than I am 😀

You're making great progress! Reading challenges are a different ballgame when you read mainly chunkers like most fantasy books tend to be. Hopefully things pick up professionally and that ship comes to port soon! 😂

I love your KZbin channel and have been a subscriber for months, I hope you find a new publisher to accept your books. I publish my books on Amazon as an Independent Publisher, so I suggest you try it. There are quite a few books on your list that I would also like to read. 👍🤗

Thank you. Perhaps I may try to give my novels a new life in an English translation. Thanks for the Amazon idea.

@@DutchGreyBeard I would have one more small suggestion: you can show your books in your video. I would honestly like to see the books you wrote. You can always ask in the Community if followers are interested in seeing your books.

Would it be presumptuous if I offered to donate to charity for some of those months for you? As always I love your channel and thank you for always being a positive creator even when things are looking difficult. You are a wonderful example of light in the world.

You are so kind! With your words and this offer. For now I believe I can manage, and it’s somehow strange to let another pay for my promise. But I highly appreciate your generous gesture. 🙏🙏

Just managing to resist buying books for a few months is still impressive ! As for the ever growing wishlist, this is the common neverending problem, especillay if you are a fantasy reader since the numbers grow so much more due to being mostly series. My advice would be to avoid buying new longer series from authors you haven't tried yet and focus on what you have now. Since you are pretty new to fantasy, you're still in that phase when you try a bit of everything before finding what is for you or not. Once you get a clearer idea, it will be time to curate your wishlist and cull book series from it that are probably not for you.
@ellyra4124 ай бұрын
Oh and especially, do not hesitate to give up a serie that is not working for you even if it is highly recommended one. There are just too many fantasy out there to waste time on one that you don't like that much.

Thanks for the advice. I bought so many book in my first year as a fantasy reader, that I can cruise easily for the coming years…

@@ellyra412True, but hard. I tend to buy a writer’s complete works when I’m convinced or persuaded by someone’s enthusiasm. It’ pathological I’ afraid 😂

Do you buy secondhand books at all?
@DutchGreyBeard4 ай бұрын
I do! Recently (my last book purchase) a Janny Wurts trilogy. But, to be honest, I usually buy them new, so I can be the first to ravage them...

Nearly half way through! Your wishlist sounds interesting. Are they mostly fantasy? Hope the technical writing picks up soon! I started my mammoth yesterday (still reading 7 others as well 🫣). It's one of the large paperbacks but it weighs about 2 lbs! I can only read while it is propped up on something cause it hurts my neck to hold it up for any length of time. Do you have weight issues with the stormlight ones? Maybe I'm just too old to read chunkers...
@DutchGreyBeard4 ай бұрын
My wishlist is 99% Fantasy/SF. Pillars AND 7 other books!!?? My Stormlight mass paperback weigh about 1.4 lbs each. It not so much the weight as chunk of pages on each side I have keep in check all the time, which strains my hand muscles. I believe there are nice reading stands on the market that might help you out with Follet. And no, one is never too old to read chunkers. But perhaps we're too persistent on reading physical books...
@bjminton26984 ай бұрын
@DutchGreyBeard I'd love to see your wishlist. Is it on Amazon? I do own a Boox that I use for library ebooks, but I suspect that Pillars will take me much longer than 3 weeks to finish. I may have to resort to that before I'm done. Of the 7 other reads, 4 are mysteries, 1 paranormal romance (ick! It's a buddy read...), the Dungeon Crawler one and the newest Deborah Harkness.

@@bjminton2698 Yes, my wish list is on Amazon.nl (www.amazon.nl/hz/wishlist/ls/1PFR7HMZC7VV2?ref_=wl_share) Some titles are on there twice or more, because I cannot decide on the edtion of the book. Good luck juggling all of your reads.
