I do my best to read 50 pages a day. Occassionally on the weekends I can do 100. But setting a goal and then not meeting it causes anxiety and that feeling of being behind, which makes it harder to read. So I try not to worry if I don't meet my daily goal. I've read more in the first two months this year than I've read in some entire years, so anytime I feel like I'm not doing good, I just remind myself how much better I am now than I used to be, when I would go days and weeks and months without picking up a book, despite having all these books I want to read.

Yes! I definitely think there’s a culture in the book tube community that can be very unattainable. Sometimes I think about the future when I go to school again and won’t be able to read as much and get a little anxiety about it, but at the end of the day it really doesn’t matter!

yes i agree, i feel better when i set time based goal for reading, like read 30 minutes or 1 hour a day..i tried these method and still i read much more than just no goal at all

Some booktubers blow my mind with the amount they read every month. Some of these people have jobs and families. They must read super fast. I've thought about starting my own channel since I don't really have anyone in my life to talk about books with. My wife will listen, but she reads very little (as far as fiction goes). But I'm afraid the time it takes to film and edit videos will take away what little time I have to read and will thus be pointless.

I don't set a page number goal but I do try to read every day. Whether that's 5 pages or 400. That goal works better for me as this year is my first year reading consistently.

This reminds me of when you have to read books for school. Like if you didn't have to read it for a class you would probably enjoy it but knowing that you HAVE to finish it within a certain time frame just makes you less interested.
@HaileyDanielle2 жыл бұрын
Omg that’s such a good comparison! Feeling like you HAVE to do something really can lead you to resent it. That’s why I was in a multiple year slump, having to read for school took it out of me😭

Audible credit. I lost 7 of mine. Contacted customer service and said “is that a rule you think people are aware of?!” And they gave them all back to me. My money didn’t expire from their pockets in a year if they didn’t spend it!

You sound exactly like me LOL I'm very type a as well w ocpd that manifests partly as perfectionism & the second I set a specific goal it's very difficult for me to pace myself bc I need to get it done & surpass it as soon as I can otherwise I would feel like I've "failed" even if I haven't. It's exhausting & oftentimes ruin things for myself. So, I've learned to be a bit more vague w things like daily goals, to do lists, etc. We live & we learn!

I couldn't agree more with you...setting up a goal based on page numbers gave me anxiety and tend to stressed me out, reading with time based goal is better for me because no pressure for the amount of pages i should read...maybe you could try someday :)

Aw thank you! I guess my main suggestion is to be yourself and read what YOU want to read, whether it’s hyped or not. I also think thumbnails are huge so try to get your thumbnails looking nice, people don’t click near as much if the thumbnail is low quality or not unique!
